I'm the complexion of singer Ashanti, and I grew up believing black people don't use sun screen. But due to me spending a lot of time in the sun without sunscreen, my skin has suffered. The sun literally burned and irritated my skin. I have a little dark spot hyperpigmentation on my face, and though I do visit a dermatologist and use a cream to help with it. I've learned that I need sunscreen and also a spf foundation too. I now cover my skin to avoid the sun and my color is starting to come back, not all the way, but its improved greatly than how it use to be.

Same, I'm happy my skin is healing but sad it took so long for me to realize I was damaging it so much

8:08 😅 The way dark skinned relatives project when they see anybody applying spf! They act like it’s skin bleaching

My cousins are naturally light skin. They are boys and love to go outside they are teenagers. They don't wear sunscreen at all I can tell. They're skin had an ashy undertone to it and some sun burns.

Same my cousins are all light skinned and very ambiguous and I’m one of the few darker ones. But my features are not like the unambiguous ppl in my family so I tend to stand out

This is an black american issue cause you would be surprised what is considered lightskinned in some African countries and how being darker has its privileges in some of the African countries. And most don't wear sunscreen 😂😂😂 they are just learning.

False bleaching is common in Jamaica and other black countries. They value proximity to whiteness meanwhile the country is mostly black. 😂

The amount of stories i have heard about black people in general believing the myths of not needing sun screen or thinking they cant catch lice is kinda crazy😂😂😂

For real some people are delusional, but scientifically only really really dark people don't need sunscreen for example some sudanese who have purple or blue undertone don't need sunscreen

I've always used sunscreen; skin brightners have long been confused with stuff like Nadinola, that was used to even skin tone (thanks to the Caribbean and/or West African immigrants trying to look American).

@@trnigyulBlack Americans have more admixture “on average” than black Caribbeans and Africans. Maybe that’s what she means 🤷🏽‍♀️
