It’s all born out of heartache pain and blood of others. If I remember right they got the high axle units after losing so many vehicles after hurricane sandy from the storm surge. The front line apparatus would basically drown from the high water level and then rescue of civilians would be stopped. Unfortunately like most things it takes a disaster to learn for the future!!!

We used to do 48hrs on then 96 off in Nevada, and for a call back when a strike team was ordered (mostly wild land fires) dispatch had a rotating schedule for who to call. If they called you, you had the choice to decline and no matter what you would not be rotated back for at least six months unless a major disaster occurred. I really liked the 48 on rather than FDNY nine hour shifts. You could go on vacation after shift or most had a second business that they could work. You made a lot of money to retire early off of!

What's the purpose of the hose and nozzle on such a piece? They don't have a pump and any incident they'd go on would probably have multiple other apparatus better equipped to handle any incident needing a hose.

@@robertschultz6922 Wouldn’t it make more sense and take up less space to use water rescue rope? What benefit does a hose have over rope and why doesn’t any other type of water rescue piece use hose? (Not trying to be an asshole here, just genuinely curious).

This is not realy high axle. High axle means, the middle of the wheel is high, so the real free room between the road and the vehicle is significant more free than normal. To make them high you nead bigger wheels. This trucks only have a higher chassis.
