It was a stark difference. First time we saw a midfield with no gaps, pressing properly, not giving the opposing team any space to play. Even when the same players were involved, ETH was NEVER able to shore up the midfield like that at any point. There was no cohesion. Just gaps for counterattacks. Ugarte and Case looked awesome yesterday.

The issue with Erik was that he insisted on having a deep lying playmaker in the center of midfield (behind Bruno Fernandes) and he was never willing to budge on that. It worked during the first season because Eriksen was in good form and both him and Casemiro still had some of the legs. Once teams found us out (it started towards the end of the first season) he never really grew out of it. In the end that was his own downfall.

Did they down tools? They literally won the FA cup last season for him. Ten Hag was a playing a suicidal system that requires pacey centre backs to play a high line with Maguire and Evans who weren’t comfortable therefore dropped too deep leaving Casemiro on his own for counter attacks. Ten Hag was stubborn instead of pragmatic and that cost him the job quite rightly. Just because the players down tools for other managers doesn’t mean they did this time. The stats show the team were doing what the manager wanted but the defence we had available were not suited to the style therefore we were conceeding too many goals. Theres also the fact we’ve created a lot of chances but our finishing has been poor. I didn’t see anybody downing tools though like I did with previous managers.

Ruud not staying but he proved that making the team play well is more of a simple thing than an overly tactical endeavor that confidence amad had down the wing and all of these things are things that have always been there. 3 convincing and easy wins. probably some tactical pointers and then letting the boys do what they know how to do, none of our coaches have been bad. but they have all struggled here. sometimes its just good to have some tactical pointers and high pressing good possession and chances created but let the boys do what they know how to, if you make it annoying then maybe it wont work out. attack move the ball fast. let the players show their quality, press to recover create chances , show your quality and have fun.

Ruud needs to go immediately because it’s a clear conflict of interest. If he’s openly aiming for the manager’s job himself, he won’t be fully committed to supporting Amorim’s vision. Plus, having someone on the staff with ambitions for the top job could create tension and undermine Amorim’s authority. For a new manager to succeed, he needs a team fully aligned with his plans, not someone potentially eyeing his role.
