Skyrim Special and Anniversary edition for the Switch was something else for sure. It suffers from a lot of drawbacks, like with the hardware it's running on, but it does manage to do... one thing right? If anything at all.

I've owned a few different copies of Skyrim, but the first time I actually beat all of the main quests was on the Switch. Last year I bought a Steam Deck just so I could play handheld modded Skyrim, I spent hours and hours on Nexus, watching KZbin vids of various quality and usefulness getting things to work, and then after I finally got it to work, they updated the PC game late last year, breaking most of the mods (unless you were willing to jump through hours of hoops to get it working after every update), so I at that point, I was done. I still find myself playing the vanilla version on the Switch though, mostly on my Switch lite (I have 3 Switches now, I keep finding them cheap)

The A, B, X, and Y buttons have been in that layout since the Super Nintendo, back in 1990. It was an evolution of the NES controller's layout where the A button was on the right, and B button was on the left, back in 1985. The only real early defiance came from Sega when they released the Genesis in 1989, after seeing Nintendo's upcoming Super Famicom / SNES controller with 4 face buttons; Sega released a controller with 6 face buttons, A, B, C, X, Y, and Z. And after challenging the Nintendo Entertainment System with their Sega Master System, Sega saw the early designs for controllers, and simply inverted the layout that Nintendo had made popular, putting A on the left instead of the right. Nintendo has stuck to their layout longer than most gamers have been alive, and even though it's clearly not the choice of most people, they were never the weird ones, but rather, were the only ones sticking to the format that they themselves popularized. You hate it, I hate it, basically everyone who plays on anything not made by Nintendo hates it... but that's how it was at the dawn of modern gaming, and they've adhered to it. Everyone else deviated from it, and were the weird ones.
@kyongu375Ай бұрын

With Witcher 3, its all the short stories, with Breath of the Wild it is the sandbox elements, the massive scope of the adventure, and its got a "story" in how you experience the world. Skyrim, I'm struggling to find a thread.

Before my one back disc broke apart n had fragments laying in my spine n my l5-s1 was completely pinched against the spine, I liked playing on tv. But now can’t sit for more than a hour or 2 before having to quit a game, even after surgery.. That’s the reason I got the Oled and don’t regret it. Or waking up at 2-3am bored can’t sleep it’s nice just playing handheld. I’m definitely grabbing Dark Souls sometime. BOTW on handheld is great. The game was the first Nintendo game to actually amaze me.

When the game first released I had an Xbox 360, but was in the middle of a break up and did not keep the console. In 2022 I bought myself a switch and after binging Zelda, Skyrim was the next thing I grabbed! So much fun! Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of hours piled into it. With nothing to compare it I don’t know about performance or visual differences from other consoles but I do know I enjoyed the game

I’m not sure why, but I feel so much more immersed in the game having it on the switch. I mean I have the pc version with all the immersive mods, but that makes it feel like a different game. I got sucked in when I played it on the switch. Might be the nostalgia of playing my gameboy as a kid in the back seat.

Dunno how but going back to the oft compared Kingdoms of Amalur brought me here! I only have Skyrim on Switch so I know nothing about the other versions.. My main gripe is having it digitally is a memory eater

I love collecting rare weapons and armors in Skyrim/Fallout games. The completionist in me needed this version for the simple fact that they added the Master Sword and Hylian Shield as well as the BOTW outfit to this version of the game. Being the fourth and not even final time I’ve purchased this game I still put in over 100 hours on this version lol

Nintendo didn't swap A and B. Microsoft did. and Sony has the same layout as nintendo, but outside of japan they decided to swap it for some reason. with X being the new O.

I graduated 8 years before it came out. Still playing it on my v2 switch. But the dark areas are completely washed out, so I bought an OLED switch. It looks pretty damn good for 720p.

I actually put like 80 hours into the Switch version even after playing through Skyrim multiple times elsewhere. Lack of mods notwithstanding it's honestly a very good version. Looks like the 360 version, maybe slightly better, but with much better load times, portable, and access to the Anniversary Edition content. It's great

Tbh I think it's one of the best ports on the Switch. It runs pretty well, sometimes crash but the graphics run really well for the switch. No mods but tbh I don't find that much of a problem personally.

This is the only way I have played Skyrim, bought it in June last year and haven’t put it down….. other than when new games or dlc came out on the switch like Pokémon dlc and Mario rpg, Skyrim is almost always being run on it, I know it’s not the best way to play it but I still love it and even bought the anniversary recently and love every second of it

I played Skyrim on Nintendo Switch first. I bought it again for PC because I wanted to experience mods and just overall better graphics. I still love my Switch version. But I only jump back into it if I'm mobile and want to tune out the world for a little while.

Skyrims Nintendo Switch port is probably the best port there is, no mods and all the glitches are still there so you can just enjoy the game without feeling you need for enhancements, it's a 10/10 Port

I have the same relation with the Witcher 3. I own it on several platforms & while having it on pc with the crazy graphical “next gen update” has the game looking gorgeous. Despite all that I still prefer playing on switch. Something about not taking gaming so seriously & on the go allows me to enjoy it much more

His game looks really similar to mine. I’d wager he’s running SMIM, Skyland AIO, LUX, and Rudy ENB for NAT. Or something very similar to that

But yeah the A and B button being reversed was the most annoying thing to get used to it use to PS or Xbox. After playing the switch for games then I started messing up the PlayStation control buttons when going on stream apps.

I used to mod a lot but I found a mod list called Nolvus and my god nothing compares, it is literally the end game modlist currently. I can’t find myself trying anything else. It is extremely demanding but god damn is it an incredible experience. I work long nights and the auto installer was super easy. I love wabbajack mod lists but none of those modlists even compare. Not sponsored just an average gamer that was shocked at what I was playing. I can’t explain it other modlist just feel like content not right for the game somehow. Nolvus just feels right. And when I play vanilla Skyrim I don’t go for the special or anniversary, I play the original one that is now de listed from steam idk but that version just feels like the pure Skyrim version

I played thousands of hours of this on 360 over the years but never on PC because, and you might get what I mean, it’s FEELS better on a console. In my mind it is a game for the tv. Playing this on the switch, it runs better than it ever did on my 360 back in the day, it’s got the CC content with the anniversary pack which is nice and having the chance to play handheld is nice. I don’t dare play this with mods because I don’t want to overwrite the pure feeling of nostalgic joy that this game can deliver but there are small things I wish this game had on switch that would require small mods such as alternate start or some role playing stuff.

You know, I would criticize Nintendo's button layout, but they did four face buttons first, so technically everyone else is backwards, even if the backwards version is what we all prefer now.

The first way I played Skyrim was on the switch. Growing up we didn't have the cash for a new console that could run it, but I got Skyrim on sale for 30 bucks my freshman year of college. I played tons of skyrim on it. Then I got into PC gaming and haven't played much on the switch since. I remember getting the anniversary upgrade to see how well the switch could handle it, and it just ruined it. Load times are significantly longer than before, and it just overall runs worse. Now I play on my steam deck.

Playing the Switch version of Skyrim was as impactful as playing the Borderlands 2 port on the Vita: a massive game with lots to do and hours of fun on the go. The Borderlands was not great at all with a lot of performance issues. But I put a lot of time into both games and enjoyed it. Skyrim did not come with any of the Creation dlc at launch. A 2-3GB update came through recently which included every Creation dlc and is now part of the game.
