SKS Exclusive Bantam Red Alox Knife and a Sticker!

Nice 84mm alox Tobias, they can be handier than one thinks. Several years ago my wife and I went on a 4 day canoe trip out in the remote Canyonlands. When we were at the put-in to the river I realized that I had forgotten to repack the kitchen and rescue knives that I sharpened leaving us with, you guessed it, a Bantam...4 days on the river, camping, food prep, fire, rope rescue management with a Bantam. Since it was Spring break (March) we of course got caught in a snowstorm on the river (6" of cold wet snow in the canoe and everywhere else, lol). It was a bit of a chore but that knife came through, thank heaven it had a can opener 😀 The Bantam has since held a top-notch place on my shelf. I still have that one and a couple from Imperial-Schrade Cutlery unused including the green one. Cool knife. I like the idea of an alox Bantam and I might just get one of those too, I do hope you get some joy out of yours my friend. I can recommend it wholeheartedly for good reason.

You have taught me much about traditional knives. I have a Bantam Alox in silver. Love it, love. The older I get the more I like basic SAKs. One of my other favorites is the "boring" Sentinel with pocket clip, locking blade and one hand opening.

Awesome video Tobias. I hope you're healing quickly. I also own an alox Bantam, but mine is regular alox, not red. Mine also has blade rub like yours does. If I'm not careful, & press on the main blade when closing the combo tool, the combo tool will hit the main blade. I've even had the tip of the main blade hit the combo tool when closing, putting a nick in the edge near the tip.

The cool thin about Swiss Army Knives is usually you can find used ones in excellent condition for a low price. And they are great to toss in a tackle box, glove compartment, or desk drawer in the junk drawer in the kitchen. I have one with me all the time.

I got 17 sak's different types and sizes and from all the junk shops yard sales and flea markets i only found a single alox regardless of color they are impossible to find anywhere, but just so you know mine is red well more of a redish since its old and most of the red is wprn off

I don't find the Alox Bantam boring, but I do find it just a little too thin to be useful. The Cadet is going to be a better solution for most people who feel this way, but I'd much prefer a second blade than the nail file. (Yes, I do know that exists, I've been too lazy to track one down.)

There is an Alox with large & small (and also one with the hawkbill blades from the farmer), but it's in the 91mm range, so personally I feel it kind of takes away from the petite charm. You could always buy a Bantam and remove the opener tools. It's not a massively difficult mod. I did kind of the opposite. I removed the saw from one of the My First Victorinox and added it to a Bantam.

The Pioneer is still made. However, a few years back, the dumped the Pioneer and Cadet from their “Annual Alox Collector’s Series.” Pissed me off as I was collecting Cadets.

The cool thing about SAKs is they truly make a knife for just about every one. I can see how many people would be more than happy with it. I'm probably going to be an enabler but I have to tell you. The Swiss Army Knife Rabbit hole is deep and had has many caves to explore but it is definitely a fun journey.

@@KnifeChatswithTobias Regarding SAK, I’ve got a “Wenger” SAK that has been part of my EDC rotation for probably 20 years. It was only recently that I started paying more attention to them. One of the channels (Baxters Blades, I think) displayed a “Tiger Tinker”. I just had to have it, as I’m a big fan of the Cincinnati Bengals football team. I found it as an exclusive at Red Hill Cutlery, and actually visited the store. I was *stunned* by the many SAK offerings. Victorinox sure has done a good job of making their products appeal to the masses. It’s no longer the simple little red SAK anymore….

I have a standard silver color alox bantam. I call it my silent edc. Always in my wallet. First day I carried, i had to cut cake in the hospital. Yup, you never know when you have to cut cake. And that is the reason people should carry a knive! #rule9 😊

They only make the X model now and that model is too thick for me the pioneer was perfect 😊

Except for a few hundred Swiss Bianco runs in various colors, I believe the Alox version of the Bantam never came with a key ring.

Thanks for the added info. It's funny. I have several dozen different patterns but I'm not that familiar with the Bantam, especially in alox. So I really appreciate your observation.

Actually, while I’m thinking about it, isn’t there a slight bend to the combo tool as well ? I wonder if the combo tool leans towards the blade naturally because of that.

It exists. They used to make it a few decades ago, it was called the Lumberjack, but they discontinued it a long time ago. Then they made it again for Swiss Bianco. And I believe last year, they made it as a group knife for some collector groups.

yeah... had a Bantam Alox... BLADES COLLIDED!!! damaged the cutting edge sent it back post haste used to like SMKW for many years... then they lost my account don't shop there anymore Blade Hq account got hacked had to get my bank involved don't shop there anymore

Kind of shady. KnifeCenter has a red Bantam exclusive as well. KC has had it for years. Seems like someone is false advertising? I would like this knife in a slip or slim pocket organizer for a backup.

Touché 😂. Boring was probably a poor choice. Less useful than I want in my SAKs.
