We love the Skoda Enyaq at AutoEV. In fact, of all the mid-sized crossovers from the Volkswagen Group that are on their MEB platform, we think it is the one to have, even over the ID.4/ID.5 and Audi Q4 etron. But now Skoda have upped the ante with a more powerful vRS model. And not only that, you can also have it in a Coupe bodystyle. So, is this the Enyaq to have? Is this the one that delivers the killer blow to its cousins from Volkswagen and Audi, not to mention all the other sporting SUV coupes out there? Its time to find out as Bryan puts it through the scrutiny of the AutoEV Road Test Review.

In Sweden the vRS is only 260£ more than the 80X, so for me the choice was easy. Sure it might not deserve the vRS badge powerwise, but the added extras that came with the package were worth more than 260£. Great video by the way, informative, and professional!

I just got mine in the same red color in December. The rear storage is removable BTW. The screen is laggy, but mostly the first time you use the function, after that its very quick. My car is fully loaded with everything you could get, but in Norway we only had two packs, Max & Ultra, then the tow bar, 21" wheels and boot storage package, so not a lot of options to choose from really, but the UK can be different. The rear wiper is not available here, only seen it on (pre-production?) press vehicles on KZbin. I looked at the VW ID.5 and the Q4, also the EQC and ix3 and iX1, but the Enyaq VRS came out on top for the most part due to range and styling, and thats from someone who has driven BMW's from 20 years. The car is quick, but it's not fast, but then again it is a SUV coupe, same with the suspension, the active suspension helps though. Its a decent daily driver, nothing else. I use individual mode, because I like the heavy sport steering, but with a bit more comfortable suspension setting. I find the rear a bit too soft and bouncy even with active suspension, but I'm on 19" winter tires, will be interesting to see when I get the 21" summer tires on. Good thing is that things can be changed with software updates further down the line. My conclusion is that it looks good, performs decent, and if you want a fast, fun car, but a second more purpose built car.

When we were looking at a family SUV in 2021 I tried an Enyaq 80 Studio for a day. Great family car with a huge boot and I would class it as a very practical, safe and comfortable family cruiser. Didn’t get one as there were better deals on my company scheme but was definitely on my shortlist. I agree with your review on the vRS - it doesn’t really make sense on this platform but still a very nice car.

Brilliant review, drove the VRS last weekend, over 450 km here in the varied terrain of mid Norway, including some snowy mountain roads over 2500 feet, (approx 800 meters). The car performed stoically and the winter range around 330 km on 95% charge, temp -3 C to -8 C. Very solid and safe driving for this pensioner. I agree that the 80X Standard would be the model of choice, but here in Norway the waiting time is ? Many months. The Coupe VRS is more readily accessible at present, but my Scottish genes are saying, patience laddie, wait for the 80X! Keep up the excellence, you deserve way more viewers. Kind regards, Alex.

I think you are spot on with this review. I'm a fan of Skoda's generally & I currently drive a petrol Superb Estate. However, this VRS seems to be a bit of style over substance & like you said, not deserving of the VRS badge. By comparison my L&K spec Superb has 4 x 4, more BHP & it's probably quicker to 60mph than this VRS too. Then we come to the price. OMG. Nearly £60k!! That's double what I paid for my first house! I know that's not a fair comparison but its one many of us relate to as we get older. Our first EV later this year will be a used 5 door hatch for my wife (model to be decided) but I think I'll be keeping my Superb estate for a while longer though. HNY to all at Auto EV & I look forward to watching more of your reviews.

Loving the review, AutoEV channel deserves way more subscribers! Standard Enyaq makes more sense to me and in the standard 60 or 80 trim. The 2023 models have now cut the options to only a few packs but they still have interior design options too, still over complex to order. The second hand market for the Enyaq is just bazar and very frustrating to compare cars. Even the dealers don't understand the packs, some of which come in basic and advanced level and they don't list on the adverts or call them something slightly different. The Koreans and Japanese have the right idea, 3 or 4 specs and choose the colour. There is a book on this subject, the Paradox of Choice by Barry Schwartz, really worth reading.

Choosing options for Enyaq was really weird. First order you were able to choose everything differently, then they started making packages, and even bigger packages and more standard items and less packages. And now there are less packages but standard model, visual model, and sport line and RS line.

I think you are absolutely right, the Enyaq does look much sharper than the VAG rivals 😂 - but it is a really big car (if that's what you want) ! Agreed, as VAG don't really have performance versions of their MEB platform cars, keep to lower spec family-friendly versions - good advice. I looked over one in the showroom when I picked up my Cupra Born and was impressed - but the Born is perfectly big enough for me 😁. I am, of course, waiting for the Cupra recall the car to replace my steering wheel with their version of the Skoda one (with proper buttons) - might be a long wait 😂.

How utterly delightful to view such a diplomatically critical and honest review; thank you. As an owner of an original Enyaq iV 80, that car knows what it is and doesn't try to be something else. It's just a superb family car. The vRS is trying to be too many things to too many people and gets lost along the way. The MEB platform is not suited to sports type cars. It's for practical family cars. The vRS is trying too hard to be sporty, when neither the shape, the chassis nor the performance warrant that moniker.

I have one of these coming through and ive watched hours of reviews and read countless articles. A lot are missing the point of the VRS coupe.....its better looking than all the others. I cannot wait to get up every day and know i have this on the drive. Its not about doing 70 through a hairpin corner or blasting off the set of lights...its about knowing you have one of the prettiest cars available and you will be part of a very select few who will have one. Style and exclusivity are both substances in their own right!

Hi Steve. First of all, thank you for watching the video and taking the time to comment. The support is very much appreciated. I deliberated long and hard over this review, as I didn’t want it to sound like I didn’t like the Enyaq. I do. I love the Enyaq. In fact in our next video (coming this week) where I test a new rival to the Skoda I mention how in my opinion, the Kia EV6 and Enyaq are the two best cars in their class. And I stand by that. My wife loved driving it too, and she preferred it to our Cupra Born long termer that we ran. And as I said, whilst I’m not a lover of coupe-style SUV/crossovers, there is obviously a market there, and of them all, the Enyaq is a much better looking (and driving) car than the VW equivalent. It’s just for me, the vRS is Skoda’s most sporting nomenclature. It evokes memories of the rally team and the little Fabia and Octavia were dynamically brilliant as vRS’s. But I found that sporting edge lacking here, that’s all. I’d rather have a big spec 80X Sportline, and I think that is the pick of the range. But that shouldn’t be taken as we aren’t fans of the Enyaq, because we really are, and all the bits that are good on it, are really good. I’m sure you will love your car, and you’ve made a good choice. Thanks again for watching AutoEV. Bryan.

Have to agree re the SportLine 80X, I’ve had one for over a year and love it, it’s the sweet spot of the Enyaq range. I ‘m not convinced that I could buy a VRS, it isn’t different enough to the SportLine to be worth the extra money.

Can't argue with much you've said here; VAG bringing the Skoda up to the same pricing levels of their other brands has just left a huge door swinging open for other brands to scoop up the market Skoda traditionally catered for - or are VAG just turning their back on bread and butter stuff?

Only one side whilst filming Brad, but trust me, I didn’t push it past where the seat would be in its upright position, and I always try the suitcases in before I film so that I know that I’ve tried every permutation before I make any statement. They all fitted with the seats up, parcel shelf in place and the hatchback closed. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

My Wife wanted a Skoda Enyaq iV 80X Sportline, but when we went to the showroom, a new VRS had been delivered that day. We bought the VRS with Maxx package. If I remember correctly, it was about the same price as the 80X Sportline with all the options added. So no real difference in price. Chose the metallic black colour option

I think all SUV type coupes are completely pointless starting with the Beemer & Merc version. My Enyaq IV80x is a fabulously useful car with a folding tow hitch. I ordered mine with limited extras so didn't get the heat pump or adaptive cruise control. Got the smallest wheel size. It is an excellent car for trailer towing and long journeys, so much better than my ID3.

Good idea from Skoda but the rear looks like a Vauxhall insignia. The ID3 or Born just as big inside ? Vegan (vinyl) leather mmmm. I think the Q4 etron looks nicer even though it costs more. Skoda front light up grill a big No No unless you like " bling ". Its supposed to be sporty not blingy. Front bumper black accents look cheap Chinese ebay stick on ones they need to integrated bigger vents. Its like a Mercedes AMG Line car "all show and no go" so why not just stick a SPORT badge on the back of your Enyaq or a VRS badge ?.

I think it’s over-styled. It has far far too many divided windows with small quarter lights, and that illuminated grill, when no grill is needed on an electric car, is redundant. It’s a car, and too expensive for what it offers. Thanks for the review.

Hi Nikita. First of all, thank you very much for watching the reviews, and of course, taking the time to write such lovely words about them. Well I am sorry to hear about the theft of your Peugeot. Nothing, it seems, is sacred anymore. Now the e2008 is a very good car, and has recently had a minor tech uplift making it a little more efficient. So if you enjoyed your previous car, I wouldn't discount another one. However the MG 4 does offer a lot of car for the money. You wouldn't have the elevated driving position of the Peugeot that you had, but in other respects, you may get better range, a better warranty and one of the best new EVs out there. It really depends on your budget though. Our real winner of 2022 was the Renault Megane E-Tech. It is more expensive, but it is a more stylish, better built car in our opinion. The MG is much better value for money though, so it really comes down to what you want to spend. Have a look at the Renault first, but don't feel you are being short-changed by the MG 4. It really is an excellent car. I hope that helps, and please feel free to get back in touch if I can help any further, or if you need anymore information. Bryan @ AutoEV

Thank you very much for your reply. Funny enough, I had a test drive with the Renault Megan’s E-Tech before I ordered EV Peugeot 2008 and I didn’t like couple of things about Megan. Firstly, I found it very uncomfortable getting in and out the car, the seat belt was a nightmare to put on, too much going on on right side of the steering wheel which I found unpractical and wasn’t very impressed with the interior of the car. I know it’s ecstatic , definitely not important as the performance but I somehow didn’t have that feeling when I could say, I am loving it, I must have it which I had with 2008 and now with MG4. For longer journeys we use my husband’s car , the car I am getting is only for every day to drive around London. Once again, thank you very much and I will keep enjoying your reviews. Best, Nikita
