Really enjoyable play though with a lot going on, except for those pesky dice at the vital moment. Another game added to my wish list. Thank you.

Outstanding playthrough demo. Thank you so much, sir. The algorithm randomly got me here and I'm very thankful: my current hobby project is refining a dogfighting RPG system, so this was beyond inspiring.

Thank you for the video and the playthrough. I enjoyed it very much. It looks like interceptor Ace which I enjoyed a few times but in the end the gameplay felt like a ride more than me being in charge. Oddly enough, it seems there are a few more decisions to make in Skyhawk even though the game looks simpler. Again very fun video, I wish you could have played the second missile round.

Player decisions in these games are always fun to explore. Some have lots, some have few, and I think a good question is a deeper one that looks at how meaningful and fun the decisions are. I've played some games where you're making decisions, but there really is one best answer in most cases, or perhaps the decisions really don't matter to the outcome. That fine art of generating meaningful, fun decisions is really tricky. :)

I was a mechanic on 14D tomcats and high performance aircraft ALWAYS break something when they fly. Cool game! Thinking of buying it myself. Charles had the trip A dug in real good.

Interesting, that makes sense, Duncan! Although I hope commercial planes aren't the same way. ;)

Not familiar with civilian aircraft but considering the sheer size I would imagine so. Not to worry though, broken planes still land safe a great majority of the time.

Yes, the designer has used this sort of a system in a few games. His most well known game is probably Target for Today, about bombing over Europe in WW2. Thanks for stopping in, Parkera!

Great content as usual. I got stuck into these emerging narrative games via your hunters (etc.) campaigns. While I'm more partial to subs, this was fun to watch, too. 8:18 Correction to your correction. Unless I'm missing something, yes, the F-6 is wrong, but the intruder in the A-6. The EA-6B is the prowler, which is the electronic warfare version.

Very interesting game! I am looking into getting into Vietnam wargaming both in these types of games and miniature games. My stepfather was a combat medic in Vietnam.
@ZillaBlitz Жыл бұрын
Yes, this has been fun to fly missions with the game. And that's great that you're getting into Vietnam wargaming.~ I had a much older brother who actually flew jets in Vietnam, took a good bit of superficial damage in one of his missions too. Came back with the wings all shot up.

@@ZillaBlitz My stepfather was a combat medic attached to the Marines. He had a very rough time over there. His best friend got his head blown off right in front of him on a patrol and he lost it for a bit. Poor guy never spoke about it. At least they returned when so many didn't.

@@nordicmaelstrom4714 Gosh, I can't imagine. And yeah, my brother never talked about it either. I heard the story of his almost getting shot down from my other brother, but other than that, nothing. I wonder if there is a way to look up military records like that?

@@ZillaBlitz I wouldn't know how to even go about doing that. I would think you would need their service tags and some other information to do that if you even can.

Apparently you can request parts of them, but it seems to be mainly for legal things that you need a reason for. But if the person has been out of the military for 62 years, you can request the whole thing. So yeah, another 5-10 years? www.archives.gov/veterans

Great playthrough; and I have ordered the game over here in the UK. Good points though made by others about the 'regular' opposition...easily remedied with a little thought...and adapting for other possible conflicts..obviously The Falklands would not be difficult. Again, many thanks.

Interesting, especially compared to Target for Tonight. I have to say I am initially put off by the design choice to have each enemy type present at every target in "equal" numbers. I know in T4T you could have waves of zero, few or many aircraft and the same for AAA. Here it seems like every game will play exactly the same except for your support units. But love the counters, the board and the vibe of the game. I heard there is a Thunderchief follow up in Pre Order now.
@ZillaBlitz Жыл бұрын
Yes, the similarity of enemy resistance is a good observation, I think. I talk about it a bit in my review video too (different video). I mean, it's fine the way it is, but I think there is an opportunity to tweak it to make things a bit more unpredictable. Thanks for stopping in!

Not to be picky, BUT, when Hulk was landing you said he eyed the tarmac??? He really should have been eyeing the flight deck! ;-p That's a typo on the one support plane--IntrudDer??? And gotta say they could have made the attack boxes a bit clearer. The 1st box was clearly blue (fuel check) then green (Enemy fire). The SECOND box has a blue section as well, and the word Attack is in there at the top (just because that's where it fell) but I would ASSUME you ATTACK first THEN take enemy fire. But I'm sure you got the rules read correctly and had the enemy fire before your attack. i.e. I would have NO blue section OR better, swap them to green then blue so you always see Enemy Fire is first in that box. Question about that bombing run--can you drop the bombs in 2 loads? So just 6 bombs first drop and come around again for the 2nd 6 bombs, and third run for missiles? Or did it have to be all 12 bombs? Or can you drop bombs AND fire missiles on the same run? Does seem like this would be as fun as B-17 Queen of the Skies with that bit more agency to choose your load-out. And I guess altitude--any die modifiers for being at HIGH altitude? Like small arms bad and maybe even AA less effective?
@ZillaBlitz Жыл бұрын
- I wondered about 'tarmac' as soon as I said it. :) Good to know, thanks! - I think there are a few places where the UI could be tweaked, but it's also quite possible I made some errors in execution. - There are a lot of options for what to take for ordnance and a fair number of restrictions on what can be loaded on each pylon. With the exception of those missiles, though, identical ordnance has to be dropped at once. But we had a LOT of different options for load outs, and a lot depends on target type as well. I built that load out because of the bonus for the 3-bomb racks. A +4 DRM is massive. - Yes, small arms fire can't hit you at high altitude and if you look at that NV fire chart there are some differences in effectiveness of AAA fire at different altitudes. :)
