You should! The original Tak trilogy has a small but great speedrun community in fact Tak 3 was built for speedrunning (Tak the Great Juju Challenge) you should give them a try!

Great video. I’ve been apart of the Tak speedrunning scene for a long time and it’s great to see this game get some coverage, considering how little this franchise is talked about, led alone its speedruns. I’ve primarily ran the 3rd game in the series (The Great Juju Challenge) and its a low key really good speedrun. It’s more linear than Tak 1 but it is fast paced and filled to the brim with numerous exploits and big skips. I would definitely recommend checking out the run if you haven’t already, as well as the runs for the other Tak games.

@PlaceholderMan Жыл бұрын
I ruined a save file and softlocked myself out of completion in the area at 13:30 because a monkey got stuck between trees. I think it was because I got impatient or bored and shot it while it was traveling between trees, and so it just started looping its running animation while standing in place. I left the level and came back, hoping that would fix it, but found out that bafflingly, the game had saved the monkey's precise position, rather than what tree it was supposed to be standing next to. After seeing the throw hover trick, maybe I'll return to my save file and try to complete it after all.
@PikminWarrior454 Жыл бұрын
I did something similar, I got 2 monkeys perpetually throwing coconuts at each other, and it reached the point where they both had so many throws queued up that they machine gunned me down as soon as I tried to pass and killed me in less than a second, then went straight back to attacking each other. This game precisely saves a weirdly massive number of object states, that's probably why a save file takes up so much memory card space.

I have only ever played Tak and the Staff of Dreams and Tak and the Great Juju Challenge. I didn't appreciate the fact that TatSoD just continues the plot straight over from this game. That's awesome! I also love seeing some of the Jujus I remember from my childhood (mostly the green girl and the bones guy) in this game. I need to play this.
@DELTARYZ Жыл бұрын
I don't really know anything about GJC, but I know that SoD was much more linear than the first game & much more rushed in development. The original game is a proper open 3D platformer where you have to explore and discover stuff, and new pathways will open up in old levels. It was a great game to play as a kid, the weirdness and vibes were super immersive and made an impact on my impressionable young brain i don't remember the gameplay so much as i remember the powerful feelings i had while playing it just, captivated by the world and exploration and vibes, some weird sense of wonder mixed with danger and fear that I probably wouldn't be able to feel towards a game today. I don't remember another game that nailed that feeling as consistently as Tak 1 did for me. I probably would have HATED Tak 2 if I played it shortly after the first.
@HellsChef45 Жыл бұрын
@@DELTARYZ I had Tak 2 growing up, and didn't play the first Tak til after I played Tak 3, and I cannot go back to the first game, to me the sequels are just so much better. @@skoottietv I have a strong nostalgic connection to this game, but I don't think I actually put much playtime into it & I haven't re-played it since. I don't really remember the layout of any of the levels, and that's normally something I am extremely good at remembering with most games. But I vividly remember the way I felt while playing it. It was powerful, deeply immersive, created a rich vibe that was unlike anything else I played Something about the soundtrack, the vibes, the FEEL of this game was powerful for my impressionable young brain my memories are super fuzzy, i couldn't really speak to the objective quality of the game as a 3D platformer I want to say kid me got stuck in a lot of different places - and I was usually pretty good at this kind of game but in a way that only further contributes to the particular way i feel about this game, the sense of wonder it created

I had no idea this franchise started as a video game. All I remembered of it was that weird cartoon based off of it on Nick that heavily disturbed me as a child. Looks like a fun game though. Hopefully more people pick it up and run it.

The show was... awful, uncomfortable, uncanny, just an absolute fever dream that is an insult to the game it's inspired by. The original game, on the other hand, left a significant impact on my impressionable young brain. There's something about the way its exploration and backtracking works, the vibes and sense of wonder it created the soundtrack and weird visuals were just so deeply immersive and unlike anything else i played I don't even remember the mechanics or levels particularly vividly, just... the way I felt while playing it. I worry that re-playing it now might spoil its magic, maybe this is just rose-tinted glasses, but I usually seem to agree with kid me's opinions & it definitely inspired some pretty powerful feelings inside me so I definitely wish it got more attention than it does.

SRE originally had you throw hover aaalll the way up. The tiki skip for Numa Dunes can also crash the game if performed wrong. Yeah, I'm presuming you meant the Moonstone in Mt. Top North, Dark Temple is the final boss area. Since its not brought up, mana conservation is important because Crazy Feet costs 1 mana per second of use. Crazy Feet make go fast. More go fast means more mana use. Finally, it's "tul-ay-loc" not "tay-loc." It is a pretty hard name to be fair, that's why the show changed it.

Wouldn't call this the strangest, though definitely one of the wackiest. And it's cool to see more coverage on this game, too. I do love the art and atmosphere of a number of locations. Music is a big part of that, so: to anyone reading this, i VERY much recommend checking out the OST to all three games (this one, Staff of Dreams and Great Juju Challenge. Though 1 and 2 more than 3.) There's another 3D platformer-style game out there that speedrunners seem to be decently fond of, by name of Kya: Dark Lineage. Would love to see that one get more coverage as well. And simply for more players to experience it. It does a lot and does it quite well, such as skydiving, wind riding, board sliding, animal riding, and rather in-depth 3D combat that i've heard people say is akin to Tekken. It's not the most *mechanically* robust, and i think that's part of why speedrunners like it. Still, i'd say it's a fun time that would benefit from a second chance to do more with its potential.

Great job explaining how the Tak speedrun works! This IP was always underrated and it's a shame. They made this a game as well as a show, I remember Nick kept advertising the show and they really wanted this to be the big new IP, they must've invested a lot of money into making the show. The show looked great on a technical level because it used 3D animation but in a time where the graphics looked nicer compared to the original 3D shows like Reboot (Tak had some really interesting character designs), but I remember the plot of the show being bland. The game was a fun platformer though, I enjoyed playing weird games like this and Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, an even stranger platformer if you can believe it or not.
@rinna6575 Жыл бұрын
The show was actually meant to start airing around the same time as the first game and be a more direct tie-in to the games' story, but it got stuck in development hell and didn't release until it had largely fallen out of relevancy and barely had anything to do with the actual games.

Remember the original games and forget the show lol the show is what ruined the franchise different universe lore and even voice actors but you should play Tak and the Power of Juju Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams and Tak the Great Juju Challenge some of the best 3D platformers ever made in my opinion amazing gameplay stories music characters writing and voice acting and personality!

Tak was the first Nickelodeon game character the trilogy’s debut was in 2003 a year later we got a sequel Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams and finally we got Tak 3 in 2005. The Tak from the Nicktoons game wasn’t the original Tak unfortunately different universe lore and voice actor, you should try playing the original trilogy on GameCube or PS2 :)

Tak and the Power of Juju Tak 2 the Staff of Dreams and Tak the Great Juju Challenge was my childhood too! THQNordic actually promised fans a remake of the trilogy let’s hope we get an official announcement soon! Because the original Tak trilogy needs to be on all modern platforms there so good! :)

I love watching speedrun videos because the whole video im like: I like your funny wordsa magic man. Also, is Tak supposed to take place in Center/South America? because Tlaloc is straight the name of an Aztec deity and Jibolba sounds really similar to Xibalba
