Probably Riften. Besides crime and, i'm assuming, the smell from the sewers, it's located in a nice place geographically, has plenty of markets, inns and niche shops. As well as close proximity to nature with fishing, hot springs, good soil and woods. The nearby villages in the hold don't seem too bad either, and it's always close Cyrodiil and Morrowind. I also heard they're reforming the Dawnguard! Vampire hunters or something. In the old fort near Riften, might consider joining up myself.

I've noticed quite a few mods that make Whiterun look more lush and compact, as if to resemble Cyrodill or something. But I'm pretty sure Bethesda intended Whiterun to resemble Rohan from The Lord of the Rings. First time I stepped into Whiterun and explored Dragon's Reach, it seemed so obvious to me and I will only use mods that honor this. It's fine if other people prefer Whiterun to look more compact and colorful but I disagree that those kind of mods necessarily make Whiterun look "better". Either way, Whiterun feels most like home to me.
@theWelshWizard2 ай бұрын
Now that you mention it, it is a lot like Rohan! I think Whiterun’s size is a happy-medium - not too big and not too small

"How many of us have actually spent quality time in Morthal?" **raises hand** I like exploring the swamp, its weather splits the difference between snowy and coastal, the jarl sells me my favorite Hearthfire property AND she stuck Imperial unlike those sellouts in Dawnstar, I get to root out a vampire infestation and hang out with Lurbuck, it's got its own little mini-lake (or huge pond, if you prefer) that I could theoretically boat on, and I've added at least one resident with a mod of some kind. It's honestly only a nearby mine/smithy short of rustic perfection, for me. Sure, it's definitely no Solitude or Whiterun, but I'd absolutely rank it alongside Falkreath and Riften (albeit because I don't like Riften's interior, only its surroundings).
@BlueLoneWolf5272 ай бұрын
I've always had a liking for the Hearthfire player homes up until they released the CC packs onto the Switch a while back. Now my most favorite is Goldenhills Plantation that (after a teensy bit of ghostbusting) has loads of advantages. While yes, you still need to tediously get materials and gold especially when you're starting a new playthrough in order to upgrade the place, it's still a great starter you basically get for free. You eventually (after a little work) get two farm plots for plants and veggies you can grow for making food or potions, several bits of livestock to get milk and eggs, a stable for your latest steed... plus a bunkhouse for your farmhands and Steward to live in while you're gone. For starting up a fresh game file, just throw a stone over in Riverwood for your steward of choice (slightly faster than getting a decent husband) and every couple of days, you get the farm's proceeds of plus 1000 gold. The inside's pretty great too: both a potion and enchanting table down in the sub-basement past the storeroom, a mini armory and library directly right of the entry, a huge dining area replete with open fireplace AND a baking oven for all your replenishing foodstuff needs; then just head upstairs to the top floor study/master bedroom to horde all of the cool and legendary stuff you find on your adventures like cheap knickknacks. My only issue is how the two different data packs interact with each other over in Solstheim mucks with the assassination plot quest against Neloth, making it so you can't kill his old apprentice. This bug also blocks off the dungeon for the expanded 'find that book' quest so that's a fun way to get stuck. And for some reason, you can't be awarded Severin Manor even when you finish that quest as intended. Bugs that Bethesda's never going to fix, of course. But that's just me. Tangent over, thanks for your time.

@Kopernicus6718 күн бұрын
Helgen. As Bethesda screws a lot of stuff up, that is the most obvious. Why is it that Helgen is the size of a major city, yet doesn't govern anything? Did it have a Jarl? Bethesda could have created an entire questline on rebuilding the city, or at least discovering why Alduin chose it rather than Windhelm or Solitude. Or an expansion, where the city is rebuilt and fought over in the midst of the civil war?

I like Morthal. Sure, it's all swamp. But it has one of my favorite jarl and a wizard that can cure vampirism. And the hearthfire house there is cozy and the weather could be worse. The place also gets much nicer once the vampires are dealt with. Falkreath is also nice. A bit drab maybe, but a comfortable area to live in. Besides that I really like Riften, probably the most colorful area in the game. Markarth is in many ways worse than Riften. The corruption is much less hidden and the local Daedra are nastier. Raven Rock indeed is in a bad position. I rather hang out with Neloth. At least we can talk wizard to wizard.

Smelter, workbench, forge/anvil, tanning rack, arcane enchanter, and alchemist table nearby or close enough to merchants I can sell to. My only issue with Whiterun is that it's highly vulnerable to the fast travel spawns of high level vampires that Dawnguard creates. If you aren't prepared every time you load in, you might start losing valuable vendor NPCs like Adrianne Avenicci. I remember one of my older saves on Skyrim kept getting borked because it was just one spawn after another wiping out at least two or three NPCs every single time I needed to go there, and it was infuriating. With the other cities, the load-in spawn for the DB usually is isolated or well-guarded enough that enemy incursions don't wind up killing half the population.

I used to hate Wildhelm because of how they treated the dark elves. I then realized how much the windhelm dark elves specifically suck. They act like the grey quarter is the Warren or the Rat way. Their slaving history in morrowwind is why the argonians are kept seperate. Without the dark elves i dont think the nords have a problem with the argonians because they dont have a problem with the High Elves that have been fairly successful and in good standing with Windhelm, even though the high elves are the same race as the Thalmor. The dark elves have been there for over 50 years but can't be bothered to help the only city that has a dark elf refuge in a war. Raven Rock Dunmer are survivors, and I think they would look at the windhelm dark elves as whiney and lazy. - Morthal, boring, constantly in danger and ghosts - Winterhold small and uninteresting but it has the college - Windhelm full of racism and Stormcloaks LONG LIVE THE EMPIRE! - Markarth I just don't like it - Raven Rock it's interesting and unique - Dawnstar amazing for roleplay possibilities and it has Erendur - Solitude my least favourite of my favourite city's - Whiterun love this city it's almost perfect - Riften home to the best faction and one of the best houses in the game - Falkreath my favourite city, beautiful, lush, best house in the game. And the best daedric quests

I've got Markarth at 9th because I HATE the visual aesthetic of dwemer architecture. Plus it's in the middle of nowhere. I've got Riften at 8 because everything is so run down. And can you imagine the smell? Stagnant water, fish guts, and unwashed assholes.
