Sky Sabre: Designed To Shoot Down Stealth Fighters and Hypersonic Missiles
The Sky Sabre refers to a land-based version of the CAMM (Common Anti-Air Modular Missile) series of surface-to-air missiles developed by MBDA UK for the British armed forces. It is a point defense and small area defense missile that can defend against saturation strikes from supersonic anti-ship cruise missiles, fighter jets, and other high-performance targets. The new-generation Sky Sabre SAM, already in service with the Royal Navy, is currently going to protect British Army assets against aerial attacks. The system, which combines surveillance radar, tactical data-links, and missiles, is a much-needed successor to the Rapier Short Range Air Defense (SHORAD) developed during the Cold War. In addition, the Sky Sabre will be able to strike a tennis ball-sized object traveling at the speed of sound with unprecedented speed, accuracy, performance, and target acquisition. The Sky Sabre programme includes three main contractors, namely Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, Saab Group, and MBDA.

Sky sabre couldn't shoot down stealth fighters nor hypersonic missiles. It only has a 25km range. It's a short range point defense system to protect against incoming cruise missiles. Any fighter, stealth or not, can shoot it's missiles from outside it's range.

@@Cartoonman154 You are correct, it's meant mainly for low flying cruise missiles or a barrage of missiles similar to the US/Norwegian NASAMs. Longer range SAMs are meant to take out hypersonic missiles and jets like the SAMP/T

They have had hypersonic missiles since the 70s and in not talking ballistic, google AIM54 it flew on the F14s. "The GBI consists of a 3-stage solid rocket boost vehicle which can place it's payload of an Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle outside the earth's atmosphere. In order to do this the missile must reach an escape velocity of more than 6.9 miles per second. This hypersonic speed is several times what a 7.62mm bullet travels leaving the muzzle of a gun. To put it another way, it reaches a speed of approximately Mach 33."

@Reeebus Twice the speed of sound is not considered as hypersonic in the realm of weapon systems...a system has to exceed MACH 5 to be considered as hypersonic...2X the speed of sound is "supersonic"...so yeah I know what I'm talking about...and the caption states "...Designed to Shoot Down Stealth Fighters...", which it can't, but ... SKY SABER land-based missile defense system. You have misunderstood what they are saying. It can shot down something the size of a Tennis ball. What you see on your radar might be the size of a Tennis ball but actually it is a jet. Which will be brought down buy this missile. Or another missile which also will be brought down buy this. What you see is not always what you get. And if its dangerous it will be destroyed. This has been put on many Frigates and destroyers it's called Sea Ceptor missile system. The same type of missile system but for ships.

While this system can't shoot down hypersonic missiles it's not do to the speed but the range. The S300/400 also travels around mach 4 and can take out BMs which travel at hypersonic speeds... It's all about detection range. Sky Sabres is only 25km. So using a slower hypersonic missiles to prove my point the Zicons top speed is mach 9 right? Converting to KM/S it's top speed is 3km/s. 25km divided by 3km/s is 8.3 seconds, to track and fire as the missile is already moving at top speed in it's terminal phase. Not gonna happen. The S300/400 can start tracking BMs at around 400km giving it 2:22 at max speed without taking into account the time it takes to reach max speed. As stated it's the distance of the radar, not the speed of the missile. If a missile moves at mach 1 but the radar range is 5000km, the missile will know where to be to intercept do to all the time it has to adjust based on range. Shorter the range the better hypersonic missiles do.

@@welshe222 The S300/400 aren't meant to down drones, just like the Patriot failed. While I dislike the Russians, you can't use bias to make a point. Skysabre is a point defense system like NASAMs. It's meant for cruise missiles, which are more challenging then hypersonic missiles(which can not maneuver) as cruise missiles can fly below the radar horizon, meaning no matter how good a radar is the cruise missile can't be seen due to the Earths curvature. This is how the Tomahawks beat the S300/400 already in Syria.
