I built a Fretwire kit. Telecaster Deluxe. My experience was VERY GOOD. Neck was perfect. Dead straight, no twist of any kind. Truss rod works perfectly. All components work. The neck and body were matched. Directions were easy to follow. Wiring directions were easy to find and follow online. No problems setting it up. The only thing I changed was the strings. I shielded all the cavities with aluminum tape and checked with a meter. No buzz from dual humbuckers. Although I might choose to upgrade some of the electronics in the future, I am VERY SATISFIED with what I got for $160 plus shipping ($20). Thanks, Fretwire.

Just a word of warning for anyone who gets this kit or any of their single cut kits... Anything meant for a Gibson or Epiphone Les Paul WILL NOT fit this kit. That's pickguards, pickup rings, back covers and even the nut (different string spacing and overall wider nut on Les Paul.) I learned this the hard way by ordering all of these parts online and having to return everything. I have been looking into getting custom ordered parts and will probably make the nut from a blank. The kit itself is great quality though, minus the pots. I got the mahogany and flame maple one with 2 pickups. The neck pickup actually sounds amazing. lol

to be honest, I would probably use the hipshot baby grand bridge/tailpiece instead of a wraparound

Great video! Question for you- if you end up swapping out for better tuners, how deep do you need to drill the holes for the potentially new screw placements? I’ve not had much experience with this type of thing
@RustyGunn73 жыл бұрын
Compare the threaded portion of the screws to an appropriate-sized drill bit, and mark off the length. A piece of masking tape wrapped around the drill will do, or use a sharpie. Drill the hole depth accordingly. That's what I do.

Nothing beyond looks and stains that will be hard to get out.

Hi Tony, hope you are very well! I see you have nice occupation this winter to come... In the same way, Do you know the US e-shop The STRATosphere? They are selling guitars kits, like yours, but from Fender or Gibson. Would like to have your advice on it. Thanks and take care.

Before pounding in the tailpiece stud on Les Pauls, drill a hole for a ground wire and ground it yourself otherwise this will be noisy and sound like garbage. Absolutely inexcusable at any cost..
@owlexifry2 жыл бұрын
i bought this kit and it already had a hole drilled in that spot for the ground wire, maybe you got unlucky.....

Guitar Kits are a good way to make your own custom guitar, but the one big issue is obtaining a good finish, if you have to pay someone to do the spraying it can get expensive. If you have the required facilities and skills, then have a go, i tried and failed wasting a lot of time and money trying to get close to a ready made guitar. The best of luck if you decide to have a go.
@Terry3Gs4 жыл бұрын
not nessicarly .. if you have enough space its easy to do dye (ink, water or even pre mixed stains) & hand rubbed on finishes/sealers.
@FMLGuitars3 жыл бұрын
@@Mr.PhatsVarietyVibesShow those methods are used to finish high end hand built guitars. Pretty sure a quality finish can be achieved that way. I've done several hand rubbed dye and wipe on poly finished myself that turned out amazing. Just a matter of taking your time and thinking thru the process.
@owlexifry3 жыл бұрын
depends how much time and patience you have. don’t need fancy gear to get a good finish
@Barbarapape3 жыл бұрын
@@owlexifry Agreed regarding patience, the end result is entirely dependant on the effort you make. Some people are very good at it, but i am not one of them.
