I just watched a video about how farms and farm land had become a financial tool to avoid taxes that is being abused which is raising the costs and hurting farmers. And that this tax would remove it as a tax loophole and lower the value of farmland which will help farmers. And lower value means most farms will never pay the inheritance tax and pay less taxes in general
@Tommonius23 минут бұрын
that video is wrong. nearly every farm is above the threshold and required to pay 20% Farmers work 7 days a week to break even, they are land rich but cash poor they will be forced to sell up and Blackrock is going to buy it all up A communist government attacking the food supply and private property is nothing new.

A majority of British people stand with our farmers, even Greenpeace stand with our farmers. Say NO to the government and their land grab, say NO to the government on Net Zero, say NO to the government on harming farmers and grannies. Say NO to the government covering our countryside with concrete, mother nature has to be allowed to breathe. The more the countryside is covered with concrete, the less habitat there is for wildlife, our farmers are the custodians of the countryside and the guardians of our food security. Stop building homes on flood plains, stop installing solar panels upon our countryside. Stop destroying our country and culture. God made the farmers, sing the song.

Farmers get a government Cheque annually just for having land. Why should they not pay inheritance tax like the commoner?
@inh415Сағат бұрын
Do your own research. goverments own numbers are a good start. google "Balance sheet analysis and farming performance, England 2023" farms only make between 0.2% and 1% profit of there asset value. so an exceptional £5mil farm might make £50k profit per year. lightly between a couple. the IHT tax on that farm will be all of that proffit for 10 years. Most farms only make half that.

...because it would stop farm production within one generation? Investors in farmland should be taxed but not where smaller, family farms are muti generational, remaining truly productive

I don't agree with inheritance tax at all because the tax has already paid on it. However, i don't see that farmers or anyone should be given any preferential treatment over anyone else. Either get rid of inheritance tax for everyone (the right thing to do) or have the same for everyone.
@clam45972 сағат бұрын
Get rid of inheritance tax for everyone. There's no justification to tax multiple times.
@adamdalziel2 сағат бұрын
@clam4597 yup, i disagree with capital gains tax, vat all of it. Just have one simple income tax for everyone and that's it.

Where were these farmer protests all the times they were harmed by Brexit? A death by a thousand cuts? And then there is dinosaur Clarkson.
@hayesboy24812 сағат бұрын
Clarkson is peeved because he used it as a tax fiddle. It will affect less than 400 farms and they have 10 years to pay it. Why should they be exempt from inheritance tax? Where were these farmers when it was clear that Brexit had shafted them?
