Being nosey, what's the Rover? Around 2005 I had a P6 (3500S) as a daily driver plus club and holiday use, and for a few years now a mate's had a 75 2l diesel estate (with BMW bits that fail, typical this century German engineering 'quality').

Another clear and well explained video from you. I had to check the cabin filter, that I'd previously changed. on my neighbour's car and had to read the vehicle's Owner's Manual again as I'd forgotten how fiddly the glovebox draw was to get it to drop out of the way. Like many simple jobs on modern cars they're made a bit more awkward by the design and use of cheaper (until you have to buy them) fittings and materials (finest VW foam and plastic hook cover in your case). 😗

Agreed! Many ‘everyday’ jobs are now unnecessarily awkward. Brittle plastics and a lack of space to work make it tricky to change some bulbs, for example. Oh well.

Having just done this for about the fourth time I can feel your back pain! There is no easy way to get that plastic cover back on over the pipes without being a contortionist!!! Being tight though, I am happy to do it to save the servicing costs.

Very useful video indeed. Need to change the filter on a 2012 1.6 TDI Octavia Mk2 so presumably the same procedure. Can you also advise if a dirty and clogged cabin filter would cause the fan motor resistor to blow? We changed one a couple of weeks ago and the replacement part has failed already. Some suggestion that they overheat if the said cabin filter is dirty. Many thanks if you can advise.

Glad the video helped, Ian. Like you, I’ve heard that a resistor can overheat if the filter’s blocked. I haven’t personally experienced it, though. If it was my car, I’d fit a resistor and filter at the same time to see what happens. I suggest you get good quality parts. Perhaps your existing resistor isn’t as robust as some rivals. Good luck.
