Cool. Very informative. I have the same bus. Its half converted but not much emphasis on engine yet except for running it now and again. But, now I know how much it holds. Thanks

I just had my fuel lines replaced on my '07 MBE906 - it's a free repair on recall.

Change the filter first. It has a valve at the bottom of the canister that opens when you unscrew the cap. This drains the oil out of the filter canister into the oil pan. I would never ever use one of those EZ drain valves. The way they stick out makes them vulnerable to being hit and end up with a broken oil pan. Also, look up into the oil drain hole for debris or engine parts. Last week I began doing an oil change on my MBE and found part of a cam bearing sitting right there by the hole.

I saw your post with the metal chunk coming out and suggested you remove your oil pan to address is and clean out your pan or remaining feverish. MOST models of these school buses have the oil drain in a place that’s not simply “dangling” beneath the bus for loose items on the road to flop up and shear off. It’s not a concern. In fact, it’s way above front axle and off to the side and no more exposed than other lines for critical fluids like coolant and transmission oil.

Heyya! I have a very similar bus. I'd love to see some detailed explanations on the mechanic functions of the engine, and common troubleshooting. Recently, after sitting for a lot of the winter, it's developed a ticking when running, so I'd love to see a video on how you address that type of issue.

Have you checked or changed your oil. These engines have a very specific time frame based on usage on when you should change your oil, the type of oil and how much as diesel typically consumes oil overtime. Their is a MBE 900 owners manual pdf on Google. Very worth a read.
@cs-vk4rn Жыл бұрын
@@trusted_traveler I do have that manual (I believe the same one - The maintenance manual as well as chassis operator). The bus was underused during it's career, with just 44,000~ mi and it's a 2005. I have changed the oil and oil filter, which improved but did not fix the tapping/ticking.

Is it also 36mm socket for fuel and centrifuge filter? Also what is the key for oil pan drain plug? You said synthetic. What oil did you use? I thought best is 15w40 semi-synthetic like Delvac 1300 for this older engine. But if you used full synthetic which weight and brand you used?
@calebyers2382 Жыл бұрын
what kind of oil? depends on region?? seeing anywhere from 5w-40 to 15w-40
@trusted_traveler Жыл бұрын
According to the engine manufacturer pdf. Oil should be changed at operating temperature of at least 180.
@sojournersway Жыл бұрын
That’s fine. You can do that. Changing oil when hot is great.

What about fuel filter replacement? And Oil/Water Separator replacement? Any experience with this maintenance? If yes, do you use the J47912 fuel system primer when doing this service?

I’ll do videos on those later. I changes the fuel filters already and didn’t need a primer to get it running!

@@sojournersway good to know. I'll buy 8 gallons instead of 7 when I go to do my oil change in the next month or so. I have the driver and maintenance manuals that I DLed a PDF for, but I haven't been able to find a shop manual (with the more specific details) yet.

@@sunstirade1085 I always reference the MBE 900 owners manual pdf. It's right on Google. It gives you every instance of issues and how to solve it. In your case I would check over the fuel water separator, oil level, air box and battery life. Make sure you have at least 14V as it takes a lot of energy to rotate the engine.

@@trusted_travelerhorrible based on his reading not owning. If maintained properly this engine in medium duty trucks can do million miles. Good luck getting million out of C7 or maxforce.
