Nice one, glad I’m not the only one that ‘struggles’ with electrical connectors on cars, it would help if there was one sort throughout rather than lots of different types 😀 thank you!

Yep I think you are 100% right there, you only have to see how difficult it is to change a headlight bulb on some cars… 🤬😀

Hi HatBoyHarvey, thank you for doing this, I like the way you operate! not trying to make anything look easier than it really is!, I watched it in the first place because I am currently enjoying my third iteration of the Fabia diesel, the first one about the same as yours lasted for about ten years before it went a bit wobbly!. Now I have a fourteen year old Roomster because I need the larger load volume sometimes. The real reason I am posting this is because I have done some electrical repairs myself over the years and became a firm advocate of shrink wrap cable sheathing!, it is one way of wrapping connections to alleviate the stress fracture that caused your to give way in the first place, I also wonder if those crimps you get should have one wrapping the insulation while the other wraps the bare wires. One other recipe involves applying a wodge of hot melt glue over the joins!, anything to reduce the constant bending at the junction. Cheers, Richard.

Thanks, yes shrink wrap is a good thing, I've left mine on a job and have ordered some more :-)

A good thing to fix Harvey. Remember when you were doing alternator in a previous video, and you had to rev the engine a bit to get it to start charging? You won't have to any more. Doesn't sound that important until you think about what you might do on a frosty winter's morning: start engine, put rear screen heater on maybe cabin fan too, start scraping other windows. All this time, the battery would have been supplying all the power, alternator doing nothing. now that wire's fixed the alt will start charging at idle, within about 3 seconds of the engine firing.

@@PeteA4-q5w Thanks, just need to figure out the check engine and EPC lights!?
@PeteA4-q5w12 күн бұрын
@@HatBoyHarvey I think the glowplug light does the job of the check engine light on a diesel Fabia of this age. I think maybe only petrol ones have an EPC light? Not 100% sure on either of those, but if a scan says no fault codes, and there are no warning lights popping up, I'd say all is well. How did the big trip go?
@Millionaire_Money_Manifestor14 күн бұрын
I had to do this job on my alternator connector. This was effecting charging the battery and the front electric windows where playing up to. I just cut the wires and re joined the wires without the connector it does the same thing. I also had to do the same with the reverse sensor wires lights stopped working. So cut the wires and just joined them back. 1 tip I used pipe insulation put it around the wires on both to protect them from rubbing against the gear box. I know you can use wires shrink but it still rubs a lot so pipe insulation thicker.

I think those crimps are called Weatherpak if you want to get a proper tool. The silicone bung has a cutaway in the crimp jaws.
@HatBoyHarvey11 күн бұрын
Yes, thanks, it would be good to have a small pair of crimping pliers specific do these well, but I'm yet to find some any better than narrow nose pliers yet.
@VintageLynx11 күн бұрын
@HatBoyHarvey Indeed. If you do get some crimping pliers, for these small connections you really are better off with ones that do the conductor and insulation crimping actions separately. If you are working in-situ space is often restricted and the larger all in one types don't usually fit - or block your view. Been there. 'Engineer' brand crimping pliers are excellent. Compact and good quality. Made in Japan.

Genuine connector only £4 on eBay with new crimp terminals included. There is also enough length in the brown and blue wires to cut and fit new connector without stressing the cables.
