Some people have amazing genetics. Mindyou a lot of folks with that carribean ancestry seem to have that luck. Seriously, the women in Jamaica seem to age fabulously.

I've rated her as my favourite female singers for years. Forget Adele, Beyonce and all that. Skin has an incredible range. Can go from soft and delicate to loud and raw. Terrific artist and seems like a really nice person.

THIS! Glad I found this video and your post only one day after you made it. Yeah I can't deal with those. What you described, soft and delicate to loud and raw, only a few can achieve. I'm thinking of Stevie Nicks and Miley Cyrus, but they all stand on their own but Skin really went against the current, as a black woman from Jamaican origin doing rock instead of R&B, Soul. In that sense, she reminds me of Grace Jones. She does seem down to earth and kind. She had only nice things to say about her peers. I bet she loves the appreciation. I hope she keeps making music as long as she lives.

i'm only young, i wasn't around when skunk anansie was big!! but they're possibly my favourite band - they're so different from everyone else, very raw and i love the way skin speaks. very real, very articulate, very honest. i definitely wish i was around to experience their prime.

I love this woman. I discovered her and Skunk Anansie way too late. I was 13/14 when they first burst onto the scene and I wish I'd found them then. Truth is, I first heard her on Tony Iommi's first solo album on the track Meat and that was probably '03/'04 at the earliest.

My first "encounter" with Skunk Anansie was sitting in a sandwich shop in Sheffield, having a bite and a coffee in -i think it was ´95 or ´96?. The television in the corner showed some music channel. "Weak" by Skunk ... who? The energy of the song blew my mind. They played a festival in Wiesen (I am Austrian) ~ a year later and I was lucky to be there. I read Skin and the Gang are touring again! -> keeping fingers crossed, they come somewhere near. Now we have 2024. Cass´ bass-line on "Twisted - every day hurts" is one of my favourite lines up to this day... Respect for the music and thanks for all those great songs!

I am also a Jamaican raised in Hackney, not too far from Brixton. I remembered seeing Skin and hearing her voice and was just blown away. I Loved Skunk Anansie and what they represented, being like No One Else. That was me through, and through. Soft and can fit in anywhere, yet I can be raw and hard. I now play their songs for my 5-yr old son. He loves the guitar and always asks me to "play the one with guitar Mum!"

This is my very personally TOP-10 of BRIT POP (BRIT ROCK) bands: 1) SUEDE - (Best Brit Pop Band ever!) 2) RADIOHEAD 3) PLACEBO 4) MUSE 5) SKUNK ANANSIE 6) THE VERVE & Richard Ashcroft 7) BLUR 8) COLDPLAY 9) P.J.HARVEY 10) PAUL WELLER P.S.: I've never ever liked OASIS or BEATLES in my life! SKIN is definitely the best FEMALE singer in the BRIT ROCK / Alternative movement ever! On the second place I would put P.J.HARVEY! I should of course mention: Shirley Manson (Garbage) and Dolores O’Riordan (The Cranberries). All other FEMALE singers from bands like: Elastica, Echobelly, Catatonia, Sleeper etc. were not really great, and they were only for the short period of time active.

You should never explain your songs. It’s like trying explain your paintings/art. Let people give it their own meanings.
