I had "Slider" for Game Gear in North America, and it was my favorite game for the Game Gear (tied with Sonic The Hedgehog), and I had like 30 games. I picked it out randomly at Toys R Us when I was 7 years old - never heard of it before in my life, and I spent $30 of my saved birthday money to buy it - I'm glad I picked that one out!!! I have no idea why the developers don't like the Game Gear installment - Slider rocks!!! The whole Skweek franchise rocks!!! Great video, @slopesgameroom! Love this deep dive into an under-appreciated but FANTASTIC video game franchise.

Great review man, thanks for recommending it to me. As I said on twitter, I reviewed Fury of the Furries last year, it's one of my favourite retro games and in my opinion one of the best soundtracks to any game

I discovered this at the time on the Atari ST and Amiga. It was one of the most playable games of the time. The music was amazing and good fun too. Complete Genius,

I loved that game and in Amiga there were two versions. "Skweek" and "Super Skweek" which was a later version and a lot bigger, it even allowed you to build your own levels. I believe the timestamp at 8:17 is from "Super Skweek" and not the original "Skweek" which looked like the PC version

Great job DJ. This is fantastic man. It's such a shame they couldn't leave a version of the cursing skweek in the game that would need a small password or something. Gotta love when devs have some fun like that

Brought back a lot of memories, I used to love Skweek on the Amstrad CPC464 may have to install an emulator and replay some of my faves, Fruity Frank, Chucky Egg, BoulderDash, Dizzy's ect ect :)

easily my favourite Amstrad game, and I'd still rank it as one of my favourite games even now. i actually wind up favouring Amstrad versions of games over any others. Bubble Bobble being the best example. Never knew about the swearing though, did they have a second version released after with it removed? I'm sure if it was in there I'd not have spent so many hours playing 2 player games with my Mum if it had been swearing at us each level.

There was a version of Tiny Skweeks developed by a different developer for the SNES called "The Brainies" which seems to be more well-received. Have you played that one by any chance?

Now I've heard of Fury of the Furries but never got a chance to play and had no idea it was a semi-sequel. I wonder what the original Skweek developer thought of that game. Looks good.

I'm playing the Lynx version of Super Squeek now, and it's a pretty good videogame. I don't care much for the way the character controls, which feels a bit wonky with loose diagonal movements and dead stops. Am I wrong to think it would be better if Squeek was "locked" into grids instead of his more free movements? Maybe I just need to spend more time with it. I also wish the Lynx version had in-game music, but that's a common problem with that system. This is a great video and was very helpful for me to understand the game's history, thanks a lot!

i had never heard of this game before today although i recognized the box art for fury of the furries lol. i need this game in my life now. and i kept thinking that the puzzle gameplay would suit mobiles then you mentioned ios at the end lol. gutted its not on android. hopefully it will be one day. xxx

The developer did actually send me an apk for android however I believe they came into a few licencing issues hence the delay

I have to admit that, I share the same pain you had back then with all games looking the same. Now it is I have been begging for new and unique protagonist of characters in video games, but every single time a game with a new and unique character comes out like yooka-laylee or super Lucky's Tale, it always fails only to have generic characters like hat girl steal the spotlight. This year, I've been extra picky about Games, and I've basically gone from "I would rather not play as a human" to "I absolutely will not play as a human" due to the sheer frustration I have of never seeing a video game I can connect with.

I can't imagine why the devs didn't like the name change from Skweek to Slider. Okay Slider may not be very original, but it sounds a hundred times better and more original than the soundyou make when you squeeze a dog toy. What were they thinking??

Well, I didn't know Skweek had anything to do with Fury of the Furries. I liked that game, there's something I like about solving a level with characters with differing abilities in games like The Lost Vikings and more recently Trine. Am slowly going through your videos, and I've never felt as though it's been time wasted so far. Let the procrastination commence...

Can anyone who has played this game tell me how to tell when the monster traps will be safe to cross over. It seems to be random. The best thing I've tried is killing a monster immediately when it comes out, then crossing, but the thing sometimes STILL eats me.

All you have to do is cross when they're completely open. That's really all there is to it ... the wings of the trap doors have tooth for a reason. :D
