In reality, the Thu'um would not have been silenced. The Thu'um isn't magic, as it does not depend on Magicka. Instead, what the Thu'um actually is interfering with the World Song, which forces things straight into reality. Its a reality bending ability that isn't refined. The Dwemer built their cities using a more refined and advanced usage of this concept in nothing more than a single whisper. Their metal was also made in this way, which is why no one can make it. Unless the silencing works on all sounds, the Thu'um could not have been stopped by it.

@@demonpride1975 Vow of Silence does not work on bosses, even though they specifically spell cast. Moonlight Butterfly is a specific example. That being said, the Vow of Silence specifically counteracts magic. The Thu'um isn't related to magic in any way, shape, or form. The Thu'um is sound which Vow of Silence, even in Dark Souls, doesn't cancel out.

@ true, but I wouldn’t say the chosen undead has much life force to absorb I don’t remember if it drains life force from draugr in-game but if it does it shouldn’t lmao (Most of the time when an item ‘drains’ health it really doesn’t, all it does mechanically speaking is damage the enemy then heal you a proportional amount. Like, the Life Drain in Terraria doesn’t drain life, it steadily damages the enemies you’re targeting and gives you a buff that heals 2hp per second; same kinda thing as how the only difference between poison damage and burning damage is that one’s green poison and the other is red poison)

The entire reason the gods of Dark Souls want to prevent the Age of Dark is so humans won't be able to challenge their power. The flame isn't actually necessary for the world to live on, it just gives power to the gods while burning away the Dark Souls, the _true_ souls, of humanity. It makes sense that the Dragonborn, a former prisoner who fought against either an imperialist dictatorship or a fascist terrorist group, would want to end the reign of those gods. From the Dragonborn's perspective, the Chosen Undead is allowing the gods to enslave humanity. From the Undead's perspective, the Last Dragonborn is a Dark Lord trying to prevent their mission to save humanity. Let the First Flame go unlinked. Let true Dark be cast upon the world. You can't keep the fire burning forever. That's my interpretation, anyway.

For those confused about the Elder Scrolls sun, lemme simplify it: The night sky isnt exactly space, but a giant barrier that separates Mundus and Oblivion (The solar system and the rest of space respectively) from Aetherius, the source of magic. Each of those stars arent big balls of plasma, but instead holes to Aetherius, with Magnus, the sun, being the BIGGEST hole!

Knowing the souls community, they'd probably keep going until the Dragonborn doesn't want to live anymore xD Using a variety of meme setups, learning about every frame of every ability and move the Dragonborn has, until he dies. Honestly, take the results with a grain of salt. The chosen undead only hollows if they lose their purpose. It's an open ended fight, but i understand why they made The Dragonborn win. The Dragonborn is way stronger, and the only thing The Chosen undead has is basically immortality.

@@GoatOfWar Suprisingly, if you look at the lore for the Chosen Undead(ds1) he does actually eventually go Hollow. The other two on the other hand, the Monarch from ds2 and Ashen One from ds3, it would be a different story. Despite what others have said, even if we make the Dragonborn an elf, vampire, alchemy, have them extend their life with shouts, and have the help in longevity from the Daedric Princes, the Monarch would eventually win but only because the Dragonborn dies of Natural Causes, because at the end of the game(with the DLCs) the Monarch doesn't ever Hollow(the Flame will still burn their soul to ashe eventually though I guess). The Ashen One however, effectively has a fighting chance not just because of what you mentioned before, but feat-wise they can stand toe to toe with the Dovakin(enough where its hard to say who wins). The Ashen one not just fought and defeated 3 other Lords of Cinder(what the Chosen Undead and the Monarch become after linking the Flame) and one "pair" who was planned to become one themselves(the twin princes), but the very Soul of Cinder itself(which is effectively the accumulation of experience and abilities of every Lord of Cinder ever throughout all of time). Not only that, but the Ashen One also beat the Slave Knight Gael, which basically is analogous to the Soul of Cinder, but for all Undead(due to having consumed every Dark Soul, except for the Ashen One's). If we chose the Lord of Hollows ending for ds3, its even worse because not only do you have the things I mentioned before, but now the Flame lies within the Ashen One and they aren't bound to the Kiln of the First Flame.

Honestly they didnt give Dovahkiin his full power as its really easy to get 100% magic reflect/absorb, 99.4% physical damage immunity, able to hit over 1k damage per swing on fast swinging duel wield swords, mana that regens faster then you could ever hope to use it, ect. . . Skyrim is a power fantasy game with spaghetti code that allows you to become stupidly powerful, Darksouls is a struggle fest skill game where you are always weak but your skill in fighting makes up the strength difference.

To be fair, one being an open sandbox RPG where the main character could be ANYTHING and the other being a strictly battle RPG where the character can only be a battle-[something], it's not very fair. The Chosen Undead cannot abuse Enchantment and Alchemy mechanics, and while I haven't played Dark Souls, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you aren't allowed to pickpocket people in Dark Souls either... Once I learned I could not just max my stats in an Elder Scrolls game, but break the stat caps, without hacking, just by going the Alchemy route... let's just say it's embarrassing when you can be playing a potion-maker and just buff yourself to be strong enough to punch an endgame demigod to death with your bare hands... The term "god" in this kind of debates where one looks at who is stronger is pretty much meaningless. Sure, a character with the title of god sounds strong on paper... Until you realise that god is just a title, not an actual way to measure how strong a character is. Not every god is on the same tier as other gods from other franchises and there are mortals in other pieces of fiction with overall better feats than the so called gods. For example, Kaguya has the title of a goddess. That doesn't make her anywhere close to Beerus who also has the title of a god. There is a clear cut difference as to which one of them is stronger than the other despite both characters being called gods. While I don't know how the Dark Hand works due to never playing Dark Souls, by technicality, while the Dragonborn is physically human he does have the soul of a dragon, so would that even work? And if it did, it would make the Dragonborn more draconic than before, if anything, surely?

@@jameslidster9579 Magic Resistance in Skyrim Resist soul stealing. This can be shown when facing the enemy Seeker, they steal essence through the ghost of their opponents, and magic resistance reduces damage from their drain attacks. And if you got max resistance it basically does no damage. Also if Miraak with the power to just force souls out from dragons while they're alive by shouting didn't steal DB's soul when they fought I doubt some object the Chosen undead received from a character could do it.

That said, you're right about the magic resistance and Miraak's soul stealing power. I suppose they're part of what makes these kinds of death battles interesting, seeing how different powers with similar effects stack up against each other simply because the lore on how they work are different.

But the thing is, the Chosen Undead will keep reviving and trying. We see from Slave Knight Gael that an undead with a purpose strong enough can resist hollowing for as long as it takes for the entire world to be coated miles deep in ashes. The Chosen Undead’s purpose is to link the flame, and if the Dragonborn is the obstacle to that? They will die, over and over, until the Dragonborn makes a mistake or, well, gets old. The Dragonborn is mortal, the fight could go on for literally decades and the Chosen Undead will still be there in one form or another, while the Dragonborn dies of old age.

@@bezel95 Just one teeny tiny issue here. The Dragonborn has been given all his equipment, and the Chosen Undead is too weak to actually, you know... ...damage him. While on paper, it then comes down to the fight lasting until the Dragonborn dies of old age, "all equipment" does give him wincons. Mainly because Daedric Artifacts are ridiculous, lore-wise. Personally I'd put my money on the Dragonborn mastering Mehrunes Razor to the point of being able to simply remove the Darksign at a metaphysical level after at most 10-20 years.

A mortal as powerful as a dragonborn still needs to recuperate and eat from time to time, and theoretically if the CU keeps at it, at absolute best they could only get a couple hours of rest (if they somehow knocked out the bonfire, in which case they'd just respawn elsewhere). I suppose DB is still right in that it's a onesided fight, but given enough time, fate would tip the scales in the end, especially since the CU is extremely adaptive and cunning.

I got close to doing it when he got glitched into a mountain keeping him in place but eventually he got unglitched and flew away. @@valor1omega Not how the First Flame works. You can't just kick dirt on it and the Age of Fire ends. If you could, it'd end thousands of times over just from simple mistakes. The First Flame is more akin to Akatosh or Aetherius, in that it's more a force of nature than a physical object. You CAN snuff the First Flame if you're attuned to it like the Chosen Undead or a Firekeeper, but that doesn't actually stop anything, and the Flame of Disparity still exists. Also Vow of Silence doesn't just stop magic. It stops speech, since speech is intertwined with magic in Dark Souls.

@@matthewreynoso6904 that too actually but not what I was talking about, the main character having the capacity to do things like modding the universe at will is cannon. it gets said a few different ways in-game, usually in short references calling the world A Dream and you a Lucid Dreamer...which honestly sounds like nonsense until you include the fact that this is coming from various different entities all claiming to be Dreaming the world into existence, all of which are utterly terrified of "you" and actively working to mitigate the situation whenever something like "you" shows up. the stuff I've read personally instead of ran into secondhand is all from morrowind and oblivion so it hasn't gone too far into specifics as of yet but you seem to be running on almost the exact inverse as the creator gods, you are an Absolute Point that interacts with the world and builds out while they are all as vague and indistinct a thing as can possibly still be [A Thing] that interacts and builds inwards...in game mechanics terms the gods are existing and working from the side of the story and lore while the MC is coming at things from the game's code.

Forget Alduin for a second. Let's talk about the hypothetical heights the Dragonborn can attain within the Elder Scrolls lore that other Dragonborn before him have achieved, and the most broken relics in the entire TES series while we're at it. The powers of Chim and Amaranth, and the Elder Scrolls themselves ; Of which, the Dovahkiin carries THREE by the end of the main story and all DLC. The deep lore of TES speaks of an almighty Godhead that creates and controls everything that is and could be, including the gods themselves. By engaging in the Psijic endevor, the Dovahkin could theoretically become Godlike in power, achieving the state of existence called Chim ( Like Tiber Septim / Talos before him ), one of the first steps to achieving total Amaranth ; Becoming a Godhead yourself and creating your own omniverse. Then you have the Elder Scrolls themselves ; practically Lovecraftian in their incomprehensibility. Literally indestructible because they both do and do not exist at any given time, like Schrodinger's cat. You need to undergo a lifetime of training just to glimpse at them momentarily, and before even doing that a lengthy preparation ritual with rare components. Even then, eventually they claim your sight ( or your psyche) for looking at what's "written" on them. Let's bare in mind that the Dragonborn can look at those whenever they want and at most, their vision gets a bit blurry and they get a slight headache. But when used right the scrolls can literally tear holes through time and space and literally defeat the gods.

The dovakhin wont even need any of those to defeat the CU. he has a thuum that stops time he can literally chain thuums. in lore he'd just stop time kill CU, then as soon as he resurrects do it again. hell he could use the real fus ro dah to blast him to another continent so that the CU would have to walk for years to have another rematch. lore accurate dragonborn are literally god-like, super-speed, time manipulation, ability to summon undead armies, that's not to mention their magic. CU would not be able to land a single blow on him and honestly i'd be surprised if he couldnt just banish him since CU is undead

The chosen undead is not a demigod in the slightest, he may be mythological, But hes more akin to a Mythological Joke. The name "Chosen undead" is a mocking title given by the gods. The chosen undead is pretty damn weak all things considered, and while he did eventually suceed in linking the fire, who knows how long it took and how often he died? he simply persisted and became 'strong enough' to overcome his enemies, rather than simply being Powerful.

I just want to draw attention to the Chosen Undead using the vow of silence at the end of the battle, because it might be the most "oh shunt, they might actually win this" moment in all of death battle. Dark souls is (and was portrayed in the analysis as) a much more melee centric game than Skyrim. And we can see this in the animation: every, and I mean EVERY single melee interaction leading up to that moment has gone in CU's favor. And every time the Dragonborn has taken the advantage and killed the CU, it was with magic. Meaning that the only thing tripping up the CU (at least as far as the animation was concerned) was the Dragonborn's magic... Which the CU hard countered at the end, forcing a melee clash that the CU had been constantly winning in. Such an awesome moment.

I enjoyed that so much that I had two best moments. The nod to Ludvig with the close up moonlight greatsword shot and the moment when you realise he's going for a Hail Mary linking of the flame. I really wanted CU to win this one, despite loving both franchises but from that point I didn't care who won, that was the best ending of any DB I've seen!

I think the issue with that though is what they mentioned in the analysis portion: CU's magic is limited. If CU couldn't finish the fight within the time frame of the Vow of Silence cast(s) then eventually DB would win that "round" and the CU would respawn to try again with a different tactic. Which boils down to the reason DB won in the animation: Time & Power. Would the CU be able to come up with a way to finally beat DB's insanely OP arsenal and skills? Or would CU go hollow from realizing it was all pointless and he was just delaying the inevitable with stop gap solutions to buy time?

@@MissLilianae The reason DB won was that CU underestimated DB, they thought (quite rightly) that linking the flame was game over. They weren't aware of CHIM. Honestly, that's my only gripe about the fight, the end wasn't really accurate. I think they should have shown DB actually struggle to contain the first flame, and use any other shout that Fus-Ro-Da. It is a multiversal big bang after all.
