Two months into ownership of a RS wagon with the Premium Pack (in Graphite Grey - the Mamba Green was a bit confronting). Space, comfort, practicality, good on fuel and then it goes, stops and handles brilliantly when you want it. Previous car for 5 years was a Mazda 6 GT wagon with the 2.5ltr turbo engine - Mazda was quick, comfortable and luxurious - more a fast GT than a sports car. Had a Renault Megane GT220 wagon for 5 years before that - Megane was fast, noisy, harsh but super fun to drive. Octavia RS is that middle ground between both. And, fast wagons are cool.

Got the same but in the Mamba Green. On my third Octavia RS. First one was yellow. Best efficiency was 5.1 Canberra to Sydney, 110kph and air conditioning on. (It is an overall 600m drop though)

I have one of the last Superb 140TDI diesels with 200ks on the clock. Brilliant car. That car is night and day better quality wise than my 2 year old Benz C Class. Skoda’s are massively underrated. A very wise buy for someone wanting a Euro car without breaking the bank !!

I have had my VRS wagon for 8 years. Sydney rush hour sees 9.4 litres but normal use is 8.0 litres. Sydney to Canberra round trip just creeps into the high 5's if I cruise at indicated 120kph. Just coming up to 150,000 kms and the only things that have been replaced are a battery, tyres and brakes.

Skoda makes some wonderful cars that are better than many other cars. I’d buy Skoda above many other brands, including VW. We have (as second car) a Launch Edition Karoq, still at just 23,000km travelled. Super comfortable, well built and trouble free. The Octavia is a great car in any edition, this RS wagon looks superb. I do, however, wish their optional add-on packs were less add-on and more part of the deal. Skoda makes great driver’s cars, and I look forward to seeing their EV’s in Australia. Fuel economy sounds on par with the Karoq Sportline, similar engine. When you buy from a dealer try to negotiate in a Service Pack, it’s worth trying.

Great review. I love Skodas. Across the board I think they outclass their more "premium" VW siblings, and have tons of practicality and generally really nice design aesthetics. I know they use some cheap plastics here and there, especially on the rear doors, but I actually think VW are worse for doing that, and even Audi can be a bit like that. It seems to be a trend in the Volkswagen Audi Group.

Yeah this is a great motor, I think it's the same as my GTi. Very responsive and civilised at the same time. May or may not have the same weak points (mainly the plastic water pump might need replacement earlier than other cars) and generally it is a motor that requires diligent servicing. But it is brilliant to drive.

Correct, same engine as the GTI and R, which is also good for the enthusiast as there is a healthy aftermarket scene for this engine too if you’re interested at a later date

I have a MY23 Octavia Style with both option packs. It replaced a written off Golf MK8. The Octavia, though it is based on the Golf with the same drivetrain, is a better car than the VW in so many aspects! I’m surprised. Beats the Golf in space, comfort, refinement and dare I say reliability!

I have ordered the Octavia VRS wagon in Mamba Green with the premium pack. Looking forward to receiving it in late April :-). My current car is a 2019 Renault Megane RS, which is fun to drive, probably a bit livelier, but Renault spare parts are a huge issue and their infotainment software is unreliable. Otherwise a fun car to drive. I used to have a 2008 R32 Golf which was absolutely trouble free so I'm going back to Volkswagen

How much did you pay mate with the premium pack as this same car and colour is on my radar. Thanks.

I like it that most people are starting to understand that the infotainment systems are basically 2 things: a) cheap cost cutting compared to manual controls, b) a pain in the butt. And yeah, I don't need to see the map of the whole town, I just need to know the next turn. If someone could make a car without a big screen and just a simple bluetooth connection to my phone, I would actually pay more for that car.

There’s a lot of mixed opinion on the fake interior exhaust noise. Having owned one since October I actually like and appreciate the noise because the performance matches the audio so in that regard it’s fakery can be forgiven because the performance is there so it’s not like it’s making a noise and not performing.

At 1.82m & after 5.5 years, I'm noticing the same with our Megane GT Sport thanks in part to a more noticeable lower steering column, but I've developed an entry technique: finger hold the A pillar until my butt is in, then I hold the roof rack for final settle. Bought Reggie over the Skoda Octavia 180 which was too...Germanic where Reggie was/is much more elegantly French. However, bought a 2nd hand SKODA YETI (aka YODA) which my better 1/2 (& I) absolutely LOVE. Still amazed by its performance, especially the torque!! I believe the previous owner "chipped" it as care needed when moving off in the wet & sometimes uphill🤩😀
