Update:10/2015
Skip here,
I am building V2.0 for those interested ( See this vid's description for further details • Skips case annealer v1... )
My DIY home made case annealer v1.6 final build.
I have a little left to do but this is pretty much it. I'm happy with it. But this is what i did for 4 hr's today with hand tool's and some power tools.
90% of parts sourced for the build come from eBay and most of it came from china. ( I know it's not the same gear i had ) If i used the same gear the build cost would of been less.
12 volt PSU ( $16 ) it's for led light strips, can use just about use any 12 volt power supply.
2x 25rpm 8mm shaft 12 volt motors ( $16) ( if your using just large cases then the 8rpm version will be better, also cheaper.
2x on/off + turn pot digi read out speed controller ( $16 ) not really needed if using just large cases but I would recommend for doing all sizes of cases.
5" ( 125mm ) cake tins ( ally ) $2 each ( I brought 4 ) $8 total
Blots+nuts ( $5 )
Everything else I had laying about to use for the build like wire,screws,liquid nails,tools to make this annealer. Tools used were a jigsaw,drill,drill bits,screwdrivers,spanner,grinder,hammer,hand files,ruler,pencil,dremmel for the finer touch ups. Mostly all tools you can find in the shed. The case feeder drum was milled out using a jig and a bench vise with a router bit on the dremil ( takes longer to do then on a mill ) it's just 50x50mm cheap plastic round bar I got for a few bucks. ( 300mmx50 $10 ) enough to make a few of them.
As to plans well no plans all off the head as I went, thanks Greg and Adam for the brainstorming. I'm happy how this turned out, now just for the finer touches. But this is the final build for me :)
For about $60 you can build your own auto annealer. But it's about $20 to built the manual feed like my first video.
So you can go and build your own annealer for cheap and with a bit of time on your hand's. Or you can spend big $$$ on a factory built one.
Again i want to thank Mr Longrange for his inspiration on the annealer and to the guy's on our forum. Loved working on this project it's been fun.... But now she is almost done. :)

Greetings Skip, frist off im very impressed with your ingenuity. This build is absolutely incredible, yet very simple in design. You have beaten the big boys at there game. This design is much more efficient and affordable than the four and five hundred dollar machines. please if you would make a list of all materials and part numbers needed to purchase to build. I love the fact that you can load it up and let it run, nothing like the flat wheel where you have to consantly feed it brass. Good o

LOL The biscuit tin did the job alright for awhile LOL. But yes this one is nicer :) I might even give it a lick of paint yet to tart it up a bit more :D LOL I've gotta scrounge up a bit of plate to make the back over and seat the digital read out's and the turn pot's and on?off switches. But i think that's it for me on making the annealing machine's. Ive got two drum's 1x 50mm thick ( for doing large cases ) and 1x 35mm thick ( the silver ally drum's "Cake tins " ) for doing smaller cases like .223 - .308 . I just have to change the case feeder drum ( The white drum you see feeding case's ) for running .223 and everything else run's with the .308 case feeder drum. When i run my larger cases like 300 win mag i just use the larger case drum.

SKIPPYISAAUSSIE I like it, looks like a winner mate, quick question for you, how were you getting your speeds and feeds for proper annealing? just use some of that tempilaq gear and record the settings on the digital read out? Ive had a bit of a play myself with a deep socket, blow torch and some old scrap brass but it felt a bit hit and miss and I was certainly never game to put my Lapua brass through. If i still had acess to a machine shop at work with a decent mill and indexing head i might have made something more like the commerical machines out there but since im back to limited equipment that design looks to be the ticket, just need to slot a piece of nylon and bore it for a shaft. Youve certainly given me something to think about. Cheers mate

Don't know exactly where you can source them. But they are just acital,delrin,nylon,pvc extruded machinable plastic bar stock. EBay, machinest suppliy shop etc you can source. A fellow Aussie named Cheng has done a cheap machine available in some countries he has suppliers in the US. It's called the ugly annealer. He is supplying nicely built machines for the same cost as I was building them for when I made v2 of black Betty annealers.

Brilliant, mate! Really first class idea. But why the two motors? Why not one motor driving two identical pulleys or sprockets, so the two rotors always stay in time with one another? Surely there’s no point in having them rotate at different rates.
@SKIPPYISAAUSSIE
@SKIPPYISAAUSSIE 3 жыл бұрын
It's been mentioned time and time again. It was just for the simplistically. Without having to make standoffs, pulleys belts bearings etc. The later version added just a inductive sensor that turned the feeder drum off and worked off the single pwm.

Eric Dee If I wanted to market it, I wouldn't of made it open source and gave it freely out to the world. Just proves you don't need to spend mega bucks on a tool to do a simple job. With a little time and some tools you can build your own auto annealer for $100. Now I do make V2.0 see the other vids. In my spare time for local guys and have made parts for people who are local Aussies, kiwis area. I don't make it for free, I do charge a hobby rate for that.

Hi skip, any guidance on wiring up the motors and their respective controllers?
@SKIPPYISAAUSSIE
@SKIPPYISAAUSSIE 9 жыл бұрын
Hi mate The digital controllers used in the build of v1.6 came pre wired with the turn pot and on/off button. ( not bad for $8 ) Only really need to connect the -+ to the controller and the -+ to the power supply. 3mm auto cable will do fine red for positive and black for negative. As for the AC power, a sparky should do it. Im not liable should you decide to wire the ac too dc up yourself. Each country is different like in Aus, its green yellow ( ground ) red ( positive ) black ( negative ), yanks have different colour cable codes. You don't need a lot of power to run both motors and controllers, you could find a dc power supply that runs off mains then you could just cut the cable and connect the +- cable to the controllers. Or another option is a small 12v battery to run it off. ( plenty of ways to skin a cat ) just have to find a way that suits your needs.
@SKIPPYISAAUSSIE
