The Schools of Magic were a system invented by the Mages Guild in a try to categorize a bunch of spells that worked in similar ways into one category in order to make understanding and learning them easier. But spells can't be categorized that easily, hence why some spells changed their school over time: Paralyze from Alteration to illusion and back to Alteration, Light from Illusion to Alteration, Soul Trap from Mysticism to Conjuration, etc. It's not a universal system, more like a guide.

For those wondering how to get the Secret of Arcana,you need the following things: Dragonborn DLC 11,250 gold At least level 20 The Secret of Arcana is located at Kolbjorn Barrow just east of Raven Rock. You need to be in the final room of the Nordic dungeon (let me point out that the Black Book:Filament and Filigree has 2 other powers ,one is Secret of Strenght and the last one is Secret of Protection)

Unfortunately you need the Dragonborn DLC to do this version of the glitch. To obtain the power "Secret of Arcana", you have to do the quest "Filament and Filigree", which can be found when mining an excavation site for Ralis on Solstheim. Telekinesis is the spell that is used, and can be purchased when you are level 50 in alteration from the college of Winterhold, or can be found in Labrynthian. Basically just activate the power, hold something, and while keeping the triggers/mouse held down, fast travel to a location far away to give enough time for your alteration to get to 100. You will know if you did this correctly if your level bar is full when you begin fast traveling. Then wait 24 hours to use your power again and make your alteration skill legendary and you're good to repeat!

I think Volkihar doesn't work because the only way you can travel to it is by using a boat. Granted, Solstheim also requires a boat, but it's probably why it doesn't work as the player instead TPs there, while other areas work on a travel system based on normal NPC, horse, or dragon speed. Edit: Looking back on it, it could also be why you need to remove all weight before using the boat, too.

@@karlplessius1300 yeah I used to have a corded Xbox controller cause I was tired of charging the battery, and I just happened to come across this power one day and think to myself “wow, I can finally use telekinesis for longer than 5 seconds.” So I used it to pick up one of neloths things, don’t remember what it was only that I held the spell for longer than a minute and the thing still kept the spell up. Long story short found out about a new *feature* and abused it by wrapping the cord around my controller, and then proceeded to get my alteration to legendary 20. It was quite honestly, the closest equivalent to magic for my child brain.

Fun fact: if you’re casting a spell that behaves similarly to flames, sparks, telekinesis (or any other spell that casts constantly when you hold down the button) and then use the same ability used in this video, you’ll be able to cast it for no magicka cost even after the effect “ends”. Not sure if it works in more recent versions of the game but back on ps3 it was great

Here is a tip: if you are actively casting a spell such as wall of frost when secret of arcana ends, the spell will not consume magika until you stop. However, the spell will still give you experience. This means that you can just activate secret of arcana and hold down the mouse with a focus spell in the magic school you want to level. It is important to note that destruction spells must be cast on creatures to gain experience so I would use it on a essential npc or shadow mere. Also, the higher the magika per second, the faster you will level up.

Man, if you enchant 4 items, with enchantment that reduces mana to cast destruction spells, by 25% each, you get infinite mana. The same can be apply to conjuration spells. You're welcome.

Fun fact: You can also do the similar thing for Destruction skill if you have the Anniversary Edition of Skyrim. You just need the Unbound Storm spell that can be found in Hob's Fall Cave, just cast and hold the spell then quickly open the map and fast travel somewhere far. That's it, no other things required.

The only grinding is for the black book to give the cost-less mana power. So if you’re speed running, like 20-30 minutes from a fresh file. If you want to experience the game like a sane person, than yea, about an hour after and hour.

@@motodog242 Seriously? This character had the entire map uncovered and was level 93. Barring mods or the console, and seeing that his gear is either unenchanted, or really poorly enchanted, that means he's invested hours wandering the map and doing quests (or grinding) at least up to level 50. Even if he used the horse glitch. There are much faster ways to level and max by using enchanting and alchemy.

i used the “long” version if you dont stop using a spell, secret of arcana doesn’t go away (lightning storm/telekinesis), so i would just hold it for several minutes to level up

“100 Alteration in 3 seconds” Doesn’t mention the secret of Arcana power takes at least a week and a half (in game) to get to the black book that has it, where every 3 days you have to go back and clear the crypt until it’s finished, then you also have to clear the black book and in all costs like 11,000 Gold to dig it up, lol. On an in-game technicality, this is still pretty slow as it takes an in-game day, but meta-wise it makes becoming ridiculously OP in Skyrim much faster since it would take whole minutes spamming mass paralysis in a room filled with guards to farm up to 100 (as that takes only several minutes in-game, it is technically better.). Still a very interesting video nonetheless. Hopefully, this glitch isn't patched.
