"I don't want change for change's sake" is perhaps the most defining sentence to the conservative ideology there could be
@Jopasd2 жыл бұрын
imho, it isn't defining and I think JRM would also disagree. 1st because he already stated earlier that "fundamentally conservative politics is about helping people to lead the lives they want to lead and taking obstacles out of their way" and, 2nd, "no change for change's sake" is a phrase that even the most hardcore leftist agrees with, it's just that leftists tend to think change *is* needed for various reason amounting to unfairness (i.e. some people succeed for no good reason and some people suffer for no good reason). Then a good leftist has ideas and proposes possible solutions. I think JRM's definition of Conservative politics also happens to be wrong because he's actually describing liberalism; a conservative program is more like this: assume that the status quo is decent and then reward perceived decency and punish perceived indecency. This is how they can end up rewarding and standing up for billionaire oligarchs who were charming at a drinks party once and punish the strikers who are peacefully protesting the billionaire oligarch's stingy pay offers which isn't enough to live on.
@bobohare4825 Жыл бұрын
They didn't have any qualms about "changing" our relationship with the EU or "changing" our EU citizenship. There's little that's truly conservative about them at all. Bunch of spivs and ignoramuses. Yuk.

Or even better a more recent variation on a theme by lord Salisbury:" Change? -why change? Are not things bad enough as they are?" I forget who came up with the variation but he hit the nail on the head.

This is an interesting interview. Mogg repeatedly make clear that leaving the customs union was a clear pledge by Sharia May and the Conservative Party. The “deal” this week broke that pledge and thus Mogg sent his letter into the 1922 committee.. He’s a consistent guy. Rock solid.

Peter appears to have recovered from never having his nappy changed by his father. A wonderfully principled man who is, at all times, courteous. I hope he'll take the lead when the time comes.

Does anyone remember having their nappy changed as a baby, let alone who did or did not do it? Unless of course they were very VERY late in being toilet trained.

I suspect the house is nice though. And it speaks to his character that things are more functional than they are 'new'. If it works no need to get rid of it!

The dreadful discrimination against JRM just because he sounds 'posh' is so disappointing. He is intelligent and thoughtful, one of the few British politicians of whom we can be proud. I admire him more every day.

Doesn't agree on equal rights. wants a hard brexit he will personally benefit from as a head of somerset capital managerment whilst pretending brexit is good for the poorest as they can buy cheap things. guy has no integrity he wreaks of the 'establishment' he attempts to shy himself away from. He's more concerned by having his SCM being able to avoid transparency (EU 2019 regulation). Dont be fooled by his charade. He's from the wealthy elite and feels he was born into a position to control and govern over the peasants of England whilst he earns millions in his massive estate avoiding as much tax as he can
