According to 1943 Cairo Declaration and 1945 Potsdam Declaration, Japan agreed to return Taiwan, Penghu Islands and islands that occupied by Japan during World War II in South China Sea to China. In fact all Islands in South China Sea belong to China. Since 1970’s Vietnam, Phillipines illegally occupied some islands in South China Sea. They must be returned to China.

West Philippine sea is just the EEZ near the coast of the country. South China Sea is the sea that has ALWAYS been shared by multiple southeast asian countries and was treated as an international trade route even during the colonial period where even Europe had no records of China ever owning that sea nor anyone living there. The hague ruling concludes that no one owns the sea and that China’s historical claims are not proven to be credible or rather they were not backed by facts.

It's within the 200 nautical miles exclusive economic zone of the PH, and some 900 nautical miles away from China. It's not the entire South China Sea but it's the West PH sea where Filipino fishermen, navy and coastguard are peacefully sailing but China the territory thief continues to harass them and cause very provocative actions. Not just PH, but China has so many territorial disputes with almost all neighboring countries. From Taiwan, Japan, even Hong Kong was forcefully taken by China, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, India, Tibet, Pakistan, Kazakhtan, Mongolia, Russia, etc. China the territory thief needs to be stopped. It keep on talking about regional peace and stability but their actions don't match their words. Actions speak louder than words, China is the one causing regional tension. the PH has been very patient with China, China needs to stop or face the consequences of its actions. Historically, Geographically and legally, China has no claims over the West PH sea and other areas it is claiming. China's claims are as fake as their man made islands built in PH waters. China's claims are as unreliable as their made in CH products.

In the case of the Philippines, we're talking about the 200 - mile exclusive economic zone of the Philippines according to the UNCLOS, not islands. The Chinese coast guard ships are within 125 miles of the Philippines coast, and legally, should really have no basis even being there. But of course, for China, " Might makes Right ".

This is only bringing to light an issue that has been evolving over recent years. One afternoon about 3 years ago, while I was working as a teacher of English in China, my local colleagues were all called to a meeting one afternoon for a new government policy to be unveiled. From a colleague whose spouse had shown it, I saw a map at which they've insisted that their ownership/ control of the South China Sea, went literally up to the shore of surrounding countries, in effect covertly tearing up all international maritime agreements and conventions. Geopolitics is complex. This is not a U.S. war. Any U.S. (or allies) involvement becomes a regional war. The Philippines is in a shaky waters, literally and metaphorically. It has to be careful not to be the next Afghanistan, Syria or Ukraine. All those countries, lost the war, even with the U.S. help.

China has jurisdiction over the South China Sea because China was one of the victorious countries in the Second World War. These islands were previously used as fishing spots by fishermen with no permanent settlements. During the Pacific War, these islands were occupied by the Japanese as supply points. According to the Cairo Declaration, China, as a victorious country, received these islands from the Japanese. The Philippines took advantage of our civil war (1945-present) to send residents to settle these islands, causing China to lose its jurisdiction (civilian facilities have been built on the islands). China can only lay claim to the reefs because the reefs will rise and become islands, and whoever discovers them first will have ownership. That's why China has been occupying them. China will only give up these reefs if the Philippines returns the islands to us.

Tho the president said that if theres any casualty like death among the filipino servicemen thats a different story. Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) will be invoked.
