For the wall spells, I use paralyze and drop one of each element on the target, sheath my hands and walk away (: It's a ton of DPS on a target that's not allowed to move, plus, you can also put on any cloak spell and stand near to them and use regular destruction spells Only started doing this because I was told destruction magic falls off and wanted to find a way to stack the damage with a lower levelled character with no weapons My previous character was an illusion mage at first, but I kept feeling bad every time I used a calm spell and the NPCs said stuff like "please don't hurt me again", broke my heart so much I just made a sword and board character ): If you have the Atronach perk in alteration, you can cast Guardian Circle for near infinite mana as well... as long as it procs :P Also, only ever used Equilibrium with a healing spell in my other hand, free mana when you use it like that (:

im a simple mage, i max enchantment then enchant my stuff to reduce the magic cost of destruction and restoration spells to 0, infinite healing and spamming that massive lightning cannon spell.

Goldenhills Plantation has an extra "bonus" not mentioned: it is close to a dragon mound and because of that target of constant dragon attacks. Usually i get attacked by a dragon every two or three times i visit the house. So it is a great source of dragon souls and loot, but unfortunately also a great source of annoyance when You just want to collect Your alchemy stuff and forge a few things

I never use any of the Destruction spells of the highest tier. Because they're AOE, they instantly aggro any friendly NPC nearby and end up ruining the game for me. Wish they actually just hit enemies instead of everybody.

i like how you don't rank these in a vacuum. i've seen ranking videos by other people for different games and some of them don't mention or consider synergies or buffs with other items, game mechanics, abilities, etc

Lightning storm - a constant hitscan stunlock wth a decent damage and mana damage. By the way, detect dead is really useful to search for enemy corpses after the fight. Harmony is also amazing to grind levels - just use it at the center of a market

Personally, I prefer standard Paralyze over the Mass version. Faster, cheaper (bit less than half the cost), easier to access (it's Expert not Master) and you can more specifically target the foe you want. Mass Paralyze is only useful in specific situations. Mass Paralysis is overpowered in a general sense, but in the same way that bazooka is; useful if you absolutely need to deal with a large group [that is in spitting distance]. It's too unwieldy and indiscriminate to be the preferred option usually, I think. Dragonhide makes sense in vanilla, but I have a mod that adds the spell Ocato's Recital, which allows me to select 3 spells that get added at the start of combat, and a -flesh spell is one of my go-tos. Ebonyflesh + Mage Armor Perk maxed out is a solid 300 damage reduction I think. A bit more than half of Dragonhide, so still good, and it costs me no time and effort, so yay for mods and stuff I guess. Huh, seems I've been using the Wall spells wrong. I assumed you were supposed to cast them on the ground, but seems they work really well when cast directly on the target, eh?

Waking dreams doesnt do the exact same thing as resetting at legendary. Waking dreams doesnt knock your skill back down to 15. You cant use Waking Dreams to gain levels past 81, but it saves you from having to level a skill all the way back up to adjust your character type.

Would you ever considering making a series covering as many mage playstyles for both vanilla and modded Skyrim?

I generally like these rankings. Whiterun is my favorite city, but it’d be better if Breezehome was a tad bigger (I prefer living within the city). Balgruuf is my favorite jarl because he’s willing to take a stand against the Stormcloak rebellion while openly allowing Talos worship. To me that’s how it should me, and it’s always how I approach my player’s perspective.

This is a great guide but there is a way faster and easier method. Use the fortify restoration loop to make an insane fortify enchanting potion (+ 100000%ish) and then enchant some fortify smithing armour, all of my sets had roughly +102,000% increase to smithing. Then make 2 or 3 iron or hide boots and inprove them at a workbench. You can go from level 15 to 100 in smithing in about 30 seconds using very little resources and sell the gear to merchants for money and boosting your speech level. Then just keep resetting your smithing to 15 and repeat the cycle, so easy. Doesn't work with the unofficial patch either as far as I'm aware.

The arch-mage robes may be op but nothing compares to enchanting a ring,chest piece,gauntlets and necklace with destruction costs 25% less

It's crazy how people are still making Skyrim contents despite the game has been out for over a decade

The big issue with magic in vanilla Skyrim is Destruction is pretty much useless for damage at high difficulties. Without the Summermyst mod to add the amplify destruction enchantment, you top out at Lightning Storm being the strongest spell in the game for outright killing things, and it only sits at a little over 100 damage a second. It's better to just spam healing spells, summons, or abuse the most overpowered magic in the game, illusion, to cheese everything and functionally render nearly anything in the game passive.

Heres an interesting fact about courage spells if you cast them on animals like deer rabbits basically anything that runs away from you they will instead try to rush you. It is a cheap way to ensure your prey doesn't escape.
