Audioengine HD6 kind of something missing in the mids. highs and lows a bit accentuated/exaggerated. Audioengine A5+ are less "deep" , but more natural. For me... the Audioengine A5+ are better for a more musical/real experience. so glad you threw a classical music example without the usual compression!!! a breath of fresh air...

Even so, the HD6 is closer to the original source, listen again and compare with the source, the excess of highs in the 5 plus confuses you.

By the sound and A5+ graphs I've seen I think the A5 was an attempt to be neutral, while the HD6 aimed for a more hi-fi sound.

Sound less natural to me..then again.. no way in hell any of us can tell how these sound unless where are there in person. You cant get any real idea over youtube.. videos like this are for ppl who don't know any better about sound..

@@badlilstang you can get an idea of what's going on with the speaker. I've been able to shorten my list of what I want to hear in person or not. And minor differences like among the same manufacturer. E.g edifier s2000pro vs s2000mkiii

2:56 is a great comparison, A5+ is audibly silkier, smoother, more ethereal, whereas the HD6 kinda sounds like a fartbox. Could be the recording, but something is definitely off there, something scooped in the mids. Quite cheap sounding actually. Doubt it's that bad in reality.

I have the A5+ but I need another pair of speakers, I was thinking of getting the HD6 for my workstation PC, and keep the A5+ solely for music for my turn table. But if this video is anything to go by, the A5+ actually sound better. But it'd be so weird to get the same speakers twice. The toslink for the HD6 is awesome as well, added bluetooth functionality, etc. But in the end it's about the sound, and I'm not sure the increase of 40% in price is really worth it.

HD6 sounds better to me but...same problem as the other comparison with the a5-klipsch HD6 have lots of high and sound empty a bit like reverse wiring, at leats in my headphone+pcie soundcard setup btw love "the source track" speakers where can I buy them ? oh wait they are on my head already ! crossfade m100 ftw

@@OldAussieAds I also think he could have spent a bit on noise insulation. My room has way better acoustics because there's foam on 2 walls and the ceiling, and the floor has a thick carpet. Putting acoustic foam behind the speakers did a lot to absorb the back pressure from the drivers.

Yes. They all have subwoofer compatibility, I think all audioengine speakers do.

Anyone who thinks the HD6 is better please reference 5:55, and listen to the transition from the A5+ to the HD6. I mean that honestly sounds bad. Scooped very unnaturally in the mids. Muffled tin sound, just hot garbage. A5+ obviously isn't a bass monster but the detail is there and it sounds quite refined and open. This has to be on the recording. There's no way it sounds that bad.

I am listening through my (flagship) phone, which isn't fair, but I'm guessing that the HD6 has better tweeters/crossovers and internal amplifiers. Just wish one could get the HD6 sans the bluetooth/DAC for less money so you could bring your own. The A5 models offer these options.

imo, the HD6 sounded better in all the tracks except Man on Fire, where the warmth of the A5+ gave the instruments body that was lacking in the HD6's. Personally, I'm more interested in comparing the HD5's and the A5+'s since the HD5's seem like the A5+'s mid's with HD6 treble, which would be combining the strengths of both imo.

A5+ is analogue the HD6 is Digital (high-definition) - I have both; but the pair with the A5+ also has the audioengine S8 subwoolfer. The a5+ w/ S8 absolutely kills it and is such a good combo. HD6 if you are just looking for a pair of speakers (and need TOSLINK - A5+ being analogue doesn't have the toslink port - hd6 does). but A5+ sounds better if you have a analogue preference. i have high quality flacs and this is just my opinion.
