I'm a very sad Welshman today. Another one of my heroes has left the building. I started playing snooker in my teens back in the days when you didn't tell anyone about it. Snooker was frowned on. It was the televising of Pot Black that made the game respectable, and Mr. Reardon burst onto our screens, and the rest, as they say,... He was, without doubt, one of the very best players of all time, and he had charisma to back it up. People loved him, and he inspired many to take up the game. Diolch yn fawr, Ray bach. RIP.

Age 14 I approached Ray in the bar at the Crucible in 1978,he had just beaten Graham Miles. I asked for his autograph and he chatted to me about my snooker. Lovely man and one of my fondest memories meeting all the players of that era.

He was the first player I ever saw on the telly and he was the reason I became a lover of the game. He was by some measure the best player of his era in the days when snooker players were human and not robotic. Thanx for the memories ray complete gentleman and sportsman you will be missed.
