My condolences...my dog was old and in a great deal of pain a couple years ago so I had him put to rest. I listened to this song three times on the way back home from the vet...crying the whole time. I also learned the song shortly after that. We had a similar experience and we are connected thru this song! Music is the most beautiful thing! This song has effected us deeply and inspired us to be strong and positive and that is a testament to this song. Your father would be proud! God bless!

Man, Honestly, I'm crying right now. I've always looked for this song, and tried to learn it, but the versions that I Found weren't loyal to the original one, and the good ones were beyond my knowledge. I didn't how how to change the tune of my guitar, nobody teached me that, and only after years playing and learning by myself I figured out how to change the tune to play "the cave" from mumford and sons. Long story short, I felt it was time to retry and I found your video. I tried to tune my guitar and it costed me the B string, but I replaced it and as soon as I played the first two chords, I felt so happy, so grateful, that I couldn't avoid some tears from falling :) Thank you a lot. I will practice until perfection.

when you say the tuning is CGEGCC - does that mean in the order of the strings (1st string tuned to C etc..? )
@Rynaylorguitar7 жыл бұрын
It's tuning from string 6-1. So low E string is tuned down to C, A down to G etc.

Hey man thx for this tutorial I saved it to my guitar playlist and regret not trying to learn it sooner !! I hope you don’t mind me asking how you did that paw flick or what have you at 6:30 because those first 2 notes are confusing me it doesn’t sound the same on my guitar :( I’d mega appreciate any advice/help you can give ! Thx !!

Update: I finally figured out the paw thing!! but now even tho you’re literally spelling it out for me that chord at 7:35 doesn’t sound right on my guitar (mainly the string on the 8th fret) im emulating the same shape as you on the same frets but for some reason it sounds off idk if you can help me but if you can pls do!! Thk u !

I find that the tuning is easier to follow by tuning all strings to Open C using a tuner (1st and 2nd strings are both C), all except for the 4th string, which is tuned to E (same tuning for the 4th string in Open E tuning). Hoped this helped someone.

I don't known about you guys, but in Brazil we have a kind of "curse" about the D string.. rsrs... many people agree that she is the most brake one...rsrs... followed by the 1a E... anyway, I thoug about a solution: tune the D string just half tone above (D#), then tune everyone else a half tone below and use a capo on the first fret... actually, can we even not change the tone of the D string at all, and tune everyone else one whole tone below and use the capo on the second fret... then will be like this: E (6nd) -> down to A A (5nd) -> down to F D (cursed one)->STAY the same \o/ G (3nd) -> down to F B (2nd) -> down to A# E (1st) -> down to A Too insane? What you guys think about it? I didn't have the chance to try this yet (I'm away from my guitar/capo).

Is it okay to tune up? I got some very modest strings i should say haha! But I would love to learn this song so bad..
@Rynaylorguitar8 жыл бұрын
+Yassine Elkassabi Generally I would say don't tune up because of the risk of popping strings. But it's not by very much for the song and if your string gauge isn't too heavy you should be fine.

You mention "The tuning of the guitar though is slightly lower than the notes that I tell you to tune to. That’s why it might sound pretty horrible if you tune to 440 Hz and try to play along to the song.". What frequency is the original song tuned to, do you know? Many automatic tuners today have the option to calibrate/change the frequency :) Here is my favorite take of the original song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qX2yo5J8p699jaM What frequency do you think is being used? :)
