There are thousands of ex infantry soldiers, who have done many many hours of this exact training. And have also did this for real on many occasions. Lots of them/us would gladly, volunteer to be re-trained. And for those that pass training and all other tests and evaluations. Many would happily join as a special armed officer, or civil defence force. It would increase the police copacity as we could even be sent out with an officer. So they can then go single handed. It would also cost very little, as pay would only be paid on duty days. Similar to TA. We know this will never happen. But it would be good if the government did something sensible for once!

Well considering there are over 5000 armed police operations in London alone each year (about 13 per day on average) with over 80% being by ARVs on routine patrol duties, not specialist firearms teams, they will gain experience quickly. By the end of their first year they will have more experience of live ops than most squaddies get their entire career.

I am British and I like the system. We have obviously done something right, we have very low gun deaths and police have killed a very small number of people. Part of the difference is that in Britain guns are on the most part illegal and thus criminals can’t get hold of them, ie police don’t need guns so therefore it is sensible to not equip all officers with guns. It works for us.

What about the sudden increase in knife crime
@YourLittleDeath
@YourLittleDeath 5 жыл бұрын
If in Britain if guns are on the most part illegal I would think that would only stop those who are law-abiding from getting them I would imagine. The fact that they are illegal wouldn't really figure in the thinking of a criminal, assuming of course that criminals could in some way still get access to guns which may indeed be more difficult because of reduced availability on a 'black market' so to speak.

ksztyrix I want an AK-47 and a Desert Eagle .50 AE but I live in the UK and can’t get one but if the gun laws were tighter around handguns and Assault rifles I could but they would be more common leading to more school shootings and other gun violence so we can’t and it means I don’t fear going to school thinking I might get shot and why I don’t wear a Kevlar vest wherever I go because I don’t think someone is going to pull a gun on me but if I lived in America it would be different. It would be polar opposite so the US government should have the same rules as the UK if the US government really does care about its citizens

I don't think that every police officer in the UK needs a gun; they wouldn't accept that. But there needs to be a lot more. In rural areas like mine, if a group of people decided to go on a knife or gun spree, there would not be anyone around to stop them for at least half an hour. Tasers and perhaps handguns need to be a lot more common.

I'm curious to how British Armed police would handle being out on America's streets. Surely, even with their training, the number of shots they would discharge would go up considerably.

Well obviously due to the higher amount of guns, they’d also probably have different ROE due to the different laws and carry laws in the US

The police need to get more ex-forces into their firearms teams, it would beat these muppets that can’t fire 5.56 without hitting the ceiling. Half the stocks aren’t adjusted properly for their draw lengths, and there’s a lack of weapon handling on most of these officers

what I question though is why the police seem to have better rifles than our military, like our military mainly use the l85 which is a carbine rifle and when talking to veterans and soldiers currently in the army they seem to mainly complain about the rifle
@PaddyInf
@PaddyInf 5 жыл бұрын
L85 is not a carbine, it's a bullpup rifle. It has not been manufactured for decades. The requirements for police weapons are different than military, and the SA80 would be unsuitable.

plus theres deaccessions of the L85/SA80 being replaced soon. Think the marines were deciding to change it to the Canadian-made C8 Diemaco although im not too sure.

cintu lator if our police were going out with Glock 17s, Glock 19s and Sig P226s then we’d have a lot more shootings like America and that would lead to more negativity towards the police. Like America The reason these officers exist is for the situations where having an assault rifle is necessary or a handgun is necessary not just because some guy robbed the ATM at Tesco or Sainsbury’s

As with all police equipment, they go out to tender, companies submit their offering and they get tested like police vehicles. It would be highly unlikely that the SA80 would be put forward.

They would keep their rank put would be assigned to a constable position until they have the relevant experience for a supervisory role, they are also entitles to keep the "detective" part as anyone who has completed a course that entitles them to utilize it may do so no matter what unit they are in.
