In this video I will show you how to blend the skin on my custom paint by numbers PBNs or any painting with skin. Make yours look "flawless" and more realistic with these two techniques. I'll use the zigzag and one-stroke methods to achieve the best, most realistic results.

The hardest part is just going for it, but you can try it on a separate piece of cardstock or your palette before you start on your canvas. 😊

Very helpful! Thank you for making this video! I know this is 2 years after you made it, but it is very helpful for me. I paint in oils but am trying to also get adjusted to painting in acrylics as a way to learn another medium, but boy it's hard. I've been using paint by numbers as a learning aid, but hate the way even the most detailed paintings look when done. Going to try your method, it looks like a great way to start. Thank you again.

OMG! The long-awaited skin blending video! And here I am with a strict work deadline having to postpone watching it until I‘ve delivered. For the shaky camera I’m thinking a sturdier camera rig and maybe place wedges on your desk’s legs? It is probably that your camera is too heavy for the rig or the table.

I hope it is worth the wait! It’s a brand new, fabulous mount, and I got a new desk, BUT the desk is what is shaky. I have a plan for future videos. Crossing my fingers!

This was super useful and it looks highly achievable. I'm working on a custom of my niece and nephew and their faces are going to need exactly this. Now I'm armed with some knowledge I'm going to give it a go! Thanks Melanie

Thank you for your wonderful feedback! I’m ask by friends and family when I tell them I teach paint by numbers. They think “shouldn’t that be self-explanatory?” You would think so, wouldn’t you? But there has been so much information I’ve discovered and wanted to share along the way. Your positive feedback keeps me wanting to keep doing what I love. 🥰

@@MelanieBsCreativeStudio I have purchased this adorable bee paint by number today because of amazons prime deals and one of the complaints in the reviews was that the paint was too thin. I instantly thought, I will use Gesso and white sharpie acrylic markers, so that won't be a problem! lol. Do you happen to have a video on how to tell if paints are opaque, semi-opaque, etc??

I find it much easier to mix the two colors together then apply. This allows you to be able to blend in a much smaller space without losing your contours. If the two colors are very different it's often helpful to apply a single stroke directly to the line of demarcation, let it dry, then blend out with additional paint if needed. A thin palette knife is very handy for measuring paint, you can dip the tip in the same amount for each, if you need only a tiny amount simply scrape one side back into the pot. It's also perfect for mixing paint in the pot, the flat edges get all the way to the sides and bottom and you can scrape the paint back into the pot cleanly. For very small amounts I usually just use my brush to mix, just be sure to wipe the first color onto your palette before dipping into the second to avoid contaminating the other paint pot (put the bristles down and give the brush a little spin, 90% comes off in a small space).. I also try to go into my lighter color first.

I do not use my palette knives, because either side of the small metal tool works better to get out very little paint. I still have a lot of painting to do on this piece, and I’m going to be very careful to use the least amount of paint possible. The reason I don’t mix the colors together to create only one color is because that is only one gradation of what I need. I get an unlimited number of values by using the two methods I demonstrate in this video. Everyone has their own way, and as I’ve said in about 30 videos, I teach my way and recommended that you do what works for you. 😉

I looked it up and it basically is a liquid in a bottle made specifically to allow paint to stay wet longer..it prevents it from drying quickly so you can have time to blend

Just remember it’s just paint. You can test the technique first on another sample surface. Then test it on a very small area of your painting. Let it dry to see the results. Don’t overwhelm yourself and check the results to give yourself the confidence you need to keep working on it! You’ll do great…I just know it!!

Hi I just want to know something. I'm getting my pbn soon. My question is if I'm not finish with my work. Can this canvas rolled up and do the following day work on canvas. Any advice please this is my first time try
@MelanieBsCreativeStudio
@MelanieBsCreativeStudio 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can do that. I usually store my paintings flat, so the paint can dry completely. As long as the paint is dry, that should be fine.
