Inland Skopelos - Ananias-Pefkos Walking Loop
The interior of Skopelos is often overlooked, but offers visitors a break from the crowded beaches and walkers many interesting sights. The walk was done in May while the weather is cooler - even then we set out at 8 am. If you do hike in the Summer, bring plenty of water and start early.
This walk can be found on Wikiloc under the title: “Skopelos - Ananias-Pefkos Walking Loop (Starting at Agios Paraskevi)”
See: www.wikiloc.co...
The route follows old monopatis (trails), dirt tracks, and some short paved stretches. It offers the walker a variety of microclimates in a relatively short distance.
The walk starts above Ananias, a small farming hamlet known as a verdant area on the island, with plum, olive, and other fruit orchards, and a growing number of small vineyards. The trail descends into the Potami Valley (River Valley) and ascends the other side to the Pefkos ridge. Pefkos (Pines) is a charming community of old kalivis (country stone houses) - most of which remain as they were 50 years ago - offering a fascinating look into the past.
The loop also passes a number of small churches including one that hides the ancient walls of the Temple of Athena (see: 03:11 mark in video).
We saw interesting wildlife on the hike (unfortunately, not filmed) including Lago (Jackrabbit) and a family of Kounavi (Stone Martens).
