All these chests are inventory chests so most of them belong to kajit traders that go outside cities which is were the chests are most commanly found but the one under whiterun is the inventory chest of the companions smith.

The fourth chest in Whiterun you can get to a much easier way. All you have to do is get a platter, go up to Jorvaskr. On the side of the building opposite the entrance to the Underforge, drop the platter and then hold it up to the wall and sprint toward it until you glitch through the wall and under Jorvaskr. Turn around and walk beneath the Underforge and you'll see the chest just to your right. Not sure if that makes sense but I can't find a video on it.

The First three are khajit chests and you can tell by the skooma and moon sugar in them. They will not spawn if a khajit trader in not in that town. The fourth one is the chest for the black smith in whiterun, and the fifth is the chest for the mage in the blue place. Every store and trader has these, but most are impossible to reach

SO... I found out how to make the khajit merchant chests respawn VERY fast. This worked for me at the dawnstar chest and I'm sure it will work EASIER at the solitude chest. The khajit merchant needs to be open for business in the town where the chest you're looting is for this to work. Go and loot the chest for whatever you want, then go over to the khajit merchant, make a quicksave, then KILL the khajit merchant. Load the quicksave file, talk to the merchant, then go check the chest. It should be refilled. Then repeat.... You can do this to get a shitload of gold, gems, and valuable potions/poisons early in the game and very fast.

I'm not sure if anyone in the comments went in depth about these chests. Each chest is associated with a merchants inventory. Each chest also resets every 48 hours but only if you talk to the corresponding merchant. A good suggestion is to completely buy out the merchant so your speech level goes up. Go to the chest and you can get all of your spent gold back. As a side not the chest in whiterun corresponds with the weapon smith right above it.

you can use a wooden plate the same way as the platter to breach the door in the Ragged Flaggon. You'll fall into a pool of water, and there are 5 (if I recall correctly) chests underwater with various merchant loot. Careful though, the ones marked as stealing will ironically make the thieves upset at you if you're in range (though the first time you steal, they'll just say things like "you could've just asked", and you should be able to unsheath/sheath your weapons if they end up attacking).

Getting to the skyforge chest is easiest if you use a platter. Press a platter against the rock that the skyforge is on and run in to the platter. It works best on flat surfaces and if the bottom of the platter is facing the player (if you manage having the bottom facing you, going through walls is usually very easy and very smooth). I've been doing that ever since I found out that you can use a platter to faze through walls. Also, using platters offers the ability to find the chests in actual stores as well finding the Do Not Delete (skyrims version of the paint brush in oblivion)

yeah it has the a vampire one called Dawn guard where it adds the ability to acquire a crossbow (OP as hell), a DLC called Dragonborn which allows u to tame and ride dragons I believe and probably something else but u forget, and some other weird one where u get to adopt kids and pets for the kids

johny cordero It does. They are the inventories of specific merchants. Some of them you have to save, kill the merchant and reload your save to get the loot to keep respawning. (loot chest, go to merchant it pertains to, save, kill them, and reload) and it will respawn.

11/11/2021 - Anniversary Edition - Solitude Chest - it’s still there but you can’t rely on foliage anymore since Bethesda “updated” the textures. You have to find the “blue stick” on the floor, settle your cursor on the middle of it, look straight down and walk “up”. Chest is still there, just harder to find.

David Crawford you can plate glitch the hall of wolf folks on the very southern side or the wall between two of their arrow targets. You don't have to go nearly as far to get to the chest.

Sky forge chest fun fact, if you get on top of the chest you can farm it, you can get on it by whirlwind sprinting, which may take a few tries, or you can use do not delete chests as a stair case. From there loot it, wait 3 days, and when eorland is using the forge look at him, talk, check shop, leave and loot chest. Repeat. It was really good to do this on Xbox 360 using the sped up wait time exploit, take a bit longer on ps4 and Xbox one

The first 3 chests are from kajhit caravans, The 4th from the blacksmith(don't remember the name) at the skyforge and the 5th from the court mage at the blue palace. For anybody that wanted to know. :D

For the whiterun one (The uploader) did the very long way of doing it, Simply once in whiterun 'at the gates' of whiterun you'd have to go straight till your in the "local" market then go up the stairs till you are at basically the middle of whiterun, Once you have walked up the stairs go left and then the house on your left wall around the house (I cannoy explain the spot as it will be too much to explain detailed as some people are really stupid but oh well) Walk around the house walls till you start walking through the floor and then wiggle yourself till you drop down, Now this is the part where you find a hill and water streaming behind you and a hill to climb, Climb that hill and go past the two "gates/pillar" or alike looking enterance, Go down that hill turn right keep going past that "dome looking cake" then right up the hill near the Whiterun walls keep going right climb the rocky hill climb down it and bam you should see that invisible part of the wall and then done your there, It's the most quickest way too, Also money tip. Once it's your first time collecting the chest you can wait 2 days and speak to Eurlond so his inventory refreshes and loot the chest again this is the best way to gain resources and money, It is also known or evidently said that doing that money tip can gain you 120k in 55 mins and it does seem worth it, I hope this helped and yes I am writing this whilenplaying Skyrim :) Checkout ESO he covers this glitch in the way I have tried to explain bye now

You can also loot stormcloak and imperial camps if you haven't joined either faction. Handy when you first start and need money. The best way to get money is get your alchemy up and make potions. If you can do console commands type coc qasmoke to get to a secret room that has EVERYTHING. Type coc whiterun to exit it.

It's basically glitching to get to the merchant chests. Fun fact they refill over time but one thing to keep in mind is that if you talk to the corresponding merchant for that chest they won't have anything to sell you... unless you left something in that chest. There is a mod for 32 bit skyrim which moves those chests above the map and near the merchant with a master lock on it so you can just steal the items like a respectable theif instead of being a glitcher/cheater

Every merchant in the game does not carry his merchandise on himself ( You would just pickpocket him for it instead of bartering ). Instead the game system deposits all merchandise in containers that are usually in the same cell (room to oversimplify) and near him. Most often below the ground. If you play on PC using the console comman tcl (toggle collision) you can bypass all walls and floor/ceilings. Or if you have access to the Creation kit you can simply see where all merchants have their chests. Now some of these chests are too close to surface and you can glimpse an open container prompt in specific locations/coordinates. But what you basically do is just stealing the merchant and in ways that were not meant to be (pickpocketing, "abusing" speech+items/buffs, breaking and entering -you get the point). Tbh you only need these 2 commands player.additem a 100000 and coc qasmoke. The first command gives you 100k gold (or however much you ask for) and the second teleports you to the room that has 1 copy of each item/magic/enchant in the game. Forget about elusive */cough* merchant chests and cheat the right way. The PC master race way. oh and player.additem f might work. a and f is gold and lockpicks. Can't remember for sure.

the one in whiterun is the inventory for the skyforge, this chest will spawn new items over time. and there is an easier way to get to it, good video tho, I learned of new chests

easier way of doing the whiterun glitch, go to the top of the companions building, onto the "dragon mount" facing the city wall, whirlwind sprint and land on the wall, then scale the wall to find the breach in the barrier, then hop down as he did in the video and grey the chest (s).

The chest under Whiterun is how I get me money. Usually the blacksmith above you will sit at his grinding stone and you can jump up and sell him all his stuff back, keeping what you want. Then you wait 48 hours, he gets all his gold back, the chest refills, and you can just do that endlessly.

For the one in whiterun, if u go behind the companions building and grab the bowl, if X-box hold X if pc idk, and then walk over to the wall right behind the building put the bowl against it and use Whirlwind Spirit then you'll go right through the wall, then do the exact last thing as wat u said to do at the end.

For thr whiterun chest, you can take a platter from the campanions hall, leave the hall, drop the platter and pick it up, if you hold the the platter you can run through one of the windows and get to the chest quicker

The Theive's guild plate glitch is probably the best of the merchant chest glitches because you get 5 or so chests.

For the one in whiterun just bring a large platter where the companions train , where the archery targets are, on the left.

A lot of people don't know this but instead of using that stupid barrel in whiterun, you can simply use a platter on the companions house on just about any window. Saves you a ton of time

Make sure you guys don’t store any items in the chests. You’ll lose them after a few in game hours/days. All the chests reset

You can also jump on the chest in whiterun with whirlwind sprint and talk to the npc as he is on the forge. Then sell all the items in the chest and they will appear back
