I bet this would make it a billion times easier for people who do complicated makeup for their LARP! You've even got the extra counter space for your stuff like makeup or razors. Even just for contact lenses to see normally, this makes it that much easier to keep it *sanitary.*

Awesome vanity. I really appreciate all the projects you have done here. Something you could look up for inspiration is called "Campaign Furniture". It is a whole style of furniture meant to fold up in itself and fit on a wagon for a military campaign. The way you did the sides on the vanity is very much like how a collapsible book shelf was made.

I think the next piece of creature comforts to add to the LARP tent should be a Portable Tavern ala the Chest of the Traveling Chef. Maybe even integrate one of those growler kegs for beer or cider and then style it with cool clay bottles and goblets...

Only change I would make is coat the whole thing with some waterproof/water resistant topcoat. The top/outside because that's where the sink is, the inside because that's the location of the water, and the bottom in case of a spill/that's the contact point to the ground and any spill

I have an uncle who made something very similar to this back in the 80s. He actually had an antique hand-pumped faucet, which was the inspiration for the whole thing. His was yellow and sat atop a short chest-of-drawers. He kept the setup in a small utility trailer that he towed behind their station wagon on the annual camping trip along with the other camping supplies, including a large 7x21 foot, three-room tent for him, my aunt and their kids. They would sometimes use the getup to travel long distance for volunteer work. They could literally pull to the side of the road pop up this, pull out the cooler, and set up the camp stove in less than five minutes. Cook dinner and pack it all back up and be gone from the spot all in under half an hour, just eating and sleeping in the car. Raise a glass to the Gypsy Life.

I've got a "great" idea! You got a lot of terrific gear but it's got to be getting heavy. What about a peddler's cart with hidden electric motors? You wouldn't have to link the wheels to each other but put triggers in the left and right handle so they can spin independently at different speeds (for turning). Could partner with jackery or ecoflow! Other projects could be turning one of those green drop cords into a realistic-looking vine, you could do something with those light bulbs the act like a flame make a lantern. (Bulk equipment transportation and power station?)

Chris Schwarz of LAP used to work at Popular Woodworking, and one of the projects he did was a folding campaign book shelf - the article may be a free download from Pop Wood or LAP. Impressive build! One possible mod would be to move the faucet to the corner (probably need to make a new top), so it doesn't obscure your nice mirror. For non-LARP use, add more drain tube, and simply dig a grease trap. The ground soil should be more than capable of wicking away such small amounts of water. I would also add a more secure way to lock the mirror in its upper position. The coloring and detail is phenomenal, though :)

This thing is cool. Need some magnets on the doors to keep them closed as well as some pull handles. I would add a topper strip with maybe crown molding on it so there is a place to grap the mirror safely and securely. I would also use some push-button tabs near the bottom of the mirror for extra security. The sink top I would have had it fold down into the vanity and use a decorative knob that can be twisted with two bars that, when twisted, would slide into holes in the sides to hold it in place. You could use cable mounts to hold the bars in place so they slide into the correct place each time. It's more work, but fewer individual pieces to have to worry about. The mixing bowl is a great idea. Love the use of the battery-operated facet. I would use two folding water jugs, one for clean and one for blackwater. I would also add a fold down, bottom piece of wood just so the water jugs aren't sitting on the ground as well as giving it that much more stability.

Going to suggest a spell of magnetic latching so the doors don't flop open and gore someone or slap them. Stile framing was the right choice for medieval. Mitered framing is Early Modern. Super job of it!

Great build. Would have thought you'd use some sort of locking mechanism to prevent it from popping up while carrying, or at least give some resistance to the doors. But I suppose a belt would do for carrying. For ease of storaway I'd also use leather strips rather than knob grips, so it can lay flat and doesn't catch on to anything in your trunk. But wouldn't look as classy as yours. Color me impressed with several layers for depth.

That is awesome!!!! Such a great mix of super simple rustic and modern amenities that we hate to go without. One thing that I’m not sure about is the mirror. I feel like a highly polished sheet of metal, such as aluminum or even carefully laid out tinfoil could work just as well while being less breakable. The glass causes me concern, I’d rather be able to just toss it around and never have to worry. Still, this is beautiful. I demand that we receive stories about how your fellow LARPers react when they visit your tent come the day

Mixing bowls rise in the center creating a ridge to stabilize themselves on surfaces. Otherwise your bowl would just roll over when placed on a table/counter. One solution I've seen for this is to place the drain offset and have the basin lean slightly toward that drain location. Love the build, did you think about putting the faucet on the other side of the counter top so it wouldn't interfere as much with the mirror?

The only thing I'd add is some magic (magnets) to keep the doors closed so they don't flop about while moving it. Or if not magnets, a hook and clasp, or something. Otherwise, awesome, awesome work.

You can extend the screw mounting on the knobs thru the door, place a thin washer against the door, a spacer then place a 'spinner' sandwiched between two nuts so it just clears the inside of the frame. Put a small stop block inside the center stile for the spinner to rest against when the door is closed. Better hardware stores sell extra long threaded screw mounts so you can put knobs on thick doors, or just buy some threaded rod the right size to fit the knob at the same time you buy the extra nuts. You can thank the Shakers for the design idea for the inside spinner.

My one critique is that you have to sit or be on your knees to be able to use it. Otherwise you're really hunching over to use it and, as a tall person, that is really going to hurt your back in that long run. Like, it will be nice for a while, but eventually your goint to get sick of it and put in on something to increse the height to a more comforbale level.... Maybe your next project could be a trunk of drawers you put the vanity on top of. That way you could the vanity more convient to use and have a nice place to put your cloths/other gear at your home base. Just a thought.

Here is an idea for you that I think might be useful for your Larps: a collapsible wagon. You can find them at sporting goods stores, but they don’t fit the aesthetic with the big plastic wheels and such, but taking the idea and finding a way to remake it using aesthetics more appropriate would be nice. And I’m sure you can add extra features so it isn’t useful just for getting your stuff to your camp site. Just one big piece of advice: big, thick wheels. You are going over rough terrain and the more surface area your wheels have, the easier they will be to get over rough and soft ground. I got a collapsible wagon (got it for doing Instacart, but it is just generally useful including cleaning up the yard after a hurricane) and the big wheels really help it be useful in all sorts of situations. Including going up steps. Can’t go up stairs, but two or three steps is surmountable with my wagon.

Packable sinks have been around Reenacting in various forms for a few decades. Instead of a battery pump most use a rubber bulb pump intended for boat fuel lines fitted up in some sort of jig so you tread on a board which squeezes the bulb and pumps the water up into a curved pipe which then delivers the water over your hands. You should also be able to put a couple of battens (3/4" x 3/4" offcuts) inside the front and back to hold a bottom shelf, so your personal kit can be stored inside the 'spare' side and not be resting on the ground/mud. If you shop around you can get much nicer iron hinges for the exposed side hinges with butterfly or fleur de lys shapes - Lee Valley is one source, there are a few nice shops on Etsy too with an even bigger selection of fancy metal, just be sure to check ALL the Etsy vendors, some have ridiculously high prices while others like BackwoodsProvisions are much more reasonable.

To add to the armor stand suggestion, a roll up weapon rack could look pretty rad. Maybe an A frame for the legs of the rack that could collapse and be rolled up into the weapon mounts in the middle. Weapons mounts made of possibly custom little clamps using worm gears and threaded bolts for changing weapon sizes with a set up top for the hilt and a set below for the points or handles if its an axe, both attached together via leather straps. All held by guiding poles slipped through the leather in the back to keep them straight while also adding stability to the frame from being knocked over from a side bump . The straps used to wrap around the frame in a little bundle when not in use. (dont have the time now, but I figure ill leave my plan somewhere I can find later just incase I want to try this)

Beyond that maybe some runic or magic looking hand painting on the faucet to make it look a little more magical (it is a weird thing that just summons water, in game terms, after all).

Do you think you could come up with a camp bathtub? Something that collapses for travel? A way to soak aching muscles and wash away the dirt of battle?! Mr. Bubbles has lite the beacons, bathers call for aid!!!

I would attach a closure of some kind to keep it from opening up when you don't want it to, like going from one place to another, like your moving the campsite because of the battle getting closer or farther away

A "pocket hole jig" as i have come to call this device helping you make the pocket holes is realy useful. Have one myself, gives a pretty neat, and if well planed, strong bond between the planks

An alternative to pocket hole jig since we are referring to larp friendly woodworking would be a dowel jig. Just as sturdy joinery that is beginner friendly without having exposed hardware.

Love this! I've been working on an idea for folding camp/larp furniture, and now totally inspired to just go for it! Thanks!

Thought for you. A magnet would help keep the doors closed. Easy enough to counter sink one and glue a thin plate of metal on to the frame.

Y'know what I like about you, Cl3ver? Well, I'm not sure I have the character limit to let me count the ways, but if you showed me something like this at a market I'd be like, "Dang that's neat, I can't imagine how difficult that was to construct!" but watching you enthusiastically and experimentally put things together makes it so achievable. LIke, well obviously, put that thing on that thing, and of course it's going to be the perfect size because they're the same thing. It's just cutting things out! And sticking them together! The hard part is sitting down and giving it a go, and not worrying too much if it doesn't work at the end. Cuz maybe it will! And you'll wind up with _this_ absolutely delightful construct! Great design work Kit and Maddi, always a joy to sit back with a tankard of the Emerald Isle's finest brown and watch something new come to life.

Might could use magnets imbedded in the wood to hold it closed while moving it from car to tent... maybe nice aged brass latches would look better. Definitely needs latches to hold the doors closed though. Any tilt in the ground it sits on and the doors will fall open. Other than that, this was a killer project. Loved the faux antique paint job.

It reminds me of those fabric storage boxes you can find at the dollar store that pops open with that insert piece to keep it stiff.
