Could be a great saw to consider to use in one of those DIY table saws. Pretty awesome saw, though for its intended applications I think it may be quite a bit more forgiving and easier to use something like Festool's Sword Saw.

Seriously don't see how this could EVER be a necessity.. the fatigue would be extreme, its impractical. Looks like a joke. Compounding miter saw, circular saw, table saw, all better choices.

But tell me one of the ones you mentioned that can cut a 6" beam on a job site with a clean cut and some accuracy. BTW, this is a circular saw.
@bwillan6 жыл бұрын
For those landscapers that are building with 6x6 sized timbers or those doing timber framing. This saw would be quite beneficial. Sometimes rotating the timber around to make multiple cuts with a smaller saw just isn't practical.

@@joeygunzilla6878 I do repairs on 200-300 year old buildings in New England..... Lots of 8x8 (actual) oak posts and beams. That's 2 passes even for this bad boy. My normal circular saw has a 2(1/2)" depth of cut, after cutting all 4 faces, there's still a 3x3 core to sawzall through. Rip cuts are worse. 16' 8 x 8? A pass on each face and there's a 3 inch by 16' oak core to sawzall through.... Potentially a half hour to an hour extra per cut.

*Works great **MyBest.Tools** . Little lacking in power. You just have to cut a little slower. Compare to Rockwell pretty similar experience but cheaper price tag for this one. Love the lightest. Cuts accurately too.*

That's definitely the big boy on the block. One of my first carpentry jobs came when I was 20 and I was an apprentice to a guy who used a large saw to cut beams for the church build. All I could think of was don't bind the blade as it will probably flip you over and "measure twice, cut once." Great review,,

I used to work for a guy that did mostly timber-frame homes. We had an older Skil monster like that (all metal, ZERO plastic, had to be from the 60's-70's) and we just called it the "beam saw". That it was. I swear after the first few months of working timber framing, not only was I a lot stronger overall, but between the beam saw, one-handing the chainsaw, the D-handle drill with the 24" long auger bit, and the 1/2" drive ratchet to lag all the beams together, I swear my right arm was bigger than my left.

I have a 12inch Porter Cable Saw, that I bought back in the 70's, I don't remember what I paid for it but I was cutting heavy timber decking and at the time and this saw was the only saw big enough to go all the way through without having to go back through the cut a second time with a hand saw to complete the cut. I used used that saw for that one job but it was a big one and the saw easily paid for itself - been sitting on a shelf ever since. My point is; these big saws have a purpose and when in need nothing else will do if you want any kind of a smooth clean cut. Every once in awhile; when I'm looking for a tool I have put away in my tool room because I haven't needed it for a long time I happen to spot this saw and when I do I kinda wish I had a need to pull it off its shelf and start cutting something with it - kind of a shame having a big saw like this and having no use for it.

This would be certainly a welcome addition to my timber frame building. This is the perfect beam saw for one person. 24" and two persons...not so much. I will definitely weigh the pros and cons before buying one. I do like the 10 1/4" Sawsquatch which would be easier to maneuver. Thanks for sharing this video.

At 2500 RPM that blade should be around 174 fps at the teeth. Typical circular saws spin a 7-1/4" blade about 5300 RPM which produces a tooth speed of 166 fps. With the added inertia of a heavier blade (think flywheel) it should cut as good as a smaller saw.

I find mine has a variable vibration based on speed. And blade wobbles with the stock or diablo version. However the diablo straightens out. The gears in the drive are noisy and correspond with the vibration I get in the unit, which affects cut cleanliness. It is such an awesome saw, but this vibration has to go, just bought it, can't use the stock blade, thinking about returning it.

Great Saw. Suggestion: When cutting through beams, drape the excess cord over your opposite shoulder so the cord cannot slip back into the path of the running blade before the electric brake stops the blade. Thanks for this review. 👍🏽🤠 7/6/22 Question: would this have any issues cutting railroad ties? Thanks
@bryangrimsley99612 жыл бұрын
Does anybody have video or information on how well it makes rip cuts through a 6x? The Makita struggles on long rips and usually ends up tripping the breaker. Also, how does the motor hold up long term? They mention it’s identical to the 7 1/4” and that seems to be the down fall in my opinion, it’s the same size motor but it’s working over twice as hard. I really want to get one but would love some honest long term reviews from use out in the field.

When I quit my second engineering job, I worked at a fabrication shop for a while. I operated in the metal side of the shop. The other side made huge wooden trusses for general contractors. They used to notch the pieces with a special chainsaw or use a crane and set it up in a radial arm saw. One day, one of the senior carpenters gave me a speed square and said, "Can you cut me one out of 3/8" aluminum, with a steel edge, and make it a foot long?" I said, "Sure." Then he walked out the door, came back in, and set this exact saw down on the floor. I was speechless. They use it like a normal circular saw, but bigger stuff. They put the beams on top of level posts, clamp them down, and perform the cuts on foot way faster.

With the trend towards open concept interiors, framers are using more 6x beams which are costly. A bad cut can ruin an expensive beam, and making one cut instead of several to get through a 6x increases productivity on the jobsite.
