The weight of cloth is the weight of 1 sq yard of material. So "4oz cloth" means that the 1 square yard of the material weighs 4 ounces.

@cmer0n - Yes - the board in this video has the art applied directly on the foam. The texture of the foam will have an effect on the art. This can be a cool look. If you wanted a smoother finish for the art you could experiment with sealing the board with microballoons and resin. Then sanding that to a smooth surface. This sealing process is highly absorbant so test the media you will use as it might bleed.

It's not 16 oz of resin and 8 oz of catalyst (a whole fat bottle), it's 8 cc's which will be a hot batch, unless it's wintertime in Cal.

hello , I'm an Italian guy , I saw your videos to make a fiberglass skimboard I tried using a polystyrene foam sheet and then putting it into the form I have stretched the glass fiber and the epoxy is applied ! I stretch out while the resin However, DFI board has corroded ! can you help me and tell me the precise materials that I need ? because my table was literally melted ? I look through your news by francesco!
@Sorasokah8 жыл бұрын
hai Fransesco...of course melted... if u used polysteren foam, that wiil be paired with polystyrene resin,. and than, if you used epoxy resin, you should use Density styrene foam. and good luck

Hello!! Congrats for your videos, they are really helpful! There is an EPS factory that could cut a blank for me as a 3d model I made, and though I know the polyester resin melt the EPS, I can't find any polyurethane rigid foam neither the epoxy resin. In addition, I have all de things needed to glass the board with polyester resin, so I`d like to know if there is any product that could seal the EPS and protect it from the resin. Thanks a lot and sorry for my English(I'm brazilian)
@youmakmesik11 жыл бұрын
check out this site. you can buy super dense polyurthane foam blanks precisionboard.com/products/high-density-urethane-pbht/ also , in your area find a Foam company that sells packaging form like styrene and polyethylene. They will most likely have a cnc machine to cut your 3d board.

RedFive Skimboards Thanks a lot for your answer!! But as I said, I'm from Brazil and It's really hard for me to buy these blanks. The only solution would be some way to seal the EPS foam with some material and then glass it with Polyester resin

In Brasil there is plenty of surboard builders so there must be source of materials for surfboard, boat or aircraft builders. Search for Brasil shapers on Facebook and ask them for local resources. Polyester resin eats EPS or XPS foam so you must use only Epoxy resin, but if you use EPS foam you must first seal it so it dont suck all the resin from the glass. You can seal it with mix of microballs (white powder from microscopic glass empty spehers) used as filer 50/50% mixed with epoxy so it looks like white thick honey or you can use so called "spackle" used for drywalls. Search for sealing EPS surfboard on KZbin. If u use more dense XPS you dont need to seal it but allways make surface harsh with sandpaper so it bonds well with resin. Search swaylock.com forum for all you answers and even more about boardbuilding. :)

+Rui Carneiro most items can be purchased at fiberglass supply, they are in Washington on the West coast. good prices. find them online. pricey but they can be found at your local West marine, and tap plastics here in the US. thanks for watching

We do sell our boards. I have not updated the web site lately as we are working on a new one. I do post on the blog. Custom boards, as each one is made to order, start at $ 225.00 - They go up from there depending on upgrades like carbon fiber, custom art. Thanks for asking and let us know if we can help you out with a board.

2 part epoxy for surfboards - You can get good epoxy from West Systems or Resin Research. Epoxy foam will work well with EPS ( White Beaded styrene form) or the blue styrofoam and will not melt either of these.

very soon, thanks for asking.

you should just by a gallon kit. that is one gallon of resin and .5 gallon of hardner. this should be fine with a lot left over.

Way too much resin. I glass up to 7 foot board with that amount of resin.
@beachchickensmedia13 жыл бұрын
you can actually use about half that amount of resin from my experience. that amount would easily glass the bottom of a surfboard. also, the fumes are non toxic from research resin epoxy so you dont need the gas mask.

not sure if I replied. board - dry, lay glass down, pour resin over and let it soak it, now work out the air and work the resin into the glass. This is how i do it. You can also saturate the glass on a table coverd with plastic then two people can lift the saturated resin onto the dry board. now all you have to do is work out the air. goodluck.

the first board you make will always cost the most. it will cost you way more in time and supplies than if you just went out and bought a nice board. If you only want to make one i would suggest to just buy one so you can have one to ride and then slowly invest in all that you need to make a board over a longer period then it wont seem to cost as much. goodluck

If you already own sanding supplies and you only need the blank, glass and resin it’s way cheaper than buying a good quality skimboard
@youmakmesik13 жыл бұрын
@mrpandaowns - the internet, but you have to get creative to save money. auto paint store for the buckets, ebay for the glass, and you can find resin research resin on the web. I sell a couple of things that might help you out. I sell a starter kit which includes a styrene foam blank with most of the supplies you will need ( not including the resin). I sell the starter kit for $125.00 + shipping. I am also working on a how- to manual for $25.00. goodluck
