well dawg gone it, i was 2 days to early! i asked on a lawn care forum what should be my second fertilizer, on a overseeded and some complete reno. in certain areas on my yard. and got mixed answers. i went with second does of starter 18-24-12. now i wish i would have gone with a straight nitrogen fertilizer. i was just trying to drive the roots down. seemed important since i dont have irrigation.(a-list seed was used) god has blessed me with the rain

I live in a a cool season state and we had our first frost this morning. Idk why some people say to seed in the fall. It just does not work in my state. I have to do my cool season seeding mid summer, and by the time fall rolls around it is way too late for nitrogen.

She looks great Pete. I'm just the opposite, I did my aeration, detach, top dressing and overseeded on October 1st. Smoked two areas completely and started brand new. Mowed all lawns areas nearly scalped. Overseeded with GCI TURF Cool Blue and another premium TTF seed. Applied Carbon G Pro, Magic Cal to raise my PH level, and 28-0-8, peatmoss, shredded straw and watered. The bare dirt areas had baby germination within 7 - days. The other areas have grown in but the thin spots are still very thin with baby hairs. I am now competing with the fallen leaves. Took a chance blew them off with my backpack blower and did a quick cut. Only cut areas were the grass height was 4" and above. She doesn't look bad, I am just nervous about the steady leaf falling and possibly of temperatures dropping. Should I apply another dose of Carbon G Pro, fertilizer and Tenacity? Stay safe and God bless.
@GCITurf Жыл бұрын
Do this - use GCI 20-0-0 with NA to take advantage of the quick release so the plant responds fast and no you do not need tenacity I wish folks would stop using this so dang much its driving me nuts bro! Why the heck would you ever want to spray a super powerful herbicide like tenacity over top of baby grass??? Makes absolutely zero sense to me.

How much nitrogen is supposed to go into a renovation? I renovated with your TTTF this September. I got germination six days later on the 18th. Starter fertilizer went down at time of seeding, plus another dose of starter fertilizer 21 days after seeding which put me at about 1.5lbs of nitrogen/1k sq ft. I'll be at 42 days post seeding October 24, and I plan on throwing down some fall fertilizer on November 12. Is this too much nitrogen for a new lawn already? Can I spoon feed nitrogen while getting my K down as well?

Have you ever used DEF FLUID as a nitrogen in your mix? Would it work?
@cincybeck Жыл бұрын
It would as a pure source of N, DEF is 32% urea 68% water and nothing else based on the SDS, and urea is 46-0-0. So a gallon spread over 1000sqft would get 1.22Lbs of N. It most likely would be cheaper to just buy a 50lb bag of urea though. Plus good ferts now-a-days typically have micros in them, that will help with disease, heartiness, and color.
@GCITurf Жыл бұрын
Why not stick to good solid agronomical inputs that are proven? I run DEF fluid in my F350 not my turf.

Hey Pete, I renovated and seeded with Cool Blue on September 24th here in Raleigh NC. Granular 18-24-12 was also put down at this time at 6lbs/1k, per my local soil test recommendations. I put this same rate down again on October 15th, 21 days later. It's looking quite good, there are some weak spots but I'm happy. However, due to those 2 prior applications, at what point should I come in with a heavy shot of nitrogen like you recommended? Or should I hold off? Thanks!
@bruinscoach Жыл бұрын
Quick Question: I just put down some Green Charge 26-0-0 about 10 days ago. The yard looks decent but I have a few bags of granular fert that I’d like to throw down but think it may be too much of a nitrogen shot. Am I correct in that thinking or should I go for it? Thanks

I don’t understand how the concentration values of a fertilizer is useful advice unless you’re describing ratios of its ingredients. The _rate_ of those ingredients (e.g. pounds of nitrogen) is what viewers want to know.
@oneawesomemofo Жыл бұрын
Those are just his product recommendations. He can't do the math for every situation. Grass species, location etc can all change the amount of *actual* nitrogen you're applying. My yard is heavy on the TTTF so being that I need 2-4lbs of actual N per 1k throughout the season, I apply 1lb in the early spring, .5lb in the late spring, .5 in early fall at overseeding and I'm about to put out my last 1lb around Halloween.
