I love the way that you tell it like it is. Your obvious knowledge and expertise are so enjoyable to watch. Have you ever considered designing an amp from scratch and putting it into production? Not a huge power monster, just an amp that doesn't do anything bad (distort, flavor, clip, add) between the source to the speakers like most amps do. Unless it is priced like a Bugatti, I would purchase it.

I just created an LLC and plan to sell my own amps soon. The first will be a 12AX7/EL34 ultralinear unit.

:"Gravel as filler"... you're a much kinder spirit than me, Steph! Personally I'd suspect a more weighty reason. :) :)

A bit confused as to use the 3.5 ohm primary you need P1 and SG1 which are the red and white wires primary side. You did not use the white wire. Can you explain? Thank you
@SkunkieDesignsElectronics Жыл бұрын
SG1 is screen grid 1 i.e. ultralinear tap. It's not used on a triode tube. B is the high voltage DC connection, red is the 3.5K plate connection.
@davidhertzberg8300 Жыл бұрын
Ok, thank you for explaining that. Now I understand.

I switched out the willsenton opt for the Hashimoto. Removed all the headphone jack wire as well. Thank you for the vid. Anolog Discovery tests look good. 7w@3%, 4w@2%

Why do you have two different connections to the chassis? Why not take the second chassis connection to share the power connector ground point?
@SkunkieDesignsElectronics Жыл бұрын
I've found it helps reduce noise to not directly attach the signal chassis ground to the earth chassis ground.
It is actually rather tragical that so many well regarded YT "HiFi Influencers" have been cork sniffing and judged the R300 a "Fantastic, magical, unbelievably affordable gem"

@@vespass225 Really? Do they say that about this wibbly wobbly R300? Maybe they've got their other end pointing towards the speakers? Maybe they were paid to give their 'rave' reviews? Maybe their ears aren't as qualified as they thought they were? What other reasons could there be for this BS? Being a damn near short circuit at 15kHz, the O.P.T's in these things are CRAP! It's so disappointing to have this happen. Who could trust ANYTHING these fools say in the future then? Their reputations are SHOT now, all because of ridiculous, FALSE claims made about one particular amp. Or have they done this before? Does the review a piece of equipment gets depend on how much they're paid to do the review? What a bloody disgrace!

The capacitors one for each ch just before going into each audio card they are mounted on the bottom with some sandcast resistors and seem they are part of the power supply. .. the value .0.1 k 250v how many uF is that Steph ?
@SkunkieDesignsElectronics Жыл бұрын
The links I saw looked like 0.1uf but again send me a picture and maybe a schematic, it's just a guess from my google search

Thanks Steph I will try and send pic tomorrow

Hello Skunkie I was hoping you could help understand a capacitor value that is odd ...it is a 53 year old Elna electrolytic used in my Sansui Receiver model 7000 the value says .0.1k 250v
@SkunkieDesignsElectronics Жыл бұрын
Hmm a google search I found this richelectronics.co.uk/product/0-1k250-k4-0-1uf-250v-polyester-axial-capacitor-5-pieces-mbf025e I also saw there is a "K-code?" Where is this cap located. You can contact me at stephe@skunkiedesigns.com with a picture might help.

Would you recommend using these output transformers on a scratch built 300B amplifier?
@SkunkieDesignsElectronics Жыл бұрын
They are nice and are a good value. I do think the ISO Tango are better but also are more $$$
@carlespy7470 Жыл бұрын
These resistors look like the ones you replaced in the first R8 because you didn't trust their quality. Are you going to replace these too?
@SkunkieDesignsElectronics Жыл бұрын
Oh this is the R300 lol. For some reason these aren't shedding their coating and yes, later I will likely be replacing everything when I gut and rewire this amp. Basically at this point this is $1500 for a chassis and tube sockets.

I detest the kind of trickery Willsenton used on the output transformers. Beats puts pot metal into their headphone cups to make them feel weighty.
