There is 6 High Axle Rigs in the FDNY. They are all 2013 International 4400 with Ferrara bodies. They are activated for Major Rain & Snow Storms. They are staffed with 4 Firefighters & 1 Officer. They are all Swift Water Trained. During in City Operations they are staffed by Rescue & Squad Overtime personnel. These units may be deployed out of state with Deployment Members.
These Vehicles can operate in up to 53 inches of water and over 1 Foot of snow as they have 4x4 capabilities. FDNY Engines & Ladder only have clearance for under 20inches of water.
In City Deployment gets Hugh Axle Truck & Swift Water Pick Up. 2 Firefighters 1 Officer in the High Axle and 2 Firefighters in the Pick Up.
All High Axles have Equipment kept on them in locked compartments.

High Axels & Swift Water Units are usually assigned to these locations. They can activate more then 6 swift water units by using other pick ups & SCUBA support vehicles.

These trucks were 175k each, they will help in evacuations in deeply flooded areas throughout the city. Some areas that they may be used for are in the Rockaways in Queens, City Island, Edgewater Park, Pelham Bay Park, Throgs Neck, Hunts Point, Randalls Island, Coney Island, Floyd Bennett Field, Broad Channel, Howard Beach, Staten Island, All Major Highways.
