After the steward finishes his dialog, he will give you the key to the house but doesen't take your money from you. This trick works when buying the decorations too

Hjerim's my favorite house in all of Skyrim, it's so warm, spacious, and grand ☺️ the ONLY thing i hate about it was the tragic bloody murder mess that happened there in the past 💀😣😢 and unpopular opinion here, but i LOVE Windhelm too because of the snowy weather❄️ and the ancient strong Nordic architecture, it's diversity: Argonians, Dark and High Elves, Imperials, Nords, and my Khajiit Dovahkiin (i might also marry a Redguard or Orc wife for even MORE diversity and because I love women from all the other races), that and it's Stormcloak capital 💪💙 Honeyside's my SECOND favorite because it totally feels like you got yourself a nice, cozy, warm cabin home in the woods. the city it's in, Riften gives off the same vibes, usually chill fall weather with pinkish orange skies, leaves falling, the forest surrounding it, and a big, beautiful lake on the side of it. diversity too, yeah there's occasionally annoying thieves there but they're HARDLY a problem and get taken down by the guards and the townspeople pretty quickly. the WORST problems there to me honestly is maven black briar the scumbag and the evil vampires that MIGHT show up at night, but that's in almost any city/town too

@@judestinks have you ever wondered WHY the Argonians aren't allowed in the city? in case you don't know, it's because of safety measures to protect them from the Dunmer inside the city that they have bad blood with because of brutal and tragic past with the Dunmer enslaving and torturing them, and then the Argonians later on retaliated by literally slaughtering many, many Dunmer in a war against them, most likely out of revenge. if they see each other inside Windhelm, there's a decent chance there would be race riots and a bloodbath between them. i do want them to come inside the city, but i don't don't want them to get hurt or worse by the Dunmer, and vice versa for the Dunmer, i don't want them to get hurt or killed either. Besides, there's no other available houses inside the city besides maybe Hjerim (unless you're already living in there) or Calixto's house after you kill him from the Blood on Ice quest, and the Argonians probly don't mind that much living by the docks anyways since it's extremely close to the water and it might remind them somewhat of home back in Black Marsh. i completely agree with my bro Scouts Many-Marshes who works there at the docks when he said "i wish the Argonians, Dark Elves, and Nords in Windhelm all got along better." He doesn't hate the Dark Elves or Nords, he's just *sad* at the situation that's going on there. and about the Dunmer, dude, no offense to them, but they MADE it a 'slum', they also complain because they want to be treated and live like *royalty* like how they probly were in their native province Morrowind (House Telvanni, House Hlaalu for example), but no, it doesn't work like that in Skyrim, if they wanna make a decent living in Skyrim, they gotta work hard and pull their own weight just like everybody else there, no royalty treatment. and that's only TWO Nords that verbally assaulted them (or a certain Dunmer woman to be exact, but she's actually a hypocrite racist herself to the Argonians and probly the Nords too if you read her work journal log and listen to her dialog while hanging out in the New Gnisis cornerclub... she's not quite the "victim" as she seems) , of COURSE i condemn those guys actions but other than those 2 Nords, pretty much everyone else in Windhelm is cool with each other no matter what race they are

For me, Breezehome is all I need. I sell most of what I find and don't really buy anything save for a few things I may need at that moment. I save only the best of what I find and that goes in the chest near the master bedroom. It's small and quaint. Reflects how I live in reality and that makes me happy

The house I really want doesn’t exist….I need it to be brightly colored and festive and have at least 30 mannequins for every set of armor I collect, an entire room full of weapon racks (all brightly colored), a workbench, smelter, forge, enchanting table, and potion table all in the same room….I’m just really fantasizing about this now. Those "dusty dirty rooms" are for when you become thane of the city and you are awarded a housecarl. When you get them the rooms become fixed up.

Yeah I agree. Windhelm (such a cool house also homey) riften. (Small but not to small close to thieves guild. I pimped it out) Markarth just cuz it has a dwarven types style which is unique. Then solitude. It’s really expensive but the pinnacle of “class”. Solitude is also a useful city could be cheaper. Whiterun. Sucked putting it here but it is really small but also really really good for putting random shit in there.

Another way to be able to get Honeyside, the Riften House, is to side with the Imperials in the Civil War, which makes Maven Black Briar Jarl which skips all that questing. Which also could help if Wujeta despawns.

For business, Honey side in Riften is the best. For carefree holidays, Breezehome in Whiterun. For luxury, it has to be Proudspire in Solitude. For resources, Lakeview Manor, as it has a fish hatchery.

just a little fyi, those empty rooms with all that dust and stuff are actually housecarl rooms. i’ve had every house you can get in the same game and also had them multiple times, when you get a house without having to become a Thane you get those rooms with the dust, then when you become a Thane in that Hold the room becomes occupied.

Love these houses but some I’m not sure I want to buy because of where they’re located. Some of these houses are really beautiful but the outside is dark and gloomy, that’s the only thing I like about whiterun breezehome is it’s sunny and lots of kids play there

I mean… it’s Skyrim. Of course it’s gonna be gloomy. It’s usually snowing. Proudspire - Very North but does have kids running around and the Blue Palace. Very secure feeling. Vlindrel - Dwemer. Very Spartan, as they were. Grand interior, but no windows and not much light. Honeyside - Nice and small. Two exits. Nice chicken and garden combo. Kids nearby but not running around. Thieves dying left n’ right. Breezehome - Small and cozy. Light inside. Nostalgic. Opens to a lovely road with kids running around. Hjerim - Large and spacious. Secluded. Cold. (I will agree this one is… less desirable). Quick access to a Fence for Thieves Guild. 😊 Each I think has something to add to the experience of Skyrim.

For the windhelm house.. i don’t think i can get it on my switch version right now.. as the murder questline is bugged out making the guy from the castle that is supposed to help you investigate further actually not come to help you..also you forgot the houses you actually build yourself.. sure it might be a bother to show them all but it is very doable.. the falkreath one is easy to get early on

reset to an older save, try and kill him then leave the city and come back, make sure all previous steps have been completed. come back to it in a couple quests and check to see if it changed they might have fixed it. check your civil war quest side and status as well

actually my 1st house was the one in 3:00 ... I didn't kill my 1st dragon til I was well into my 70's !!!!!!! so that "1st House' was more like my 4th pr 5th house ... but YES most folks would have killed their 1st Dragon early on in the game ... either way I don't like Lidia (or however you call her) sitting in my FAVORITE chair in MY room (ppssstt I mean she HAS her own room)

This is minus the three manors you can build in Morthal, Falkreath or Dawnstar. For Windstad manor (Morthal) you have to go to a place called Movarth's layer after investigating the burned down house and talking to Helgi's ghost. I don't remember Falkreath's quest and I've never done the Dawnstar quest. But you do have to have the Hearthfire DLC that's in game of the year edition or you could probably download it.
