2004 Skoda Fabia clutch replacement
In this video we show how to remove the gearbox drive shaft and all the other bits you need to remove the gearbox
As always when you're replacing a clutch on any car always replace with the full clutch kit don't try and save money by just replacing the clutch because in the long run it will cause you more delays and cost you more money also try and replace with a branded clutch as the cheap Clutches don't really last

Love the comment about using a socket with a lifetime warranty... As a DIYer I use (mainly) Halfords Pro tools which has lifetime warranty on anything except the moving parts of ratchets etc. Came in handy when one of our old Aygo's needed new pads & discs and the discs had never been off and the screws on the discs were more than tight. Popped the torx socket in there gave it a good whacking there and whacked straight on the back of the socket. Broke the socket on the last screw, popped down the road and they swapped it straight out no questions asked despite it looking clearly worse for wear.

The first thing I do when buying a used car is buy a proper manual for it (Chilton's, Haynes or even OEM). It saves you money and frustration in the long run.

The first thing I do, and recommend, after buying any used car is buy the shop manual for the car (Chilton, Haynes, or OEM) there's a wealth of information you just don't get from a KZbin video, even when in series. It's very easy to go back and re-read a section when you don't quite understand.

Great video to demonstrate how some of the trade treat your vehicle and why i would steer well away and just diy instead.......no pain no gain people.

I am taking apart my Skoda Rapids engine and so I had to remove the tranmission aswell, probably needs a new clutch anyway. It's abosultely insane how some of the stuff is designed/engineered. In your case you could atleast remove the exhauts if you wanted because you can unbolt the pipe from the cat but on my car it's a single piece. You have to undo the whole thing from the turbo but inorder to do that you have to remove heatshield from around the turbo and to do that you need to remove metal coolant pipes, oil pipe for the turbo and the bloody O2 sensor which you can't even properly access with a wrench. I don't understand what is wrong with them at Audi/VW. Why do they insist making so many bad design choices while at the same time they can also make some really good stuff.

Great work Leon and that looks like one aggravating job. And the part of getting that CV axle out would probably have me throwing tools around :) Yep, the clutch looked to be in pretty bad shape for sure!

What's the average mileage for a car to come in for a new clutch? Most of the cars in my family need new clutches at 120,000-ish on Ford's and about 140-150,000 on Merc's.
@bodgitandleggitgarage
@bodgitandleggitgarage 7 жыл бұрын
8ile it all depends mate on how you drive who drives it and all that is possible to destroy a clutch in five minutes then I have seen touches to go over 250000 miles

A 1.2? Is that a 3cyl? Is it wrong that I enjoyed watching you pound the hell out of that CV axle? You need to get Big Nasty, it will make your life easier :)

just checked the wiki and sure enough it is a 3 cylinder weirdly they offered a 1.0 liter that was a 4 cylinder so go figure.
@zoidberg444
@zoidberg444 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Should be. A lot of smaller VAG vehicles have these 1.0 and 1.2 3 cylinder engines now. 3 cylinders are becoming quite popular on this side of the pond. They are replacing the smaller 4 cylinder engines or will do in the near future and some manufacturers like Ford are trying to replace the larger normally aspirated engines with turbocharged 3 cylinders that are supposed to have the same power but better fuel economy.

Hi, of course I am one of your subscribers and I love your videos, very useful. I have a skoda 2000 1.9 sdi diesel and the gearbox is bad, can you please help with any information on how to not buy the wrong gearbox and to not have the surprise of not a correct one. I don't want to take mine off before I find a great deal gearbox online. Thanks, Alex

@bodgitandleggitgarage 6 жыл бұрын
Alexandru Garboan hi mate if you ring any good scrap yard up they will take the engine code from you and they will match up the right gearbox as regards getting one that is good at the end of the day it's a second hand gear box there is no guarantees in this game but you can spin the output shaft just to make sure it's pins nice and freely then wiggle it up and down and make sure there isn't a lot of movement in the output shaft you can also go to the gear selector and select the gears as you spin it this is all you can really do without putting it in the car
@alexandrugarboan2010

bodgit and leggit garage thanks mate, I would love to open the gearbox and repair it but I am afraid to order parts and getting more expensive than another second hand gearbox. Thanks again mate
@bodgitandleggitgarage
@bodgitandleggitgarage 6 жыл бұрын
Alexandru Garboan yes mate it definitely would cost a fortune doing it that way but if you get a second-hand one you can always open it and have fun with the old one but if you do you should film it and put it on KZbin so we can see

bodgit and leggit garage Good news got the gearbox off this afternoon however, would I need to change the flywheel as well been told it's a smf but I'm not too sure how to tell really. By the way it's a 1.9 tdi engine code: ATD with the 5 speed box. Thanks
@bodgitandleggitgarage
@bodgitandleggitgarage 7 жыл бұрын
lethal0weapon7777 hi mate I'm not sure if the top of my head what flywheel is on that the easiest way to tell is a dual mass flywheel is very thick and you should be able to hold it and slightly twist it if you cannot do this you do not have a dual mass flywheel and you do not need to change it unless it is very badly damaged with heat
