Me tooo i'd rather let them sit before getting them. The only ones whome I got day one was kokomi and nahida bc I really liked them and did not even wanted them for meta. And did pulled for yelan but lost 50/50 and Instead of yae I chosed raidens first rerun but loved them both alot. But I still first really consider everything cus i'm f2p/really low spender now but was f2p for the longest Time

Trust me I did it, you just feel dirty by the end the characters don’t mean half as much as they would had you earned them, and team building becomes a hassle lol cause there’s so many options, really sticking to what you “can” get is much more appealing. I honestly haven’t played in a year either.

For me haven’t played a gacha before genshin so I took the whole wishing currency as a challenge just to see how well I can budget. I haven’t paid for anything for over a year and I have been only really pulling characters I want. My eyes are next set on clorinde and I got over 250 wishes saved up so I’m sitting pretty good.

as a collector myself (or wanna-be) i really feel you. At the beginning I wanted to get every character in Genshin (which made me spend more money than i am proud to admit), i wanted to get every card of a specific MTG set and i even wanted to collect everything from Lorcana as soon as its released. But then it hit me: When you have all the cards, all the characters, what then? - and don´t get me started on how expensive this hobby is. I started skipping with Fontain actually, because i was already clearing abyss no problem and the first three 5Star characters didn´t really feel fun to play for me. It also helped that i didn´t wanna spend too much since i also started playing HSR, and seeing how wild the powercreep there is, i am actually happy i skipped a lot of them. At some point as a collector you have to admit, that once you have collected everything, it´s not so fun anymore.

even though the meta isn’t as important in genshin - which alleviates the need to pull every new character - it can still be challenging to not get FOMO when i see all my fave creators releasing guides, viewer summons, and other content surrounding a new character im not pulling for… i started playing genshin during version 2.1 on the day Kokomi’s debut banner started and i definitely felt *major* FOMO at the time for missing out on all the previously released that i wasn’t around for… and then for the longest time i felt like i was playing catch up trying to get every character i had missed + any new characters which resulted in a lot of shoddy half-built characters in my roster 😅 it wasn’t really til 2.8 that i finally made the decision to skip my first 5 star and tell myself that i do not need to collect every character in this game and just instead just go for the characters that i either really enjoy lore-wise or i think have super fun/unique kits! admittedly i still have pulled for a lot of characters since making that decision lol - to date the only 5 stars i have skipped are Klee, Cyno, Lyney, Neuvillette, and i don’t plan on picking up Chiori too… but i’m doing my best to stick to my decision and criteria for pulling and so it’s actually really nice (and encouraging!) to hear one of my fave creators talk so candidly about skipping a character and just feeling less pressured to pull for EVERY new unit! 🙌💖

My new exploration team is: Xianyun/C6Jean, Chiori, Wanderer with Lost Prayer, and a flex (yelan, Zhongli, Diona, etc) it's blazing fast exploration speed with off field damage capability, meaning I can run into enemies and just pop skills then leave.

I have wished on every geo 5 star since Zhongli back to back with Albedo. So didn't skip. It actually feels nice to have options want when I want to run Geo on both sides of the abyss. This abyss ran Itto side one then Navia + Albedo side two. I'm a bp + welkin player so can gaurantee a five star every patch. There's 3 tiers of my choice 1. Skip 2. On a banner I don't mind building pity and or getting the on banner 5 star 3. Banner I make sure I have enough to guarantee and lose my 50/50. Chiori was the 3rd slot. She frees up either Zhongli or Albedo for other teams when I want to run mono Geo on one side of the Abyss. The same reason I pulled Yelan. There's only 3 characters I regret pulling. 1. Wanderer, unlike Itto at the time who could clear content without his signature support. We have to remember that Inazuma loved to throw the Geo rift hounds and rift lord at us. Wanderer has a really hard time without c6 Faru (I got her on Xianyuns banner so I'm happy now. Could've waited though). 2. Eula, she's just really frustrating to play 3. Nuevellette, for a 1.0 player he didn't do anything for my account that I already had in my other characters. He also doesn't bring me anymore flexibility or gameplay mechanics. I actually find him really frustrating to play at c0 without a shielder. I'm annoyed that despite his praise he just doesn't feel that much stronger than other hydro units a c0 without his signature. That's even other 5 star weapons. I could've just gotten a constellation on my Nahida for my Nilou teams etc. The Characters I love from Fontaine are - Leney - Chevy - Furina - Navia - Xianyun (I'm still counting my luck c6 Gaming and Faru on that banner in under 150 wishes). Xianyun came home and started building pity for Chiori then lost a 50/50 at 30 wishes guaranteeing my Chiori. - Chiori Each one of these characters have something in common, they either double up on functionality of other characters giving me team flexibility, or they open up completely new game mechanics and styles.

I got going in Genshin in 2.8, so I'd skipped Yoimiya _three_ times, each time wanting her more and more as my five-star roster filled out. So, Yoimiya running with a new four-star, it was perfect timing for me...though it came at skipping Navia. Then after getting Cloud Retainer, I fell into another slump, but found I really wanted Chiori for her aesthetics, and I wanted constellations on the support Geo four-stars. Lost my soft-pity to the last "standard" five-star I was missing, then reached C6 Gorou before the guaranteed soft-pity. As I kept contemplating it, with that enabler, I decided to chase Itto instead, not letting another "goodie genki" from Inazuma pass me by. By that point, I was low on my reserves, had rolled a second The Flute on the Chronicled Wish after getting an "R6" copy already in the Chiori chase, and got C8 Gorou right away when resuming the Chiori chase, having got C7 while soft-pitying Itto. Way I figure, without Itto (nor Navia), Chiori had no solid place in my roster, and when she reruns, it'll hopefully not be alongside Gorou (he was C1 when I started! give me more Yun Jins for my Yoimiya!), and who knows how long it'd've took for Itto to come around again. I've got Arlecchino to save up for, and I bought Shenhe's costume in preparation of chasing her, so I've got quite enough to be chasing in the near(?) future where I can save aesthetics for another day. ...The Tamoto dolls _are_ really cute, though~

honestly, i like her e-skill. tamoto (her doll) does a fair amount of damage imo, continuously attacking & there's basically no cooldown bc you can use it again in the same second it poofs away. i love using her~ -- edit: also it took me an embarrassing amount of time to realize "tomoto" is short for "automaton" & just spelled differently bc ya know... "tomato" would be extra silly. her expressions are also amusing.

while im a collector at heart and would love to have every character and weapon, its just not realistic. in general, i try to wait until a rerun to get a new character, let it sit and let me form an opinion after the dust has settled and the new character hype has died down. while i still get characters on their first banner if i really like them, waiting to get them on their next banner has given me peace lmao. im more strict for star rail tho, i want a damage dealer of each element, a couple sustain units, and characters i like. that might change as my account gets stronger, at this point my genshin account clears all content without issue but i still struggle in star rail. ive also stopped being so obsessed with doing my dailies every day, because it would literally keep me up at night. these are silly little games that are supposed to be fun, and it shouldnt be that big of a deal. in the grand scheme of things, it doesnt actually matter all that much, so let things go!

My situation is different. I don't have all 5-stars, but until now I have tried to get them the first time it was possible and even in the case of the one character I do want, I did a 'courtesy 10-pull'. I was so relieved to see the purple then. Chiori I am skipping for now on my main account because I do have all the other Geo 5-stars and I want a chance to get Arlecchino, unless she makes me hate her. It'll be a 50/50 even if I she'll awe me. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Chiori, I got her on my second account and she is easily holding her own. I tried to even get her C1, but the game told me 'Qiqi C1' instead. I have neither regrets on skipping Chiori nor getting her.

i need more flexible DPSs cause most of mine are hypercarries with expensive teams. so i usually skip unless i really like a character, but even then, i've gotten to the point of waiting for reruns. i had planned to do that for Fontaine, cause none of the characters appealed to me. but Neuv was so fun, i just had to get him. Genshin has also made it easy to wait, what with not having resources (books, ores, etc.) to even build the characters that i do pull for.

I wonder if and maybe how your opinion on this topic will change at the end of Fontaine. We still got a few characters in the pipeline! :D I mean oddly relatable (I can't build teams without Furina anymore; she is just too fun) and unrelatable (owning everyone, maybe some cons) for me as I skipped 9 out of the 32 limited 5* we have; only missing Chevy as a 4*. My average 5* constellation is 0.6 and I have 4 limited R1 5* weapons. But I don't view this as a bad thing. The characters I do get weapons or constellations for feel incredibly special. My miracle run of getting C4 Furina with no pity lost and getting one at 2 pulls and one at 12 will always stay in my mind. According to my planning I should be on track for C6 in 4.6 or so when she has a rerun.

Honestly I think this is the right decision, probably for a lot of players who might feel like the gacha part of the game is too unfair or are burnt out from trying to collect all the new characters. When I first started playing Genshin, I had an obsessive need to try to get all of the characters in the game. However, I realized that this was really bad for me, as it was an unhealthy coping mechanism. So I decided on a random character that I would NEVER pull for (in this case it was Ayato as he had just released) and ever since, I've only pulled for characters I like and wanted. Now I have two insane abyss teams, and my every day player team is my hypercarry team with DPS C6 Venti, DPS C5 (soon to be C6 tho) Wanderer (they ironically work really well together and make up for each other's weaknesses, Wanderer being very Single target DPS and Venti being crowd control. Venti also has anemo res shred which helps both him and Wanderer!), Benny for healing, and either Layla/Zhongli when I want to have shields, or Faruzan (accidentally got her to c6 immediately as soon as she came out LMAO) who buffs not only herself, but Venti AND Wanderer. I've put a lot of effort and care into building this team, and my Wanderer can do so much damage /without/ the buffs from his team mates. When he's got his team mates going, everything dies in 0.5 seconds flat. Still, not pulling for Mr. Boba Tea was the best decision I ever made for myself.

When I got C2 Raiden, C2 Yelan plus their weapons, I never felt like I ever needed any other character aside from all archons. I just want all archons + furina at this point. Interested in getting Arlecchino as well, but that's going to be a 50/50 that I'll have to deal with when it gets there.

I've noticed something about myself while playing Genshin, each region I skip 3 characters and it has stayed that way since 1.X. But Chiori is not one of those 3, I love her character and I even got her weapon as my first signature weapon. Chiori is amazing, I love her kit, her animations, her personality, she is one of my first character in a while I've loved each part of them Edit for who I skipped: 1.x: Albedo, Ganyu, Hu Tao 2.x: Ayaka, Yoimiya, Ayato 3.x: Tighnari, Dehya, Alhaitham 4.x: Lyney, Wriothesely, Navia Those characters I skipped because I didn't like their characterization or how they felt to play, or both

I did gamble on Chiori because I'm just too down bad for her, and I'm enjoying her a LOT. You can just slap her on any team that has an open flex slot (even without Zhongli) and she does well. Because she's Geo, the Tamoto dolls are reliable shield breakers and with a halfway decent build, the coordinated attacks hit pretty damn hard (around 18K and 150Crit Damage gives me between 20 and 30K crit hits depending on the enemy). Or you can run double geo vape with Zhongli, a Pyro and Hydro unit such as now Yelan/Xingqiu/C6 Candace and Arlecchino/Yanfei. It works surprisingly well. I do wish she had some healing passive in her kit, but Chiori certainly did not disappoint me.

Man- you’ve pretty much described my weird compulsion that I’m trying to fight. But it’s driven by different things Not to brag- but I’ve been getting fairly lucky on my character pulls. Managed to get all limited banner characters in the last several months without breaking the bank. So now I’m riding that gambler high where I’m thinking I can get every character in every banner. Which is BAD. I know deep down I don’t need Chiori. Sure she’s cool and sure she’s a better Albedo. But LOGICALLY- I don’t need more Geo characters and I barely use Geo as it is. Hell- I only got Albedo because I already had Sucrose. I ship them and just wanted to play them together (not sorry.) So I’m fighting that gambler urge with gritted teeth. Telling myself I have 10 other characters I can optimize and experiment with instead. Hopefully it works 😅

Personally, while I did always skip characters, I have recently started feeling less "rushed" to get the characters and cons I want. The primary reason for that was, after looking at Yelan's cons, I decided I wanted to get C6 Yelan. But I'm pretty bad at saving because I'm a gacha addict to the core, and I also wasn't gonna whale all the way to C6 in one go. So I decided to make it a long term goal. As a byproduct of that decision, I ended up also skipping certain other character cons, such as Nahida's cons, Neuvi's and Furina's cons. Getting base characters I want is still something that I'm probably gonna be doing upon release, but getting their signature weapon and major cons is probably gonna be a lot less common. Oh and I guess another reason is that there's been several Raiden banners that had interesting 4*s, but because I really don't care for getting any more Raiden cons, I just end up never pulling on those banners (despite being pretty desperate for C2 Raiden on her release)

OMG! I am the same as you, I have all characters 79 and I think I have enough especially geo characters.... I have them all and the ONLY one that I use is Zhongli for the shield! I will skip her happily and I am just thinking about Arlecchino because I read that she will be hard to use, I do not need to think or wasting time learning how to use a character! i also a collector, but only as far as c1 on non good c1 char or partially good c1 char. and i kinda feel that. my passion about getting wanderer, itto, albedo has gone. i dont even have raiden shogun in my acc. nowadays i value a character just like what you said. if it is just another option for existing teams and it's not really a huge upgrade on those teams, then why i need that character. for example raiden shogun. i have yae miko for aggravate, i have fischl c6 for pseudo-battery, i have kuki c2 for hyperbloom, i have childe for national, i have beidou c6 for taser, i will pull arlecchino for overload with chevreuse fischl beidou. i have hyperbloom for single target content, i have neuvillette for anything that doesn't immune to hydro. so, yeah, i dont have raiden shogun, that one character everybody will always hyped for

Nothing wrong with skipping characters, during Version 3 the only characters I pulled were Tighnari/Deyha and Albedo on his rerun with Nilou. I wasn't hyped for dendro so I was perfect for me to skip almost all the character allowing me to focus rerun conts if I wanted. I love genshin but have a hard time throwing my money at the game ever 6weeks. I'd rather get a new game for my infinity growing backlog for my shelves for when I inevitably stop playing genshin whenever that is

FYI: Chiori has arguably the strongest DPS C6 in the game. I have it. She powercrept all my other C6 5-star DPS units who are better built. I was shook.

I've gotten most of the chars so far, but after already getting Chiori I'm probably gonna be skipping for a while until someone else I'm interested in shows up. I don't have Neuv, but I was never too interested in him despite how strong he is.

I am pretty picky while pulling for characters being an F2p player, I have around 12 5 stars in total in my account and I use all the limited 5 stars in open world in many team combinations and abyss except for Yoimiya (I got her accidently and for some reason I don't enjoy her gameplay) pretty much they are either my personal favourite characters (Furina) or I just liked their design and gameplay (Raiden)... The thing is I never regret pulling any of them (maybe except for Yoi)... I don't have much interest on 4 stars because they come home easily (except for Kaeya and Fischl, I always revamp their builds)...

I've planned to skip Chiori (despite the fact I play Itto and don't have Albedo) but she's invited herself looking for C6 Gorou. I don't mind since I already have a strong box and 36-star the abyss easily. I also don't care about constellations as all of my limited characters are C0. It's great to have that feeling you've beaten the game and you pull a character according to your taste instead of your need. It's OK to skip a character you're not found of. Hey, I didn't pull Neuvillette despite how busted he is !

Geos juyst not the same as hydro. you so often wish you could use 4 different Xinqius in your 2 abyss teams and were not far from that but for geo you dont really care if you could use 4 different Albedos. The element is just lol. I do wonder if they get a glow up like electro due to some new element or system in the future

honestly i pull on every banner unless im saving for radien (but I've had her for a year now), i skipped all of 4.4 sraight up cuz i had both xiao and yae and this time... well it'stakign all my self control to finally get a pyro 5 star (arlechinno) and not pull Neuvillete, (i have almost every hydro 5 star except for him and childe help)

Chiori maybe questionable in meta, but i'm finding her quite FUN in overworld, especially if you have albedo already. A lot of her damage is front loaded so its a fast and clean instant delete for most enemies on the map~. I remember watching your videos before, how you effortlessly farm overworld mobs with Wrio actually, and funnily enough, running around farming mats with albedo+chiori pair, is a bit like your casual shenhe+wrio combo too in terms of how enjoyable it looked/feels. PLUS chiori has permanent movement speed passive...

Chiori is the best queen, but she is that sassy pragmatic rule breaker that does her job so well, and she uses a lot of Keqing's gameplay which I love, so having free sub dps, a good personality and an enjoyable exploration makes it nice. Which also means that you're absolutely right, you can play Neuvillette on one chamber and hyperbloom on the other, the game isn't hard so you should only pull for relatable characters.

well, i've always just skipped characters that i'm not interested in, even if i was going to spend a bunch of money in Genshin i wouldn't try to get all the characters because i just don't like them all. i split all characters into 3 categories, characters i don't want, characters a want but won't spend money on, and characters i will spend on to try to get.

I used to C6 R5 every character at first then eventually it turned into C6 R1 then C2 R1 then C0 no weapon to now not pulling at all. Game just doesn’t feel the same and a lot of characters in Fontaine just feel like they didn’t need to exist.
