@jamie570614 жыл бұрын
Thanks for posting the videos Skip. I'm in the process of getting the items together to make mine. I'm hoping you can help me out with a bit of info?...... How have you got the small black "feeder wheel" to stop once it drops a piece of brass down the "slide" and onto the main wheel? And secondly, What is the black wheel made of, and could you give me it's dimensions, including the size of the cut-out you have made for the .223/6.5CM/.308? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. J.
@dhphotography6444 жыл бұрын
It's a inductive normal closed prox sensor. 4mm detection. Dunno what they worth now, about $10odd. The round case feeder is made from 50mm delrin or acetal or hdpvc. Delrin is common. The hole is from memory 8mm and a 5mm grub screw used to attach the shaft of motor. Slot size depends on the case. 10mm-14mm will cover your cases. You can cut as many slots you like in the feeder wheel and use a block/blanker or some dome head screws to blank of slots not in use. Skip

Joe Loehle the case sound like it’s sitting at 6 o’clock on the drum. Move case stopper to 5 o’clock or even 4 o’clock on the main drum. That should get your case spinning nicely

what hardware did you use for the case stop and the torch mount? Where did you source it?
@SKIPPYISAAUSSIE7 жыл бұрын
Twisted Brilliance hi mate. Not sorce parts, I tried to sorce components I could use. But was simpler to make it for the application by me. The components are mostly machined Ally. The sorced components are just the inductive sensor, the motors, the display, the power supply, on/off switch, cooling fan etc etc.

First off, thank you for this! Skip, in your later models did you go with a smaller main drum? I'm currently building a version and have ordered both 6" and 5" cake pans. Was thinking of using the 5". For the power supply I ordered 12V, 2 a. Hoping that will be sufficient to drive the motors. In addition I've ordered a 3 wire, 6V-36V inductive NPN normally closed proximity switch. I've read reports of people having to bias the motor with a 1K resistor or install a relay switch in order to get the switch to function. Has this been your experience?
@SKIPPYISAAUSSIE7 жыл бұрын
Fattonzzz_&_Jenzzz hi mate, Still the 5” drum, mainly that’s what best suited most calibers. But you can sure go bigger if you like. Tried to make it compact as possible as it’s only used when needed. I do mine in big batches of brass. I use in the later, just a 12dc 2amp wall wart ( 12v dc power supply plug in ) and wired it in a way that you can also run it off a small battery using a jack with spade connector. There is a inline fuse inside the machine. The sensor was wired as is with no resistor or a relay ( as mentioned a number of times in comments etc you have your + - and load wire ( black ) connects to your neg on case feed motor ) The whole machine is pretty much a simple wire up as it can get. I also have a 12v fan to draw and withdraw any heat from case ( 40mm fan ) that keeps the motors cool and extends there life a bit over a non fan.

SKIPPYISAAUSSIE Finished the build today. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHzWkomHrMuNg7s I'll be making a few small changes, but otherwise I am pretty happy with it. Unfortunately my proximity switch is faulty and I've ordered another. It turns out I had an extra motor controller lying around, so until the new switch arrives I'll just have to put up with timing the drums manually. Thanks again for all these videos. This thing was a pain in the arse to build, but is pretty satisfying to watch operate.

Great project I want to build one, can you let me know what is the diameter of the acetal ? also what did you use for the brass space a table saw ?
@SKIPPYISAAUSSIE8 жыл бұрын
Mark Hernandez it's 50mm, original bb had 40mm, it was just what I could get at the time. I used a mill in V2 but you can use a drill and or drill press. Just clamp it down, start a pilot hole so you remove 3/4 of the material and clean up with a file. You could use a table saw. Use what you have on hand and your imagination to achieve the wanted result.

Thank you for posting these videos. I've built one of my own, but I'm having a problem with something that should be easy... but I can't figure out the best way to do it - How do you cut the edge of the cake pan so you get a smooth, consistent edge? I was able to figure out everything else, but I'm messing up cake pans trying to get them cut right. Thanks again!
@SKIPPYISAAUSSIE8 жыл бұрын
Glenn DesOrmeaux Hi mate. To mark out the cut. What you can do, depending on the tools you have. You can chuck it in a drill. Then hold a pencil while it's turning to get the line. Or you can fold a a4 piece of paper. Then with the fold , wrap it around the pan then tape it then trace the outline, or you can do the same with emery cloth, Then cut. If you have a drill press you can do same as the drill. Or lathe you can do it also. Plenty of ways to skin a cat.

Hey Skip, how do you connect the black plastic case feeder to the motor?
@SKIPPYISAAUSSIE8 жыл бұрын
Sivutha Pot Mate I just used a grub screw, m5 stainless grub screw, as the motors have a flat spot on the shaft so you could use a grub screw, bolt, what ever you like. ( ex: cut the head off a bolt, and then cut a slit in the bolt so you can use a fine blade flat head screwdriver) that's a option so you don't need to go buy a grub screw. Plenty of ways to skin a cat

Before you make these super machines. Look for the right temperature for properly annealing your brass. They will tell you that you need tempilaq to get the correct brake temperature. This is nonsense, use what they used to in the past. dark red, two orange. 750 ° F tempilaq will give you stress relife (longer case life) but will not give you reduced hardness (cool release).
