That's why I've always liked the way Majestic Landscapes snow looks. Quite smooth but has a soft icy texture to it.

Depends on the region. Many environmental factors go into the "Texture" of snow. Not only the many factors that go into the formation of snow (Like humidity), but factors such as high winds after snowfall can change how it appears on the ground. In fact there are different types of snow, such as "Powder snow" or "Blizzard snow". This snow at 0:55 looks like a very rough blizzard snow, with small snow dunes visible. This makes some since given the wind also seen in the video. In short though nothing in nature is really 'left alone', there are always environmental factors, such as wind that have an impact. Edit: This looks just like the none snow ground texture to me though, lol.

Living in wisconsin I know this is not always the case. It highly depends on wind and temperature. If the snow never gets a chance to melt and refreeze, it eventually gets blown around in such a way to form small dunes very similar to deserts (though the texture in the timestamp is not what they look like irl). Farmfields in particular end up with extremely abrasive and large dunes over time, but recessed areas like ditches usually have very smooth snow formations for quite some time.

The bigger issue with depth mapping in Skyrim is not so much of the performance cost, but rather, the blending fidelity. Parallax did initially break a lot of meshes and it took awhile before mods like Terrain Parallax Blending Fix came about and dealt with the mesh/seam issues.

sorry if this question has been asked already. why is most people using mod organizer 2 instead of vortex for wabbajack and other mods. is there an advantage or is this like a personal preference? i used nexus mod manager for years and they went to vortex.

MO2 allows you to directly control your load order, lets you mod without touching your base install, had tons of plugins available for it and uses less system space.
