I flew an M20F for several years. It was a group-owned plane we bought new in 1968 for $20,000, complete with one Narco Nav-Com radio. It replaced an M20C (same cabin size as the M20E). The longer cabin provided sorely-needed leg room for the rear seat passengers.

My only critique of this particular ’F’ is that the oil door Dzus fasteners are not streamlined with the airflow. That would drive me (further) nuts. I would HAVE to re-rivet the receptacles rotated 90°. That’s just me. Yes, it’s an illness. 😊 I flew a friend’s B model from Hemet, CA to Salt Lake one night w/ no gyros. VFR, but not fun.

Then take the logarithm of the product of C & E, whlle…” Seriously, you’ve got to make that into a Stand-up routine and take it on the road!

@@skywagonuniversity5023 To address issues with the nose gear on Mooney aircraft, particularly related to the “eight-second ride” phenomenon, you can refer to Mooney Service Instruction (SI) M20-202. This Service Instruction outlines the procedure for checking and correcting the nose gear’s caster angle to avoid instability during landings. A common solution is adding a spacer to the nose gear to increase caster, which helps maintain better alignment on the ground. This procedure involves measuring the geometry of the gear and making adjustments as necessary to improve runway performance . Additionally, Don Maxwell’s article, “The Eight-Second Ride”, discusses this problem in more detail. It describes how wear in the nose gear components over time can lead to issues such as shimmying and instability on landing rollout. The article emphasizes the importance of inspecting and replacing worn parts, such as the steering horn and rod ends, to prevent the aircraft from veering off the runway . For more detailed guidance, you can find Don Maxwell’s articles archived on his website, which provides insights into common issues and their fixes for Mooney aircraft.
