I love how nonchalant Skoottie is when summarizing the wild ass story haha

Chibi Robo was such a great but spooky memory from my childhood. The ambiguity as to what is alive VS inanimate, toys coming to life while the humans sleep, a secret world of ceiling beams and mouse holes etc that the humans don't know about, interconnected storylines of the different toys as they live in secret, a shut-off big version of yourself that you discover hidden in the basement (as you wonder if the family sees you as replaceable), and meeting creepy extraterrestrials by following the hint of the daughter being brainwashed by them! I know many people found Chibi Robo to be mostly a cute and casual game about cleaning up a family's house, but as a kid I found the game to be super immersive, existential, and quite scary. Stumbling upon Giga Robo in the basement was one of the scariest parts. Wondering why a nice family would turn off the last cleaning robot they had for good... Anyways, it was very weird and awesome to see this game blown through so quickly with glitches and strats in this video. I would not have expected the strategies for a game like this to have this much depth. Very cool stuff to see as a speedrun fan. Thanks for the reminder of Chibi Robo and the interesting speedrun strats at the same time!

Masterfully put. I was annoyed that I couldnt put how the game made me feel into words as a kid, but you already did for me. The atmosphere gives off so many feelings that are unique to this game. It has a profound sense of mystery and adventure. It's deeply immersive despite its surface layer appearance... and it even has this sort of.. childlike/playful dread to it? It feels like you're existing within a space that is, but also isn't at the same time. So many unique emotions tied to this game. Your comment allowed me to put a few of them into words.
@hardboiled29876 ай бұрын
@skoottietv Honestly despite it being a kid's game, this game definitely had an impact on my emotionap development. The unique brew of emotional stimuli it makes you experience really stimulated my kid self's smooth brain. Your comment resonates with me in a way I don't entirely understand.
@healthyminds92796 ай бұрын
@@hardboiled2987 Thank you for reminding me about this game by replying to my comment! I definitely agree that the game has a playful dread. The story DOES seem like it exists and doesn't exist at the same time; it feels for the most part like if something went horribly wrong with Chibi Robo and the toys, nobody would ever know. Kinda like a tree that falls in the woods.

I’m proud to say that I learned the sliding trick completely on my own back when I played the game as a kid in the mid-2000s. No online guide, no words from a friend, nothing. I never could figure out exactly how it works and how I could pull it off consistently, though. I’d always just hold forward and then slam the analogue stick down as hard as possible, also always picking up my plug as it never seemed to work when that dragged behind me.

I'm a proud owner of a physical copy of this game. I bought it used from a gamestop for $10 as a kid.
@skoottietv11 ай бұрын
now its what 300? I think just because it sold so poorly
@Zebo1234567811 ай бұрын
@@skoottietv To be fair, my copy isn't in _fantastic_ condition. Whoever the previous owner was didn't treat it that great. It does run though, and I do have the case for it. My copy is probably worth $100. Yeah I think it's because the game sold poorly originally, but garnered a cult following that grew a lot after the game was already well out of production. Now it's one of those rare expensive games.

Wish they'd bring this game back for switch. I loved this game. The ds game wasn't too bad either but it left me wanting the original.

It’s funny to me that speedrunning chibi robo is even an idea. Because the game is so anti-speedrun in its design. Every aspect about the gameplay involves being patient and doing things over and over again

Skoottie is the best. I love watching your videos. The winter is really hard for me. Really stressful time at work, and I just generally feel like I don’t want to do it. Everything’s a drag. I don’t want to sleep, and I don’t want to wake up. It’s like everyday is a self contained hell that I want to escape, but don’t want to go to the next layer. This is weird. I don’t know why I’m saying all this. Honestly, I’m so outwardly fine that I feel like I can’t break the immersion, so I guess I find comfort in you and your audience and I just gotta let it out. I’m luckier than most, still can’t afford a house or even a decent apartment, and I feel this dread every morning and every night and I hear it in my head “what are you even doing.” I think my brains broken. And I’m old. Heading into my mid thirties and every time I feel like I know who I am, I am reminded I don’t. And it’s probably an imbalance of chemicals. But man, I’ve been stuck in a rut. This video made me feel better for a little bit, so thank you for that.
