Not a complain, just a clarification. Luigi's mansion Hidden mansion rework isn't an exclusive of the 3ds remaster, but it's actually from the original PAL version. While the game got released on November 2001 in the US, it got realease WAY later in the EU (May 2002), probably due to a rework of the hidden mansion to make it an actual New Game+. Great video btw, really enjoyed it!

FYI, Project Restoration is a mod for Majora's Mask that patches and undo's a lot of changes made to the 3D port, bringing it more inline with the N64 release, while keeping what made the 3DS release good.

Yeah I feel the colors used in the 3ds version needs changed. I feel some of the original games in game artstyle helps the atmosphere and sets the mood compared to the fantastiful artwork of the 3ds version

t​@@PostLagoneThat's not true. The 3DS version is developed by grezzo. None of the original staff of Majora's Mask were involved with the remake. The original went for more realistic lighting, backgrounds, and overall design. They went so far in fact that they implemented a feature that gives each new save a different randomly generated set of stars in the night sky. All of this is lost in the 3DS remake and the game goes for a more tim burtonesqe cartoonish style. Personally it completely ruins the game for me even with the patch.

09:05 Forgot to mention over-the-shoulder aiming that's still exclusive to the 3DS, even counting mods for the PC version of the Master Collection. If/once that gets ported over/remade for the Master Collection, that would be the definitive edition of MGS3.

Awesome video was nice seeing appreciation for these remakes. 2 games I played somewhat recently for 3DS that were from other consoles but not developed by Nintendo; Soul Hackers (originally a Japan only Sega Saturn title I believe) has so many quality of life feature including a good amount of voice acting. Dragon Quest 8 being the other one whilst the game isn't as good looking as the 2004 PS2 release it got upgraded to have full voice acting, 2 new party members, fast forwarding, a better save system imo and a whole new ending. So glad to see appreciation for this system heres hoping we see all these versions of games in the future in some form on other systems. All the best.

Eh, I'd argue the remake isn't as high effort as people claim. Frame rate is shit and unoptimized, ghost effects look worse than even in Luigi's Mansion 2, there's animations that are completely absent from the game like Luigi reacting to lightning strikes, and the c stick/circle pad pro is broken and unusable in the game even on emulators. It's a very bad remake. LM2 port isn't just "upscaled." They're going back and adding high definition textures which is what they should do if they rerelease 1 again.

@@HarakiriFellatio-cl9jg fair, I think that can all be blamed on the hardware tho rather than the game itself, the biggest problem with lm3ds is the fact it's on the 3ds, a system that clearly can't handle it, very similar to mario 64 ds, a great remake hindered by the hardware it's on As for lm2hd, sure some things look nicer but there's no new content to justify playing it over the original, especially at £50/$60, the game comes out soon and we've barley been shown anything, not even a co op mode for the main campaign

@@Cal_03 Being on 3DS isn't really an excuse considering Dark Moon does far more with special effects, dust and lightning and runs at a stable frame rate. (Then you have games by third parties like Resident Evil Revelations and Monster Hunter 3 that run at good fps and are far more graphically demanding) The game's flaws come from it being rushed out to release in 2018. I'm sure if Greezo was given more time like they were with OOT and Majora's Mask the game would've been fine. Nintendo is at fault for not pushing any quality control. They showed the game struggling to run at 15 fps co op in the direct with 0 shame and didn't respond to backlash or release an update to fix the games control bugs. It was a cash grab to milk what was left of the 3DS audience. I agree with you on Luigi's Mansion 2 not really being worth it. It should be $40 instead of $60 but it'll still likely sale so from a financial perspective it doesn't matter I guess.

Lets see: 1-I tried DK 3D but it was hard af, so I wanted to save it to play with someone 2-Loogis mansion is a game I still have to play 3-Starfox was awesome…on N64, i havent played it on 3DS, so my only memories are trying to play Starfox on wii virtual console and repeatedly losing on the lava planet 4-Xenoblade was awesome after but AFAIIK it didnt change much 5-MGS is a series I havent played, but I do have a lot of memories of playing the MGS3 3D demo many MANY times

Im regards to MGS 3DS, the improvements go further, starting with graphics, all of the character models got updated and added a normal map to add level of detail that the original didn’t had, while the map did get a bit nerfed in the level of detail in the foliage. In the gameplay department is where it gets crazy compare to the original, first of all, yes, you get crouch walking, but also, third person aiming, the ability to walk an shoot WHILE aiming (this wasn’t implemented until MGS 4) visual feedback when shooting, gyro aim, and if you felt that aiming with the face buttons like in peace walker felt weird, support for dual analog add on. Playing this Ver. and then coming back to the original just feels wrong gameplay wise. As a final note, this Version feels more easy than the original, just because this control changes make the game snappier and intuitive compared to the OG version or the HD one. The only thing that ruined this port to be better remember is the frame rate, is terrible, let’s not lie to ourselves here.

if/when they do remaster ocarina of time, they should not only fix the lighting, but something ive never seen anyone mention; the timing. certain cutscenes and animations in the game play either too slow or too quickly. for instance, link's walk animation is too sluggish. however, the lack of lag in the 3ds version wasn't taken into account when it came to cutscenes, so the part where ganondorf transforms into ganon at the end loses a lot of it's impact not just because of the lighting, but because it plays too quickly. you're not given enough time to be impacted as much by his transformation. they just need to slow the animation down and darken the lighting

The MGS3 remake is funny because the OOT-tier framecap comes from it being built in the Peace Walker engine. Of course, that only makes it worse argubly because having performance issues in a game that targets PSP on as low as 20 FPS is...not great. Also, MM3D really needed that original-mode from Starfox 3D, even if it (sadly) would have disabled Gyro. It is a good release, but it isn't really any better than the original overall. Some say that having a diffrent, equally as good experience is actually better, but...man, I really would have liked it to just be the definitive version instead.

I know the compression was a part of the system limitations of the time but it made sense for the voices because if you think of how your voice sounds going through a walkie-talkie two-way radio it's not going to sound studio crystal clear like it would be recorded over an sm58 so yeah that kind of knocked a bit on the charm of Star Fox 64 remastered

The Hidden Mansion in Luigi's Mansion on 3DS is actually a lot more like the PAL (European) Gamecube version's Hidden Mansion...except in the PAL Gamecube version, it was flipped, much like Mario Kart Mirror Mode. Not to mention they just changed around a couple other things like Mario's item locations in the 3DS remake's Hidden Mansion for whatever reason. Also I feel like with Starfox 64 3D, the voice lines just don't quite hit as well as N64 not because of the compression of 64, but just because it's how the original voice actors delivered their lines. There are uncompressed voice lines from 64 floating around the internet, and they just put up some iconic performances, but it seems like the 3D voice actors weren't trying nearly as hard.

It really blew my mind that a lot of games of the 3DS were ported to the Wii U ( Hyrule Warriors, Smash 4, etc ), the Wii U being Nintendo's first HD console, and instead of releasing OoT remake on it, they released it on handheld with a lot of compromises instead I really think OoT HD remake on the Wii U would have singlehandedly saved the console

I'd say that the imrprovements in Majora's Mask 3D greatly outweigh any downgrades. You still get the changes carried over from Ocarina of Time 3D like the nicer graphics, higher framerate, smoother inventory management, gyro aiming, etc. But also saving is a lot more convinient, the Song of Double Time lets you go to any hour during the day and the Bomber's Notebook is a lot more useful. Those changes are worth any annoyances from Zora swimming. For real this game feels like the biggest example of everyone thinking it's controversial now just because a KZbinr didn't like it. Also, another remaster stuck on 3DS is Dragon Quest VIII. It changes stuff from the PS2 version like adding a new ending, two extra party members, and getting rid of random encounters.

The 3ds has the most recent rerelease of Tales of The Abyss, and also some notable Atlus game are also stuck in there like Soul Hackers, Radiant Historia, the Devil Survivor games (granted Devil survivor and Radiant Historia were originally OG DS games).

2 niche “remasters” so to speak that are also stuck on 3ds are Korg M01D and Korg DSN-12, not sure if anyone played around with these but they were 3ds eshop exclusive Korg modules for music production and they’re pretty neat, there is a Korg gadget on the switch but it’s not the same as DSN-12 or M01D

I think the solution to get 3D Classics Kirby's Dreamland on Switch/whatever comes after the switch is to have Akira make a bunch of other NES game ports and then bundle them all together with the existing 3D classics as one big collection cartridge.

Snake Eater 3D is by far my favourite version. Yes the FPS is rough, but not as bad on New 3DS models. And the best part about it isn't just crouch walking but also Peace Walker's gunplay.

Regarding Majoras 3D, its worth ONLY if you download "Project Restoration" Patch. It fixes 90% of the sh*tty decisions Nintendo made to the remake. If not, use emulator. On Luigi Mansion 3D, I would say is worth it but has some downsides and bad details you didnt mention
