Love that he uses stock reverb & mixes/ masters in Ableton. It's about how you use it and knowing it inside and out... not fancy new plugins of the month.

Why didn't they ask him what was on the master chain in the grey mixes :(
@twkarp4 жыл бұрын
What a pointless episode this was. Guy even offered to talk about it himself and they proceed to ignore it to instead ask "OMG what is Lady Gaga like" "OMG what is Skrillex like". Is this fucking TMZ or what. Only mix related question in all these 45 minutes was when Dave asked about the panning. Gave this a dislike.

master chains are usually pretty simple. They're not that interesting I would say

Tom and the Grey guys are friends of mine and in our conversations Tom's told me he just puts a limiter or clipper on the master and the rest is done by the way he mixes. Since I adopted the same technique, my mixes have gotten way cleaner and louder. I've been using Pro-L on the "almost clipping" or "clipping" preset for years now because of Tom. Hope this helps.

you use the original green or new shadow hills? Also any preset on there you use for drums or just tweak?

I've missed to talk about technical aspects. It would be great to know if he mixes on headphones or monitors, which models he uses, how he proceeds when working on vocals... This episode has been disappointing :/

I’ve never seen an episode with more generic answers. Unfortunately EDM is full of socially well connected people that dont necessarily need or know how to contribute to the technical aspects of the art.

That’s like saying Elon Musk made all those cars and spaceships himself. It never works like that. It CAN happen in music, but rarely does on the professional level. There’s almost ALWAYS a team behind every major artist.

He goes through phases. When he was super in demand as a producer for others he was still pushing a ton of remixes and originals - this was the era that I think Tom was doing the most. Humble remix to work with Latin artists. I believe skrillex is now doing it all on his own
