My Dad died suddenly when I had just turned 15. That was 35 years ago, but Beth Gibbons outstanding voice still gets me through dark times, both then and now. The lyric "I got nobody by my side, and surely that ain't right" has meant different things to me at different points in my life. We should always strive to be better, but sometimes we can't face it....and that's ok too. The dark and the light are summed up in that lyric, depending on which way you interpret it.

I'll always remember the first time I heard Portishead was on the way to Iraq and the dude I was sitting and practically laying on had this song on his mp3 player. Before the ipod came out. Her voice touched a part of my soul I didn't know existed.

I was there in 2007 (with an iPod though) in Basra and regularly look up tracks I listened to back then. Linkin Park and the lost prophets provided the main soundtracks for that tour. Listening takes me right back to that era. Respect from 🇬🇧
