Thanks brother I really appreciate your reviews and your attention to detail in all the details. I have been quite confused on the price range of katanas . A quick look and a $2000 katana looks exactly the same as a $200 katana but as I watch your videos , I am grateful for all of the details you point out because now I am understanding the price range

Another great review. I was waiting for this since the unboxing. My vote is for the voices and humor. Don't get too sober please, (but don't hurt the liver). I think even your cutting has improved some. Good reminder about lead leg forward. Glad you kept both legs. Keep up the good work!

+Matthew Jensen (Funny Sword Reviews) In this video you compare the Warlord with the Bushido, and that got me wondering. How do you feel it compares with the Bamboo Mat? I know your personal Bamboo Mat has the personal and custom significance to you, but if you had to put the personal factor aside, and compare stock Bamboo Mat vs. Warlord, which sword has more of that special stuff that makes it worth spending your own duckets on?
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
The warlord was sharper than the bamboo mat that much is not subject to debate. The warlord is probably also more balanced in a way that people like. It feels less tip heavy but still not light. The bamboo mat has better quality fittings but the assembly and fit is better on the warlord. Like the ito lining up with the fuchi kashria and the shape of the tsuka was better on the warloard. The warlord is made of folded fancy steel and the bamboo mat is made of hanweis cool proprietary steel, I have no idea what one is better. What I can say is that I am pleased with the way my bamboo mat has held up. I love my bamboo mat, but if I were being objective I would probably pick the skyjiro for the comparative value. The bamboo mat is a better value for me but I would guess the warlord is a better value for others. That said they are slightly different pieces. I would say that more people would like the bushido over the bamboo mat. I just have to acknowledge that its not a blade everyone will love.. LOL

Thanks for the detailed review, Matt. Just a quick question. As for the cutting practitioners, would you recommend any other blades at similar price point? Cheers!
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
This is a nice sword and it cuts well but it is not geared toward competition cutting of tatami. If that is what you are after then you generally want a wider blade that is less thick. Something a bit longer and more tip heavy as well. I don't know if skyjiro makes something like that but I am guessing they do. I have not reviewed it though. What comes to mind is something from Hanwei in the XL geometry..

Good review, nice coverage of fit and finish details to look for when checking out a sword. Might also be good to show cutting plane profile in monouchi area. I do a quick check by putting a straightedge against the ji to see if it has flat grind, ha niku, hira niku; and do on both cutting planes to get general idea of plane symmetry. Also good to see how the shinogi ji is profiled to mune (flat, recede, sticks out).
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
I can do that. Its not a bad idea to show if it has niku. I have been asked to do this before, I have all the tools, I know people find value in it.. but somehow I can't remember to do it before I render the video... and then... I get to lazy to change it LOL. I'll try to get that in a follow up video or start including it in future reviews..

What would you recommend in the same range? Looking to get a quality piece and I've only owned decorative things previously.
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
If you are more focused on a price than a specific piece I would look in the classifieds and on ebay for a good deal. The $500-$800 range has a lot of options but it would not be odd to get a used $1000-$1500 blade for $800. I hope that helps.

If you note the tsuba and recall the photo I sent you of mine you'll see they are identical except for the gold colored highlights. Mine is 30 years old. Is there just a limited production tsuba choices?

Your tsuba did look the same. Good call, I had to go back and look at it again. I bet the casting quality on yours is better.

@haduken15158 жыл бұрын
hey matt would you say that the quality level of the skyjiro is on par with citadel and thiatsuki ?
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
No, the fit and finish level of the citadel is much better. The fittings are nicer, the diamonds are more even, and the blade profile is better on the citadel. The thaitsuki has nicer fittings, and a better profile to the blade, the hada and finishing of the sword are also better but the skyjiro assembled better than the thitsuki. As in the fuchi/kashira lign up with the ito. The koiguchi matchest the fuchi ect.

I have the Ancient iron warrior i was amazed... absolutely shocked to see that the case holds the sword in upside down because As well as all the parts being tight my 2nd sword my first one was all good except being sharp and it fell out the case Skyjiro are most impressive you are saying you couldn't find any problems with your 2nd hand Skyjiro sword as well as finding at least one problem with every other katana you get maybe because you get cheap ones the warlord is one of Skyjiro cheapest the Ancient iron warrior what I have is even cheaper and is flawless not a single flaw I was thinking about a thaisuki nihonto but I saw your review for the so2 with having all kinds of parts loose In the tang

I guess skyjiro has been impressing you lately, they had a bad rap on sword buyers forum, but only from marketing tactics. Theyve seem pretty consistent from your reviews.
@Matthew_Jensen7 жыл бұрын
What kind of marketing stuff did they use that gave people a bad perception? I also got the vibe people were not fans of them on the SBG forum. I thought it was because they come with a higher price tag than many of the other options. I try to call it like I see it. The Skyjiro pieces had some nice things.

Good vid. Wow I have swords in the $100 range that can cut tatami better than that cold steel emperor
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
The emperor was also a second hand sword. I am not sure what the issue was but the sharpness was not great.
@ABEAZYdaRonin948 жыл бұрын
Matthew Jensen Yeah I just don't hear alot of good things about them there either too top heavy or bad quality control issues
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
I will do a review on the cold steel sword eventually. I actually thought I was done with it but things took a positive turn. I got that CS sword second hand, it had a ding, and then I did some cutting with it. The sword was dull enough that I could drag my hand across it with little fear. I contacted CS about it to ask if there was a reason. I had some things about it that I did not like but before I made a video that complained I thought would ask if there was a reason.. The person at CS that I talked to said, it should be sharpened and that they would do it for free. So the blade is on the way there now. We will see how it comes back...

Yes, it seems like only a short time ago I was thanking the 500. I will not lie, the subscriber count is something I look at and that gives me energy.... but it is not why I do this. When you say "Eye Yah" or "Eye-A-Do", do you mean Iai? If so, it is pronounced closer to E~Eye or E-I. The initial pronunciation sounds like how someone would simply say the letter E.
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
I don't know where I got the bad habits in my pronunciation. Perhaps its a colloquialism or something like that.. I am from Minnesota and if we say E Eye Do... it ends up sounding like E Eye Don`CAH Know. Then we just end up making hot dish and playing hockey. I'll try to pronounce it better in the future.
@Darren_Tay8 жыл бұрын
Matthew Jensen I just think you need to swap the I for an E. :)

Matthew Jensen Haha.. NP ~ Btw did you ever had problems with the Kashira. Did you need to have parts remake because the tsunami thickness is thicker than usual Ito and it might have trouble entering the Kashira during tsukmaki?
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
I can't say that I have had a problem with Tsunami but I don't do the wrap on it. I have it done by a professional. I also can't think of a time that I have gone from silk to tsunami on a sword. I usually use it on new tsuka and fuchi/kashira. As far as I know it can be done but I have never done it myself so I can't tell you if it is a struggle or not.

the channel has already taken a sober direction.. less weird voices and less humor. I don't know if I could go all the way to dubstep-rap. This one did not have many "outtakes" so I did something fun with it. It felt ridiculous editing it, so I hope everyone gets a laugh.
