Skimboarding was the first thing I learned after body surfing (1959) and skateboarding (1960). That was at Hammonds in Montecito in 1964. We made our own skimboards. Then I got my first surfboard, a Yater 9'2" summer 1964. Surfed ever sinde. But I am amazed at what skimboarders are doing now. They are killing it.

I wish I knew someone with a good skimboard to try. I’ve been skating a long time and it seems way more fun on a good board. The only skim boards we could afford in high school were the $15 wood ones. They worked but there’s no way they would even slide on the sand like that.

I bought a skim board from the local reuse centre for $5 and took it away with me on holidays. Nearly broke my leg on the second use so I left it standing up on the sand with FREE written in front of it. It wasn't there the next day. Whoever claimed it, Enjoy.

Probably a skill best learnt as a child. Now well into my 60’s I got my first surfboard at aged ten and hung up my wetsuit almost 5 decades later. The skimboards we had as kids were round pieces of plywood with the outer edge bevelled. Fun but I sure wish I had toys like these ones. I still remember when the twin fins and thrusters arrived and was amazed at how much better they were than the shit single fin short boards that I started on. Today’s grommets make the world surfing champs of the 70s look like kooks.

At the beginning of the video when you were pumping down the wave there’s an angle where I noticed when you got to the bottom of the wave you would pop up the front of the board up so that you could get up to the top of the wave and then ride it back down and repeat. My family skimboards when we go to the beach. We live in the city so it's pretty rarely. But I love going to the beach out of my whole family me and my dad enjoy it the most. I always fall off tho. Because I don't have very good balance. I'd rather just swim out neat the huge waves. But skim boarding fun.

I'm 135 lbs and 5'10" Would a 52" board made for 160-200 lbs be too large for me? I found a deal on a barely used exile for $300. Should I hop on it or get a smaller board? Thank you Blair!
