I think the main problem Dubstep purists fail to point out to mainstream fans (a lot of the time it is because they are inarticulate themselves in explaining the genre they profess so much love for to others), is that mainstream "Dubstep" employs the wobble way too much. Dubstep can have an "organic" feel, meaning that it has the bass as a "tube" which is a type of bass line. it is also supposed to be a "sine" wave giving it a rounded out tone and feel to it and making it feel more natural and "organic".
@Deceitful939 жыл бұрын
grahamyodude Other than the obvious heavy synths, I think the main difference between the two styles is the mood/vibe. This kind is usually more relaxed, dark, or serious whilst the popular kind is more energetic and dance-oriented. Anyway, sine waves don't sound natural to me, since they don't really exist in nature. I do like the warmth they give music though.

I don't argue over what the best style of music is, or what the best video game console is or anything like that because I'm not a child any more. Seriously, if I like Xbox and the guy next to me likes Playstation, or if he likes rock and I like electronic, who cares? Each to their GOD DAMN OWN.

that little piano sound makes the whole song so beautiful and perfect.. i would give a lot if i could show people that dubstep isnt (only) about screaming around and making bass so loud that you cant hear anything else.. its a beautiful genre. but thanks to the music industry it changed so much.. well, but it gives me still hope that this guy wont change his music style :)

Rusko is was right when he was talking about brostep. When Skrillex came out, using Rusko's words, "it sounds like its screaming at you" is a bit uncomfortable & he just happen to overdo it along with other EDM artist. Dubstep just sounds much more soothing to casual listeners where brostep is, well, screaming at you with all the noises lol. Its like Rock & Death Metal. I share both types of music on my iTunes library with few exceptions.

Well, I think you missed my point. I'm not talking about past, I'm talking about the idea of dubstep which hasn't changed in years, given that Skream can still release songs like "Snarled" who are definitely not containing much melody but are being praised for being uncompromisingly dubstep, in contrast to his more melody-oriented works like "Anticipate". This leads me to the conclusion that you can't say that dubstep is more melody-involved than brostep, whatever brostep is. Do you agree?
@digitydutes711 жыл бұрын
Skream's heavy bass-y shit is the best, but Outside The Box is definitely my favorite set by him only because of the variety and flow of the music

@bombshellblonde544 I feel you on that one, i don't know many people that listen to it but the people i do know are close friends of mine. We basically just go back and forth letting each other know of great new artists and tunes lol. I had the same reaction from my sister when i first started listening to it because she listened to more soft rock kind of stuff and she said dubstep gave her headaches if she was around it for a long time lol.

@FourtySven12 жыл бұрын
Im not wrong, i never stated anything about the past. I simply said dubstep is more melodically involved than Bro-step. That also means that Bro-step can include melodies but it wont be so involved so much as dubstep. My comment wasn't about the first, or the original i could care less

And that's what "brostep" is missing, is that dark atmosphere, which i think was the point of dubstep in the first place. Though this is just my own personal preference, inherently one is not "better" than the other.

@DnbDubJunkie I really enjoy listening to his stuff, but music is highly subjective. I know the first time I played dubstep my mom told me it sounded like someone was torturing a computer, and it was the same chill, repetitive, trance-like dubstep in the vein of Skream's stuff. It seems many people don't understand that. I haven't met anybody that likes Skrillex that is unpleasant, but then again, I pretty much stay in my circle of friends.

@DnbDubJunkie Im 17 and hooked to dubstep for not even 1 year and I listen to Skream and Skrillex but Im regarding Skrillex as Brostep or at least another kind of Dubstep. IMO By the way: This one is a beauty =)

Metal influence in dubstep was present already in 2004 by the courtesy of Distance (he used a Sepultura sample in the song "Nomad" if i'm not mistaken). So that's nothing new. In a sense, the collision of metal and dubstep, to me, always seemed inevitable since they were both the darkest types of music around more or less. Also, From First to Last was an emo-band weren't they? Nothing to do with metal nor hardcore punk.

@tenaciousE21912 sir are u...?
@imafuckenduckaddicct12 жыл бұрын
Wrong. The idea of dubstep has never been about melody. The original Loefah/Skream/Digital Mystiks dubstep is defined by sub-bass and snare (or whatever it is called, you know what I mean), actual harmony began in 2005, though. And if you listen really carefully you might also find melodies in your "Brostep" which is, as the big-room-music that it is, basically in need of harmonic parts to unleash the whole power of the counterpoint (->drop) afterwards.
@TheChristyBeamish13 жыл бұрын
@DnbDubJunkie sorry if i read your comment wrong lol, but you do see many people comment on popular videos of skream who think there big by insulting skrillex.
