Almost everyone you'll ever explain pumping to has used a playground swingset. Using that analogy when describing getting heavy and light at the right times helps newbies get the concept. Yes, HOW you get heavy and light is different, but where/when you do is very similar.

i agree with wanting a jumping vid.....i like to jump, i hit jumps where I can, and most of the time i get lucky but having said that some of my more entertaining crashes and tree hugging have occurred as result of landing jumps off balance/off trail due to how I hit the takeoff. I know my problems include 1-not planning my takeoff 2-not planning my landing, 3-not looking ahead enough and just winging it. And I think only Dr Phil can fix this mess. Great Vids Phil!
@SkillsWithPhil9 жыл бұрын
+Jonathan Fulcher haha, jumping is one of the next videos I'd like to create. But I'll only put it out once I feel I can describe it accurately enough. Also, if you're willing to record a video of you jumping from the side, I would love to analyze it to help you. It would also the video. =]

@VictorCasadomtb8 жыл бұрын
hi!! how do you pump on the corner?? any special tip for it? thanks!!
@SkillsWithPhil8 жыл бұрын
+Victor Casado You can only truly pump a corner that is banked. And it's the same concept just sideways. Think of a berm as a valley, the first part of the berm is the decent, and the exit of the berm is the incline. So essentially, you want to get heavy on the entrance of the berm, and get light on the exit of the berm. The big difference with a berm is that you're obviously going to be leaning over sideways which may take some getting use to. Your tires should be perpendicular to the slope of the berm. So if a berm was vertical You would want to be completely sideways like this |-=|>o For reference, "|" is the berm, and "-=|>o" is the rider.

I'm confused how the stair section at the end fit in with pumping and not just "good timed" English bunnyhopping? Not trying to hate, maybe I just don't understand... does their need to be a curve to 'pump' on?
@SkillsWithPhil7 жыл бұрын
Good question. As I mentioned there's two parts to pumping, generating speed on the downslopes, and maintaining speed on the upslopes. that clip at the end was demonstrating an extreme case of maintaining speed on the upslopes. If you jump over the upslopes (in this case a stair) you can maintain all your speed. So while I didn't generate any extra speed, I also didn't loose any.
